BabyCakes Brings Vegan Cupcakes To DisneyWorld Downtown Disney

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, November 12th, 2010 in Business, Food & Drink, Restaurants.

Downtown Disney, a shopping and dining area at Disneyworld Resorts in Florida, has severed its ties to the McDonald’s restaurant once located in the complex and replaced it with BabyCakes’ Bakery, the famous shop with headquarters in New York and Los Angeles offering vegan, gluten-free and often sugar-free cupcakes, cookies, brownies and other sweets.

According to Inside the Magic, the Disneyworld BabyCakes is located at West Side and Marketplace, near the LEGO Store and T-Rex restaurant.

BabyCakes became famous after several celebrities like Pamela Anderson gave their thumbs up to owner Erin McKenna‘s creations lacking butter, milk and eggs. McKenna has since published a cookbook with the restaurant’s most popular desserts and has appeared on television shows like Martha Stewart.

Phil Mickelson Worried About Staying Vegetarian Over Holidays

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, November 4th, 2010 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Food & Drink.

Is Phil Mickelson having second thoughts about going vegetarian to ease his symptoms of psoriatic arthritis?

From comments made to the press, it seems Mickelson is either unsure if the diet is helping his condition or he’s afraid the turkey will get the best of him for Thanksgiving.

“I’ve been doing it for just over four months and I’m just having second thoughts,” Mickelson said. “I don’t know if it really is going to make a difference or what. So we’ll see. We can talk about it in January, and I’ll have a better idea — see how the holidays go.”

Instead of getting disappointed over how his lefty is responding, Mickelson should also consider the other physical conditions a vegetarian or vegan diet can prevent–like heart disease, high blood pressure and obesity–something his multiple burger a week habit will surely bring on if he returns to that lifestyle.

Martha Stewart "Dog Fancy"

Martha Stewart "Dog Fancy"

Yes, you read right. Today’s Meatless Monday recipe was designed to be enjoyed by those with four legs. Since Martha Stewart will be the first human featured on the October 2010 cover of Dog Fancy, which includes a special section about dog adoption, we thought we’d share a pet food recipe for Martha Stewart’s Blueberry Dog Biscuits that doesn’t involve killing another animal.

Since there’s only one egg, these vegetarian biscuits can easily be made vegan. Plus, the goodness of organic blueberry, quinoa flour, oat flour and flax meal might make you tempted to reward yourself with a “treat.”

These were shared from the associate food producer from The Martha Stewart Show, which she received from her mother, who bakes them for the family’s dogs.

Martha Stewart Eco Detergent Ranks Poor With Consumer Reports

Sure, we love Martha Stewart, but will her new animal-friendly and eco-detergent get the acai stain out of our white jackets?

Tests conducted by Consumer Reports, unfortunately, say no.

After staining swatches with compounds such as wine, blood and grass, the group tested 50 different detergents for their ability to clean and remove spots in conventional and high efficient washing machines.

“In conventional top loaders, there was barely a difference between the swatches washed in Martha’s detergent and those washed in plain water. The results from high-efficiency washers were only slightly better.”
