Ginnifer Goodwin‘s story of veganism is featured on Oprah Winfrey‘s website in the Aha! Moment section where celebrities discuss memorable moments or make crucial decisions in their lives.

Goodwin says growing up she always considered the animals on her grandmother’s farm as family

But her Aha! moment came when she realized over breakfast she could no longer consume those animals.

“For most of my life I naively lived on cheeseburgers, macaroni and cheese, and chicken nuggets; a family dinner always meant steak. Then one day a year and a half ago, it hit me over the head while I was making a hearty breakfast that it wasn’t, in the grand scheme of earthly things, intended for me. What would happen to my body, to my soul, if I did not consume an animal or anything taken from an animal? So I educated myself. I relinquished the safety blanket of my ignorance.”

Prada Book Launch Cocktail at Prada Beverly Hills

Vegetarians are just like most other human beings, meaning that around the Holidays they will stuff themselves so much, you’d think a farmer was planning to make foie gras out of them.

InStyle magazine asked Ginnifer Goodwin what her Holiday “cheat” was and Ginnifer responded, “I don’t eat animal products of any kind, but I have a big problem with vegan macaroni and cheese.”

Who wouldn’t have a problem controlling themselves with a dairy free version of one of the biggest comfort foods on the planet?

Most homemade vegan mac and cheese will contain nutritional yeast, which not only adds that “cheesy” color, but brings out a rich and creamy taste.

This holiday season, try out this recipe from vegweb.com, Mama Koala’s Vegan Mac and “Cheese.”

Because cheating on dairy is always forgiven.

Ginnifer Goodwin Funny Farm Sanctuary PSA Outtakes (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, November 24th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Videos.

Ginnifer Goodwin is starring in Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt-A-Turkey PSA this year and it took more than one take to get a decent 30 second commercial.

Here are some hilarious Farm “bloopers” with Ginnifer and her cow and turkey co-stars.

“A little bit more ladylike,” Ginnifer advises as a turkey eats apples from a bowl.

Then there’s the cow who takes a break to “lick its ball.”

The DVD series of these would sell more than Girls Gone Wild.

A Single Man premiere held in Los Angeles

Ginnifer Goodwin has confirmed her Thanksgiving meal this year will be a Tofurky.

No surprise, considering she’s the spokesperson for Farm Sanctuary’s Adopt-A-Turkey program.

About her recent visit to the Watkins Glen, New York sanctuary, Ginnifer said, “I grew fairly attached to a turkey named Magnolia. And there’s a badass goat who likes to play good-natured butting-heads games with humans. I dug her.’’

Every veg needs a badass goat when trying to explain to the most bullheaded meat eater why humans aren’t necessarily designed to eat animals.

Don’t forget you can have your own badass turkey for only $25 through the Farm Sanctuary Adopt-A-Turkey program.

Gobble, gobble, gobble have you found the perfect tofu turkey recipe yet?

Ginnifer Goodwin has teamed up with Farm Sanctuary to launch their Adopt-a-Turkey program.

The Big Love star is participating in the program that was designed to end the practice of commercially raised turkeys that are slaughtered in masses annually.

About 45 million turkeys are slaughtered in the U.S. for Thanksgiving each year, according to the Farm Sanctuary website.

“After spending time with the rescued turkeys at Farm Sanctuary’s shelter and seeing how similar they are to my furry companion animals at home, I knew I needed to do everything in my power to protect these friendly and curious birds from the daily pain and suffering they endure on factory farms,” said Goodwin.

“With so many delicious, cruelty-free Thanksgiving dishes available, there is no reason why any living being should be treated like an unfeeling commodity. I encourage everyone to start a new, compassionate Thanksgiving tradition this year and Adopt-A-Turkey, rather than eat one.”

For a one time donation of $25, you can adopt a turkey living at Farm Sanctuary and receive an adoption certificate in your name or donate sponsorships as gifts to families and friends.
