Russell Simmons

“Most of the girls that I date are vegetarians . . . They always leave me, but stay vegans.”

Russell Simmons to the New York Post at the Bold Native premiere he hosted. According to Peta’s president’s opinion, he’s doing his job right. Ingrid Newkirk once said vegetarians and vegans should date meat eaters…and dump them once they’ve converted to start working on another person.

The women in Russell’s life must be very eager to break away from him to spread the vegan news.

Bold Native

A Bold Native premiere will be hosted tonight by vegan businessman Russell Simmons. The fictional film depicts the story of an Animal Liberation Front member wanted by authorities and his corporate employee father who’s trying to reach his son before officers do.

Girlie Girl Army interviewed a few key figures from the film, including Denis Henry Hennelly, writer and director; Casey Suchan, producer and editor; and Joaquin Pastor who plays the main character. There is irony in the fact that Suchan used to work for McDonald’s and took home some of his wages in “Big Macs” before rethinking the ethics of his food choices.

Russell Simmons hosted an event in his home for two schools that provide environments for many African-American and Latino boys to succeed in an area where their educational outcomes aren’t always good. The event raised $250,00 for the Eagle Academy Foundation, which supports three New York City schools for the young men.

Providing the food was Acquolina Catering, which served fried tofu with cilantro sauce and Portobello burger and chocolate mousse–all vegan items.

Two of the schools boast an 85% graduate rate for the students, compared to the average of 50% for African-American and Latino men in other schools in the region.
