Kate Nash Pet Rabbit, OCD Made Her Go Vegetarian

The MOJO Honours List 2009 - Arrivals

Kate Nash knew going vegetarian would ease her allergy symptoms she experienced after eating dairy and wheat.

But the neurotic side of her told herself that maybe her pet bunny, Fluffy, would get over an illness if she quit eating animals like her.

“We found out that she had cancer,” Nash said, according to Black Book Mag.

“Then I had a conversation with someone about being vegetarian, and they were like, ‘You should be vegetarian.’ I was like, I like eating meat. But then it popped into my brain that if I didn’t eat animals, maybe Fluffy would be okay. I was being OCD, like, if I didn’t do this, then something bad would happen. So I stopped eating meat.”

That’s a much better compulsion than reciting Fluffy’s name 273 times a day. That won’t do anything but drive both Nash and the rabbit nuts. Now that Fluffy is better, we’re glad Nash is still not giving into her cravings for cheeseburgers. But don’t expect her to encourage anyone else to do so at this time.

“She’s had the operation now, but I’m still doing it. But if anyone ever says to me, ‘I’m thinking of going vegetarian,’ I’m like, No, no, no. Don’t go vegetarian. My favorite thing is cheeseburgers.”

2009 ARIA Hall of Fame

Missy Higgins has voiced support for Lentil As Anything, a pay by donation restaurant in Australia that provides job training and employment for refugees and homeless people at four sites in Melbourne.

According to The Age, the organization’s lease is set to expire at the end of this year and hints that higher rent tenants might replace it at its Abbotsford Convent site have been given.

The site employs 60 people and serves more than 500 vegetarian meals a day.

Vegetarian and activist Higgins said that as a “Melbourne institution” it bought a much-needed sense of culture and community to the convent.”

Convent Bakery owner and coalition member Arnold Salinas said that although his lease is good until 2016, whatever happens to Lentil as Anything could set an precedent for other businesses to come as the center is turned into a “shopping mall” atmosphere.

“Their driving force is not going to be any community spirit, it’s just going to be based on how much money can they really get out of their business,” he said.

Abbotsford Convent Foundation chief executive Maggie Maguire said the board is currently considering all options and that it has upheld the original vision for Abbotsford Convent, which was for an arts, culture and education precinct.

And although ACF’s budget is derived from leases and other events at the center “making a profit is never, ever a priority above our community,” Ms Maguire said.

Getting rid of healthy, good food and a place to restart for the less fortunate is never good for the community.

Hope the ACF and its tenants can come to agreement that benefits all.

Janet Jackson & Malik Yoba Visit BET's 106 & Park

There was a lot of eating during the filming of Tyler Perry‘s latest film, Why Did I Get Married Too?

There was also a lot of eating off screen for star Janet Jackson, who plays the role of Patricia Agnew.

Between scenes Jackson hid in her trailer and munched on what she thinks is the best vegetarian food you can sink your teeth into in Atlanta, Georgia.

“I was really diving into my work. So it was about eating…in my trailer! And really focusing on the character, and trying to stay in character. And after, I was just so drained and so tired. And especially having to get up early the next morning, and do it all over again.

“There’s a restaurant called Veggieland in Atlanta, it’s very good,” Jackson told Long Island Press.

Wonder if Janet likes a side of Veggieland’s sweet potato fries with her veggie burger?

Janet Jackson & Malik Yoba Visit BET's 106 & Park

Janet Jackson dabbled into the acting world with Tyler Perry‘s “Why Did I Get Married Too?” and she’ll be once again taking to the screen in another one of Perry’s films, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.”

Growing up in Indiana, she never had the guts to get into acting in school and then her music career took off, leaving her with little time to pursue other interests until now.

Having already won a Grammy, she’s now ready to aim for an Oscar.

But which one does she prefer?

“That’s like asking if I’d rather have my vegan cookies or my soy milk. I want it all,” Jackson told Chicago Sun Times.

Mmm…is that what she’s sharing on the set of Perry’s next film?

Maybe she can convince him to make a movie to the likes of “Don’t Bring Meat To Madea’s Family Reunion.”
