If the thought of having to cook breakfast for your in-laws is scarier than being forced to sit in a smelly steakhouse all day long, maybe a recipe making basic blueberry scones will ease the anxiety.

One Frugal Foodie had the task of doing so, and created Blueberry Scones, taken from Erin McKenna’s BabyCakes Cookbook.

Unlike most of the recipes from McKenna’s cookbook, the Blueberry Scones are not gluten-free, but still created with McKenna’s signature ingredients used in her bakeries in NYC and LA like coconut oil and agave nector.

“Meat Is For Pussies”–Why John Joseph Chose The “P” Word

"Meat is for Pussies" John Joseph

So much discussion has been generated by John Joseph‘s latest book, Meat Is For Pussies, on his choice of words for the title, especially in the form of some females taking offense.

Not looking to offend at all, perhaps Joseph’s message would have been clearer if he used the term “pussy-dependent,” (note: new category to be added to the DSM in the future)

Joseph said to Punk News, “The title might suggest that I am being judgmental, but what the title is really saying is that if you continue to live the lifestyle that most Americans are living, then that lifestyle will turn you into a pussy dependent on prescription drug companies. Pharmaceutical companies and food companies look at you as revenue from when you live to when you die. They want you to get sick. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.”

Joseph is also working on a cookbook for later release. Might we suggest the title, “Cooking Meat is for the Pussy Whipped?”

Dennis Kucinich

Ohio representative Dennis Kucinich has introduced three bills meant to educate and protect from the presence of genetically modified organisms in a product, H.R. 5577–The Genetically Engineered Food Right to Know Act, H.R. 5578–Genetically Engineered Safety Act and H.R. 5579–Genetically Engineered Technology Farmer Protection Act.

H.R. 5577 would amend the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, the Federal Meat Inspection Act, and the Poultry Products Inspection Act to require any food containing GMOs or produced with genetically engineered material be labeled accordingly.  H.R. 5578 would prohibit the open air cultivation of genetically engineered pharmaceutical or industrial crops, while H.R. 5579 would provide economical protection for farmers that may be harmed from genetically engineered seeds, plants or animals.

Gabe Saporta Wins PETA2 Sexiest Vegetarian Alive 2010

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, July 1st, 2010 in Food & Drink, Male Singers.

Gabe Saporta

Gabe Saporta can now proudly tell mom he’s one of the sexiest vegetarians alive.

The singer won in the PETA2 male category, with House star Olivia Wilde taking the female win for both PETA2 and PETA.

Last year, Saporta had Tweeted about not winning after being nominated for several years in a row:

“i can’t believe i lost sexiest veggie 3 years in a row! what a horrible disappointment. what ever will i tell my mom?”

Mom Saporta should be proud to have a son who takes a stance against animal cruelty by not only publicly acknowledging his vegetarian diet, but urging fans to avoid fur too.

Kate Gosselin

TLC is airing a special episode of Kate Plus 8 on Sunday, July 11 at 9 pm ET/PT where Kate Gosselin will become a small farmer!

The Dancing with the Stars competitor is said to get excited about the prospect of producing her own organic eggs and enlists the help of some Amish neighbors to help her build a chicken coop.

Good for Kate being a local farmer, but will her eggs really be organic? Is it even possible to define what the heck an organic egg is?

Eat your veggies or pay a fine?

Supreme Court nominee Elena Kagan was asked by Senator Tom Coburn is she thought it was constitutional to require people to eat three servings of vegetables and fruits daily to cut health care costs.

“Sounds like a dumb law,” Kagan said. “But I think that the question of whether it’s a dumb law is different from … the question of whether it’s constitutional and I think that courts would be wrong to strike down laws that they think are senseless just because they’re senseless.”

The question was jokingly thrown at Kagan by Coburn, but was alluding to the idea of whether people should be required to purchase health insurance, a measure part of the health care overhaul that’s expected to be challenged nationwide.
