Heather Mills Christmas Dinner Tips And Ideas For Every Holiday

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 16th, 2010 in Chefs, Food & Drink, Recipes.

Heather Mills

Heather Mills has already shared some tips for enjoying the holiday season without meat and dairy in Veggie Vision’s Guide for enjoying a vegetarian Christmas. Now, she’s advising any vegetarian or vegan to take matters into their own hands when visiting relatives who eat meat. Bring your own and don’t bother arguing about values this time. Stuff your face with good food instead!

“The best thing you can do is bring an amazing dish to the party – such as a vegan dessert or yummy things that people will try,” Mills said. “It’s best not to get into a heavy conversation around the dinner table about your choice. Just say “you live your life, and I live mine, but if you want to have a serious discussion about it, let’s have it another day”. The best way to convert people is by bringing great-tasting food and by looking fit and healthy.”

When a site like Vegetarians In Paradise has recommendations for every major holiday of the year, you don’t even have to bother searching for recipes.

Cast of 30 Rock

The 68th Golden Globe Awards presented to the best in film and TV will be held on January 11, 2011.

Robert Carlock, executive producer of “30 Rock,” has already confirmed to USA Today what some of those at their dinner table will be ordering, although he wasn’t in the mood to discuss many details.

“It is truly an honor to be nominated. We couldn’t be more thrilled. Our table will require two vegetarian meals. Is now the time to deal with this?”

Howard Stern Considering Going Vegan Like Co-Host Robin Quivers

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, December 16th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Food & Drink, Radio Hosts.

Howard Stern

Howard Stern is the perfect candidate for your next vegan.

He’s married to animal welfare activist and author of a book about caring for dogs, Beth. He’s got a co-host, Robin Quivers, who’s been vegan for half a decade and showed the world how it’s a great path to a trimmer waistline by losing 60 pounds from following the diet.

But, really, how does Stern feel about a diet of seitan and soybeans?

“I need to get involved eventually in this vegan shit, like Robin, cuz this is killing me,” he said on a recent show.

Emily Deschanel

“I’m a vegan, but you can be really unhealthy as a vegan, too. Vegan just means that you don’t use animal products, so you don’t wear leather, you don’t wear wool, and you don’t eat animal products. But you can eat french fries and stuff like that all day.”

Emily Deschanel, clarifying that not every vegan is into it for health reasons. Fair, but you should at least try to follow a diet that excludes animal products and is better for you. Some occasional vegan junk isn’t bad. Our vote is for vegan ice cream and vegan cookies. What’s your favorite non-nutritional vegan item to chow down on?

Elmo visited the White House Kitchen,  in perfect timing for the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act being signed into law by President Obama, which is expected to bring changes to school menus that involve more fruits and vegetables and less processed food.

Elmo was there to experience the veggie burrito with beans, rice and peppers that White House chef Sam Kass whipped up prior to his arrival. When Elmo expresses concern about going to school because of the food, Kass reassures him there’s good food at school, adding, “Because of this new law that is passed, we’re going to make sure that all food is healthy, nutritious and delicious.”

While Kass’ statement is mostly true, as we noted recently, it may be harder to get a true vegetarian burrito at school than we hoped. Crossing our fingers all veg children will be able to do the “melon happy dance” that Elmo does when they get in the lunch line next year.

Insight #6, based on Allrecipes.com’s Food Trends Survey, is all about the economy and veggies–Veganomics. Bo Obama, First Dog, Receives Vegan Treats From PETA

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, December 15th, 2010 in Animal Issues, Food & Drink, Politicians.

Bo Obama

Bo Obama, America’s first dog, has been exceptionally good this year by not chewing up the first lady’s dinner party shoes and as a reward, he’s getting some vegan dog treats from PETA.

In a letter addressed to Michelle, PETA’s president Ingrid Newkirk also reminds the first family that a harness might make Bo more comfortable during walks.

“As animal rights advocates, we would be remiss if we didn’t make sure that Bo got a gift basket from PETA headquarters here in Washington,” the letter says.
