Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 28th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Videos.

One of CNN’s ireporters caught up with several celebrities at PETA’s 30th anniversary gala to ask how they give animals a voice.

Vegetarians like Alec Baldwin, Georges Laraque and James Cromwell had wonderful things to say about abstaining from animal products.

Alec Baldwin said he’d like for “people to eat less animals if they can…I would love to see people hunt less, wear no fur and eat less animals.”

Georges Laraque assured everyone going vegan wouldn’t whittle them down to skin and bones, having them weighing “100 pounds wet,” and used himself as an example.

Watch to hear James Cromwell‘s powerful message telling people to consider the environmental impact and other issues when continuing to eat meat.

You’ve heard it from Bill Clinton himself first. Now, the doctors behind his motivation for following almost a completely vegan diet are talking to CNN’s Wolf Blitzer on how more people should adopt the plan that can prevent and reverse heart disease.

Dr. Dean Ornish has been Clinton’s physician consultant since 1993 and Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn is the author of Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease and the father of the Texas firefighter Rip Esselstyn who authored The Engine 2 Diet and convinced his fellow firemen at the station to eat veg to improve their health.

Dr. Esselstyn says, “When you do what President Clinton has done, when you completely try to remove any foods that are going to injure your vessel, the body has this remarkable capacity to begin to heal itself. And I’m afraid that as a medical profession we perhaps have fallen down and really emphasized too much the drugs and the procedures and the operations which really treat the symptoms. They do not treat the causes of these illnesses.”

The causes of these illnesses, Esselstyn insists, in continuing to eat “anything with a mother, anything with face.”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, September 24th, 2010 in Actors, Food & Drink, Videos.

Don’t let the baby face fool you. Jesse Eisenberg would have thrown a few punches in the name of vegetarianism if some paranoid, unsocial suspecting vegetarian would’ve kept up his attitude about being asked questions about the meatless lifestyle.

The actor who plays Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Network said he almost got into a fight with someone on the subway just because the guy said vegetariansim was a personal question.

“I got in a fight with somebody on the subway once because I asked if they were a vegetarian, and he said that was too personal, and I got angry,” Eisenberg told Popeater.

Betty White has a long history of involvement with animal organizations, almost as long as her acting career. And recently, the last standing Golden Girl has been named chairwoman of the Greater Los Angeles Zoo Association.

A press release on the organization’s web site details White’s involvement with GLAZA, which spans 46 years, serving as a trustee and member of the commission.

“Betty’s many exceptional qualities make her an ideal leader for GLAZA,” said GLAZA President Connie Morgan. “Her deep understanding and passion and for the Los Angeles Zoo, her close relationship with its animals and Zoo and GLAZA people, her advocacy in general for animals that share our earth, and her sharp business sense blend perfectly to guide our organization, particularly as GLAZA works toward a public-private partnership with the City of Los Angeles in order to make the Zoo’s operation more financially independent.”

Modern Family star Sarah Hyland shares her thoughts with Peta2 on animal testing, dissection and adoption.

“I feel like companies that still test on animals should either be shut-down or all just arrested because there are companies that don’t test on animals. If there’s one company that doesn’t do it and 5 that do, I don’t understand why those 5 can’t follow the same path as that one.”

The American Anti-Vivisection Society has a page that lists companies that are cruelty-free, where you may look up some popular brands you may use, such as Burt’s Bees, Giovanni Cosmetics and Alba Botanica.

Bill Clinton doesn’t do dairy, but he enjoys drinking almond milk. This and other details were revealed to Wolf Blitzer on CNN as Clinton explained how he’s participating in a study to determine if individuals can reverse their heart disease damage by eating vegan. A little bonus for Bill is that his body is looking as sleek as it did in his high school yearbook.

“I live on beans, legumes, vegetables, fruit,” Clinton said. “I drink a protein supplement every morning. No dairy. I drink almond milk mixed in with fruit and a protein powder. So I get the protein for the day when I start the day out. And it changed my whole metabolism and I lost 24 pounds. I got back to basically what I weighed in high school.”

Bill isn’t quite a vegan, as he still eats fish occasionally.

TLC’s Freaky Eaters features Dr. Dow and JJ Virgin coming to the intervention of people with some strange and dangerous eating compulsions. There’s a young lady who needs 30 cans of cola a day. The cheeseburger addict. And tonight at 7PM, there’s Daniel, a young man who is compelled to eat raw meat.

Listening to Daniel describe this obsession with phrases like “one of those quiet things where you do it on your own” and “this is nice.”, one could almost make frat boy jokes about the pastime that didn’t start until he left the confines of his parents’ home.

However, eating raw meat is no joke and Daniel is putting himself at risk for consuming harmful bacteria and becoming ill with infections like Trichinellosis, also called trichinosis, which result in eating uncooked meat. Not that the stuff’s any healthier cooked…

From TLC:

“Using intense nutritional and behavioral therapy, they attempt to convince Daniel to give up his life-threatening obsession before it’s too late.”

A clip from a man who eats approximately 1,400 cheeseburgers a year is below.

Bob Harper Exclusive Interview With Farm Sanctuary (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010 in Animal Issues, Food & Drink, Reality TV, Videos.

Bob Harper is the 2010 spokesperson for Farm Sanctuary’s Walk for Animals, which spans across 78 cities in the U.S. and even includes a virtual “no walk” walk. The Biggest Loser coach’s popularity has certainly helped Farm Sanctuary’s cause, as well as draw attention to the welfare of farm animals and the vegetarian and vegan lifestyle. In an exclusive interview with Farm Sanctuary, Harper discusses how growing up on a cattle farm made cows his favorite farm animal, his views on modern farming and how going vegan has changed his life.

Growing Up On A Cattle Farm In Tennessee:
“I have to tell you that because I grew up on this cattle farm it was just the way of life then. On the farm I grew up on the cows were treated relatively respectfully. They had pastures, they lived a good quality of life, of course until their death. To me there was more compassion back then because now … the thing that really pains me … is that these factory farms are just treating these animals like they’re light fixtures, like they’re not real and don’t have blood running through them. It’s just shocking to me.”
