Ziggy Marley

Ziggy Marley is set to perform at the Wellness & World Music Festival in Desert Hot Springs, California on October 9-10. The festival is meant to bring together the subjects of health, sustainable living and world music.

According to My Desert, promoters of the event are expecting roughly 10,000 people to attend each day and a portion of the proceeds will go towards the Desert Hot Springs Boys and Girls Club in Coachella Valley.

Marley, a yoga enthusiast and vegetarian, fits well with the line of scheduled guest appearances of yoga trainers and wellness authors such as Rodney Yee, Colleen Saidman Yee and Dr. Steven Gundry.

Paul McCartney has given his support to an anti-whaling campaign that urges the Norwegian government not to lift a 25 year ban on commercial whaling.

McCartney said, “It’s time to end the cruel slaughter of whales and leave these magnificent creatures alone. In the 21st century how can we even contemplate killing whales – or any animal – in such barbaric ways? Governments should act on their responsibilities and protect these beautiful creatures.”

Prince is featured as the cover boy for the July issue of Ebony and the crew had the pleasure of eating a four course vegan meal with the musician during the 12 hours they spent with him at Paisley Park in Chanhassen.

He’s set to receive the BET Lifetime achievement award on June 27, plus he was one of Time magazine’s 100 Most Influential People for 2010 and was once voted PETA’s Sexiest Vegetarian in 2006.

McCartney was said to have brought along his veggie catering staff, which cooked up meals for him and the crew using local ingredients.

The Isle of Wight Festival was awarded The Greener Festival Award in 2009, and this year encouraged its fans to use public transportation, bike or carpool to the festivities.

Moby interviews with KCRW on his co-edited book Gristle, veganism and zoonotic diseases.

“Almost every big global pandemic starts with confined animal production,” he said.

A more recent example of this is swine flu–the disease used to make its way through pigs on farms before it got smarter and infected humans.

The musician also touches on the benefits of a plant based diet for athletes, stating that carbohydrates and protein are easier to use than those found in meat.

Moby’s interview starts at minute 22:14, but there are several clips during this program that are relevant to vegetarians, including a segment on school lunches, polenta and a restaurant that only serves mac and cheese.
