Sandra agrees with Starchefs.com, as Amanda Cohen, Dirt Candy’s owner and chef, has been named the first vegetarian chef in New York City to receive the Rising Star award, an prestigious acknowledgement among chefs and other foodies.

Cohen’s restaurant patrons can get down and dirty with menu selections like Jalapeno Hush Puppies and Portobello Mousse.

—-comedian Sandra Bernhard, in a recent Tweet, doing her part to advocate animal adoption at shelters versus a kennel or department store.

North Shore Animal League is the world’s largest no-kill adoption and animal rescue shelter in the world.

The agency has placed over a million cats and dogs in loving homes since its inception in 1944.

It was also one of the first responders for pets during Hurricane Katrina, where it rescued 1,400 pets from the area.

Sandra Bernhard recently made a Tweet about the vegan breakfast sandwich she was eating.

Sandra has the bacon, tomato, but did she leave off the lettuce for a complete vegan B.L.T.?

Oh, well, maybe she’s just a B.T. girl instead.

We have to side with Sandra on the veggie bacon, though, regardless of the fixings she chooses. Lightlife not only makes faux bacon from soy protein, they also have a tempeh bacon variety.

Sandra Bernhard recently Tweeted about wanting to be vegan, but not being able to cross over to that side.

“i wish i could be a vegan but i just can’t function well on that diet believe me i get it and maybe one day but for now i do the best i can!”

Wonder what’s holding Sandra back?

Sure, veganism takes more thought and planning. It requires seeking more sources of plant protein. You may even have to pop a B Vitamin here and there. But ask any vegan who’s stuck with the lifestyle and they’ll tell you it’s totally worth it to adhere to their beliefs and/or to gain the health benefits of removing dairy and eggs from their diet.
