Barack’s Daughter Sasha Obama Bringing Veggies To School

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, January 7th, 2009 in Children, Food & Drink, Politicians.

US President-elect Barack Obama enjoys shave ice with friends and family in Hawaii

He wanted more vegetables for the children and now it looks like his daughter will be helping to carry out his wish for the entire Washington D.C. area.

Sasha Obama, Barack’s youngest daughter, is attending Sidwell Friends School in D.C. where part of the children’s education is to teach them about helping those less fortunate.

One such program is making soup for Martha’s Table, which according to their website, is designed to “help at-risk children, youth, families and individuals in our community improve their lives by providing educational programs, food, clothing, and enrichment opportunities.”

Sasha will be bringing fresh veggies to school which will be used to make soup that will be delivered to Martha’s Table.

From the Sidwell Friends website:

Each Wednesday, children bring a vegetable from home as their contribution to the makings of a 50 lb. pot of soup. Classes take turns collecting and cutting the vegetables, which are then delivered to Martha’s Table by a parent volunteer. The children are reminded to bring their Wednesday vegetable by painting a magnetic tile to take home to place on their refrigerators.

Pamela Anderson’s Christmas Gift To Bush, Barack Obama

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, December 29th, 2008 in Actresses.

Pamela Anderson Book Signing

Who knew Pamela Anderson was a bookworm? She’s loves one book so much, she told Contact Music she was giving two copies of it away-one to President Bush and another to his soon to be successor Barack Obama.

One Can Make a Difference, a collection of celebrity written essays compiled by PETA’s President Ingrid Newkirk, has touched Pammie so much, she’s sure it will make a great addition to the Presidential libraries.

“I’m sending a copy of the book to the Obamas and, what the hell, to Mr. Bush, too, since he’ll need ways to pass the time, because it is exactly the theme for our next White House: one can make a difference!” she said.

One Can Make a Difference contains essays written by Russell Simmons, Willie Nelson, and Oliver Stone to name a few. Meant to be inspirational, it’s far from hokey and contrived, according to Anderson’s review.

“It’s a collection of 50 inspirational essays – not boring ‘strive to be better’ sayings, but real-life stories that are truly amazing.”

Oprah Winfrey Demands Obama Share Person Of The Year Love

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, December 20th, 2008 in Actresses, TV Hosts.

Oprah Winfrey Joins Obama On Campaign Trail

Some have accused Oprah Winfrey of being an attention fiend.

And she does push herself in the spotlight frequently, from her support to certain political candidates to letting everyone know what book she’s cuddling up with instead of Stedman for the week. She has her face on the cover of every one of her magazines, for goodness sake.

But attention fiends can be good, especially if they’re garnishing it for the right reasons. And that’s exactly why the U.S. division of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has chosen her as Person of the Year 2008.

She’s used her power to draw attention to a variety of animal abuse. After following a plea on a billboard in Chicago to do a show on puppy mills, she aired an episode that featured undercover footage of horrible conditions at one located in Pennsylvania. Her audience also got to see the torture that chickens, pigs, and veal calves endure in conventional factory farms.

Earlier this year in April, she dedicated an episode of her show to her late cocker spaniel.

Let’s not forget, she went vegan for 21 days and told the world about it!

Hats off to Oprah. Good thing Time Magazine’s Person of The Year,  Barack Obama, is a slender man. He definitely needs to make room for some other great people in the spotlight.

Pamela Anderson’s Letter To Obama Advocates Vegetarianism

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, November 20th, 2008 in Actresses.

Pamela Anderson gives press conference in Moscow

Now that Obama has been elected, everyone has their ideas for what he should be doing during his term, including celebrities.

Pamela Anderson took it upon herself to write a letter to Obama asking him to promote vegetarianism and end animal testing, among other things.

“Promote vegetarianism-which would help end world hunger- crack down on factory farming that is killing the environment and slaughtering so many animals- wastefully and carelessly and its unhealthy/and its just impractical- to think this is monitored/regulated effectively…”

“Stop all these garbage, wasteful and ineffective ,ancient animal tests (from 80 years ago?)- create a REAL working dedicated and active group of people assigned to this issue- science is suppose to be progressive?”

“We need to get with it- update like Europe has its an embarrassment and nobody wishes this senseless cruelty to go on.”

Obama’s Got Beef With Beets, Overpriced Arugula

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, November 14th, 2008 in Food & Drink, Politicians.

Barack Obama Campaigns Throughout Oregon Ahead Of State's Primary

George W. Bush’s father, the first presidential Bush, hated broccoli. Barack Obama dislikes the tastes of beets. It appears the right and the left aren’t too different when it comes to having vegetable pet peeves.

Obama hates beets and makes it a policy to “always avoid eating them.”

Earlier on the campaign trail he shared a similar view with Erykah Badu, mentioning that Whole Foods was an expensive place to buy produce, arugula in particular.

Although good for you, there’s no doubt some vegetables taste so bad you don’t want to touch them with a 10 foot carrot pole. Which vegetables would you make it a policy to abolish from the White House if you were office?

Chelsea Clinton Sighting In NYC

President-elect Barack Obama and the fam are packing their things and loading it into the U-Haul for the big move to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

OK, maybe they’re not taking the U-Haul, but rather a more fancy presidentialy mover. When they arrive, the Mrs. may be happy she no longer has to do the cooking as White House Chefs take over.

Scheib, the former chef for Bushes and Clintons, published a book White House Chef: Eleven Years, Two Presidents, One Kitchen, last year and it’s filled with recipes he made for the first families, including one of Chelsea Clinton’s favorites, Thai-Spiced Sweet Potato Soup With Gingered Bok Choy.

Chelsea learned to cook vegan while in the White House, receiving a special certificate for her efforts. In addition to the sweet potato soup, the vegetarian Clinton likes grilled onions in the summertime.

Even Vegan Moby Thinks You Sometimes Have To Break An Egg

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, August 9th, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers, Politicians.

Duran Duran Celebrates

Dear Senator Obama…

“This might be a strange analogy for a vegan to use, but if you want to make an omelet
you have to break a couple of eggs. Start breaking some eggs.”

Vegan Moby decided to write a letter to Senator Obama in the Huffington Post to urge him to fight even harder for an upcoming presidential election victory. His less than warm feelings for McCain are shown by attacking his knowledge of both politics and geography:

“Dear senator Obama: FIGHT BACK. You’re battling a dimwit who doesn’t know the difference between Sunni and Shi’ite, who still refers to countries that ceased to exist in 1993(Czechoslovakia), and who believes that Iraq and Pakistan share a border.”

He’s also a little less than pleased at how the recent Democrats have challenged the G.O.P:

“In 2000 they slandered Al Gore as saying he invented the internet and was an elitist. And he fought back how? Oh, that’s right, he didn’t. And in 2004 they slandered John Kerry by questioning his military service. And he fought back how? Oh, that’s right, he didn’t. And now they’re slandering Obama in a hundred insidious and incorrect ways. And he’s fighting back how? Oh, that’s right, he isn’t.”

Judging from Moby’s criticism, Obama may have to start throwing a few punches to at least make the junior varsity team.
