Take It Off Baby! Cloris Leachman Strips Down To Her Lettuce

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, January 11th, 2009 in Actresses, Reality TV.

Thalians 53rd Anniversary Ball - Arrivals

Cloris “Lettuce Leaves” Leachman, the 52 year old vegetarian actress and Dancing With The Stars Contestant, really gets into her greens.

Like Alyssa Milano, Cloris stripped bare-only to cover back up again with a blended red cabbage, beet, and iceberg lettuce dress for the “Let Vegetarianism Grow on You” campaign.

And she gets to drink a margarita while doing so!

“It feels comfortable and fits me too,” she told Access Hollywood. “You realize you feel wonderful…fresh, new, healthy. And you didn’t have to kill any animals to feel this way.”

She said that once you find out about something, you want to tell everyone about it. She feels people still “don’t know” the benefits of vegetarianism and they’re encouraged to eat meat by the meat industries and advertising.

Cloris has two strip shows, so be sure to watch Video 1 and Video 2.

After Ellen

On a recent Top Chef Elimination Challenge, the chefs had it easy-serve up whatever you want that best showcases your talent.

Contestant Carla really wanted to serve a vegetarian dish, but thought not having a protein would make her lose points.

Maybe it’s time for Carla to take a basic nutrition course as well as cooking classes. Although the judges might not be tofu and tempeh fans, there are plenty of plant based proteins that would have made her dish shine like beans, lentils, or whole grain pasta. If vegan was good enough for the Foo Fighters, it most certainly would have impressed the judges that day.

But she settled for tossing scallops into a mint risotto.

This was double elimination night, so Carla, Melissa, and Eugene were put on the front line and Carla was rescued for another week. Saved by the scallop? Nah, she could have shined otherwise.

Dennis Rodman Would Rather Be Fired Than Wear Mink

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, January 10th, 2009 in Athletes-Games-Sports, Business, Fur, Reality TV.

rodmanthink-72

A few years ago, Dennis Rodman wasn’t even wearing a jersey when he agreed to do an anti-fur ad for PETA.

So why are we talking about a retired basketball player famous for dressing in bridal gowns who got naked over three years ago? Because he’s back in the limelight as one of the contestants on Donald Trump’s Celebrity Apprentice.

Rodman, along with other celebs like Tom Green and recently fur shunning Khloe Kardashian, will have the pleasurable experience of being humiliated by the world’s greatest real estate investor who also holds the title for the World’s Worst Hairdo.

Rodman has already broken boundaries outside of the boardroom. He was the first man that had enough balls to get naked and almost show his…well you know.

There are rumors that he sometimes followed a vegetarian diet, but it’s definitely been confirmed he detests the use of fur in fashion.

According to Contact Music, Rodman said, “furriers have pushed free furs” on him over the years, and he’s always refused. He even said that he was always embarrassed when an ex-wife wore furs.

With a set of ethics like those, there’s no reason why the former NBA bad boy shouldn’t be “hired.”

Dancing With The Stars Cloris Leachman Shakin’ Her Veg Thing

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 9th, 2009 in Actresses, Reality TV.

2009 Pasadena Tournament Of Roses Grand Marshal Revealed

Dancing With The Stars contestant Cloris Leachman was an 82 year old who could strut, stride, and perform sexy moves with men young enough to be her great grandsons (she happens to actually be a great grandmother, by the way).

When viewers at home saw her on their televisions last season, they probably choked on their popcorn. But Cloris is about to give the recently passed 111 year old Californian a run for her money in longevity and she’s using the same weapon: a vegetarian diet.

Cloris has been a vegetarian for 50 years.

She said you “have to decide” to be young, and it appears she took the right path leading to the fountain of youth.  She’s no stranger to the screen, starring in shows such as “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.”

She recently served as the grand marshal of the 2009 Tournament of Roses Parade.

Young at heart, vegetarian, and she’s also scored lip smacks with some very younger men. Take a look at the cougar shots.

Worst Veggie Stories Of 2008

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 31st, 2008 in Chefs, Male Musicians, Male Singers, Politicians, Reality TV.

If Newton’s 3rd Law applies to news, then if we bring you the Best Of Veggie 2008, ultimately, we have to discuss the worst. And they’re really bad. But in order of fairness, here goes…

#5: Andre 3000 Is Cheap-After bending over backwards to get him a vegan meal prepared, Andre’s waiter didn’t even get tipped! The carnis already say we’re weird and demanding. Now they’re gonna call us cheap. Thanks Andre.

#4:Amazing Race Sheep Butt Eating Incident-Vegetarian Terence Gerchberg was athletic, smart, and a promising part of the duo Terence and Sarah on Amazing Race this past season. So sad that he got taken out by sheep ass.

#3: Paula Deen’s Ham Delivery-25,000 pounds of pork nastiness delivered in the name of charity. At least we got Heather Mills donating veggie burgers to balance off this Karma.

#2: Gordon Ramsay Vegetarian Children Nightmare-The celebrity chef said his worst fear is one of his children coming home and telling him he or she is a vegetarian. In fact, this would cause Ramsay so much distress, he said he would promptly put them on a fence and electrocute them. Nice.

#1: Sarah Palin Thanksgiving Turkey Slaughter-Palin gave the meaning of “know where your food is coming from” a whole different twist as she did an interview with turkeys getting killed just over her shoulder. Wonder how many converted (to vegetarianism) after seeing this, uh, miracle?

Whale Wars Captain Paul Watson Says We Eat Like Vultures

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, December 27th, 2008 in Misc Artists and Performers, Reality TV.

2008 Summer TCA Tour - Day 3

Captain Paul Watson is the founder of the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society and the main man at the helm of the Steve Irwin boat on the Animal Planet series Whale Wars, a reality show where the crew (which includes actress Daryl Hannah this season) sails the Southern Ocean, attempting to stop Japanese ships from hunting whales.

In an interview with Jason Miller on The Peoples Voice, Watson challenges the common notion that humans are true carnivores because we don’t eat our prey raw.

JM: As a vegan, you have characterized those who continue the practice of eating animal flesh as necrovores (rather than the “carnivores” many proudly claim to be). Please elaborate upon this and tell us what you think it will take to raise humanity’s moral consciousness to the point that a majority of people end their cruel and unnecessary consumption of meat.

Captain Paul Watson: Humans do not eat like carnivores. Carnivores bring down living prey and eat it raw and most predators target the soft organs leaving much of the muscle for scavengers. Humans eat dead flesh and rarely eat the organs, preferring the muscle tissue. Most of the beef that people eat has been dead for months and in many cases for years. The meat is disguised with bleach and dyes in many cases to hide the decay and the fact that the flesh is putrid. We are closer in our eating habits to vultures and jackals than wolves and lions.

Read the rest of the interview with Captain Watson and learn about a statue the Dalai Lama gave him and how he thinks our current political and economic systems go against the basic laws of ecology.

Khloe Kardashian Shows Throwing Red Paint On People Works

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, December 19th, 2008 in Fashion, Fur, Reality TV.

Khloe Kardashian Unveils Her PETA

Since Khloe Kardashian showed off her voluptuous figure in defense of the animals, she’s taken some heat from some in the media posting old pictures of her in her fur wearing days. Quick to respond, she wrote on her blog:

“As some of you might have seen today, there are several people who have taken to the web calling me a hypocrite and posting photos of me wearing fur.”

“The reason PETA approached me initially is because in my past I did wear fur and they wanted to educate me on the brutal ways in which animals are skinned for their pelts. After watching their video once, I was so horrified that I immediately swore off fur…”

“I have changed my ways and I hope that many other people will as well.”

Score one for PETA, zero for Kid Rock, who thinks all PETA does is throw paint on “little Hollywood actresses that can’t defend themselves.” We’re pretty sure Khloe got a nice letter from PETA, rather than paint on her coat, though.
