Mayor Bloomberg’s Favorite Vegetable Is… from NYDN Brawl for the Hall on Vimeo.

New York city’s mayor Michael Bloomberg was recently out promoting vegetable gardens in schools.

He also promoted iceberg lettuce, which really shouldn’t have a PR staff, considering it’s got half of all the good vitamins and nutrients like Vitamin C, folate and beta carotene than other lettuces like romaine.

“It may not be fashionable, but it’s real American,” Bloomberg said of his lettuce preference.

Thankfully, with the help of Rachael Ray‘s Yum-o! organization, NYC students will get to plant more than iceberg lettuce in their school yards.

Yum-o! helps students either build a garden or connect to an already existing garden, as well as offer cooking and nutrition classes.

Of course, Bloomberg has other vegetables he likes.

The Stupid for Movies guys enjoy food on the show, and when creator Mike Rotman is expected to eat, there’s always going to be something meatless to review.

“We have a different food each week,” explained Rotman to Tubefilter. “Jaime (Fox, head writer on Kevin Pollak’s Chat Show) brought pizza this week. I’ve made chili, we’ve done pasta. I’m vegetarian, so we stay vegetarian.”

Rotman revealed the secret to keeping his chili veggie is with Morningstar Farms Veggie Crumbles.

What’s your opinion on the substitute for ground beef?

Thumbs up or thumbs down?

Buy it or burn it?

Kelis MTV Video About Fur Hat And Where To Get Your Fake One

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, May 15th, 2010 in Fashion, Female Singers, Fur, Videos.

Kelis sounds off on her PETA feud about that famous fur hat in this MTV video.

She says she thinks it was strange she got a letter from them, considering she’s worn “way more” fur than what she was wearing when the controversy ignited.

Kelis justifies her fashion choice with the fact the weather was “freezing” and she loves the hat.

Right.

Perfectly good excuses to buy something killed for the sake of vanity purposes.

Avoid the Kelis fur pas and opt for a faux fur hat instead.

Watch for Kelis’ excuses around minute 4:00.

Medium “Dead Meat” Episode Gets Invaded By Live Pigs (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, May 14th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Film & TV, Videos.

Medium airs tonight at 8PM on CBS guest starring several live pigs.

The episode, Dead Meat, has Patricia Arquette‘s character Allison solving the mystery of a missing animal rights activist and she uses the pigs to get clues about the disappearance.

Make no doubt about it, these actors are some of the brightest on the big screen.

“The pigs worked out really well and a lot of people don’t realize how smart pigs really are,” Greg Wolf, prop master, says in the video.

Researchers have estimated their intelligence to be at least that of a three year old and scientists have also found pigs have passed the mirror self-recognition test, where they understand what a reflection is and use it to check out their environment and find food.

Pigs like mirrors too, huh?

Guess they’re not that different from any other actor in Hollywood.

John Joseph, punk rocker and author of Evolution of a Cro Magnon and his latest book, Meat is for Pussies, recently sat down for a video interview on physical and spiritual health, food and his book set for release this month.

Diet may go a long way towards your spiritual health, and Joseph insists that if you’re still consuming cheeseburgers to reward yourself after a yoga workout, you might succeed in the arm balance but you’ll never achieve real peace.

“You see people going to raw foods restaurants with leather jackets and fur and all kinds of crap. It becomes another form of vanity. If you’re doing yoga and you’re doing all this stuff and you’re going and eating meat, it’s like trying to light a fire but you’re throwing water on it. You’re never going to progress in your spiritual practice when you’re consuming animals that have been tortured and butchered. It’s just not possible.”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, May 13th, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues, Videos.

Glee star Jane Lynch has recorded a new PSA for PETA about spaying and neutering your pets.

The aggressive cheerleading coach Sue Sylvester is doing a cheer for the millions of animals in shelters waiting for a home.

“The good folks at PETA asked me to say a few words about the importance of good posture and personal hygiene–but I don’t want to talk about that,” says the 2010 Golden Globe award nominee for Best Supporting Actress. “I want to talk about the 4 million dogs and cats who are euthanized every year because there aren’t enough homes for all of them.”

Lynch has one more tip at the end.

RANT 071: Control Freak Vegetarian Bitch

Project Rant | MySpace Video

Project Rant features actors reenacting complaints from the anonymous “rants and raves” placed on Craig’s List.

Control Freak Vegetarian Bitch was posted by someone who didn’t like his or her dinner date asking the manager if the bun for the veggie burger had dairy in it.

Or if the beans could be ordered without butter.

Or if the portobello mushroom cap was grilled on the same grill with meat.

“You make it impossible for me to enjoy myself at a restaurant. I know why you do this. You want to have some small bit of power so you can wield it like some sort of fu*king flag. I think this is the real reason why you are a vegetarian. You like bullying the wait staff into listing the ingredients of every item and how each one is prepared.”

“It’s so embarrassing to go out to eat with you because I know you’ll pull this sh*t.”

Well, well.

It’s so obvious this was written after a fight or breakup with the vegetarian significant other.

There’s more and it just gets nastier in the above video.
