Kelis Reply To PETA On Fur

Written by Vegetarian Star on January 14th, 2010 in Female Singers, Fur.

Kelis dresses appropriately for the freezing London weather as she heads to her album launch party

Kelis was a recent target of the animal rights group, People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) for wearing fur and the singer is taking on a Kid Rock attitude in her reply.

Kelis is proudly standing by her liking of fur, meat and more.

A few bits from the blog:

“There is no humane way to kill anything, let me start there. It’s unfortunate but it’s part of life. With that being said, I would eat pterodactyl if you found some and you told me it was meaty and delicious.”

She even takes a strike at PETA’s president, Ingrid Newkirk:

“I found out that the founder Ingrid Newkirk is completely batty. I had a feeling but she far exceeded my expectations. I mean certifiably insane! Lol this chicks will is nuts, google it – it’s a riot!”

Kelis doesn’t think faux fur will feel the same as the real dead animal:

“I feel very strongly about a lot of things such as the sweatshops that spin cotton and the blood on their hands. Btw it’s not just the look of fur. It’s warm as hell and feels glorious, ever rubbed faux fur on your body? Nothing luxurious about that. Then the letter proceeded to name artist and designers who don’t wear real fur. Great! More for me! I don’t judge them, don’t judge me.”

Has this chick even tried wearing a fake before (not counting the dozens of weaves on her head)?

    Hate her. Tacky and rude.

Ugh I just puked in my mouth..

  3. Black Panthers 2010 Says:

Lets not turn the problem you have with her wearing fur into racism! First and foremost Kelis hardly ever wears a weave and its uber offensive that because she is black you assume she wears a weave! That comment would not be made if this was Brittany Spears, Miley Cyrus, or any other white celebrity. Those two celebs alone wear more weave in a month than Kelis wears in a year! I’m all for animal rights that is why I am a vegan, but dont forget that there are other important human rights too! That comment is disgusting and whosoever wrote it should lock themselves in a closet forever! Yeah for animal rights!!!! BOOO FOR RACISM!!!

  4. BitchBooBYE Says:

LMFAO@Kelis wearing weave. Wrong black celeb. Kelis is all natural racist cunts.

Kelis is a every bad word I can think of, ignorant and selfish. I hope she dies after working in a sweat shop till her fingers fall off in her next life.

  7. Boots Says:

Oh, I’ll judge, considering her statement is so ridiculously uneducated, entitled, and ignorant.

Do you honestly think, Kelis, that only people feel pain and suffering? Do you realize that mammals have LIMBIC brains; they feel love and hurt as we do? That humans are genetically similar to other animals? That people are just as much an animal as any other animals on the planet?

I just love her rich slavery statement, too. Honey, other people on the planet have done through suffering, as well; the Irish, Asians, Native Americans, Italians, Jews, Zoroastrians, etc. My God, expand your way of thinking and GET OVER YOURSELF.

While you’re waiting for that huge check from NAS (good luck with that, hon), buy yourself a reality check and the book, “Animal Liberation” written by Peter Singer. That is, if you can actually READ.

    Idiot.

  8. jean Says:

I’m all for the animal rights and saving them from our evil abuse etc. But Singer’s book “Animal Liberation” is so full of holes and bad thinking that he should be ashamed to call himself a philosopher (A famous one at that!) We should not be using it as a front for our cause. Once the animal torturers get their teeth into it they can rip it tpo shreds then say to us “I told you so”

  9. Macy Says:

As an African-American vegan reading this made me very angry. I totally agree with the fact that it’s disgusting to wear animals and use them for fur and the fact that Kelis thinks that it’s ok is wrong, but the statement about weaves was racist and extremally offensive. Kelis doesn’t wear weaves and its disgusting that you apparently think that all African-American females do. I won’t be coming to this site anymore because it is racist, i have never heard those comments made about the white female celibrities that you find offensive for wearing fur or other unethical practices but just because she’s a black female you think this is ok. I think that your black readers deserve an apology because that statement was very uncalled for.

i’m gonna have to wonder about all of the people crying racism here. kelis DOES wear weaves, it’s documented all over the internets. so maybe the author wasn’t assuming that all african-americans wear weaves, maybe he or she did a little bit of research and came up with a joke that while kinda stupid was hardly racist.

  11. Lina Says:

Looks like the kind, “compassionate” animal lovers are filled with venomous for members of their own species who dare to wear fur.

  12. Lina Says:

Mmmm…looks like the “kindly, compassionate, evolved, caring” animal-lovers are filled with venomous hatred, racism, and other base emotions towards humans whose perspective on life is not the same as theirs. Your kindly love for animals does not necessarily transfer to kindly love or even tolerance for members of your own species. In general, you are the folks who hope to create a kinder, gentler, more just world through their “educating” the public towards veganism??!!! Stop decieving yourselves, you immature, racist morons. Your beliefs, taboos (any animal product), and prophets (Peter Singer, as batsh** crazy as Newkirk, herself, and others) point to nothing more than another nutty religious cult seeking money from childish, clueless misanthropes whose mental development ceased at the age of eight! As you can guess, I have NO PROBLEM with people who wear fur, but I despise racists and rabid fur- haters both as wasted life.

As always, these debates become a flashpoint for other issues and a place to voice unrelated opinions, pushing us all further apart and less likely to ever understand each others’ views. I don’t agree with Kelis’s standpoint on wearing fur and, as a result, she won’t be making any money out of me anymore. But why start slamming her hair, etc? Stick to the real issue.
