The Pretenders Perform In Madrid

“I just don’t understand those meat eaters. How can they justify eating those beautiful animals? And how can they justify the fact that half the world is starving when there is enough food for everybody? We’re feeding grain to cows while people die of hunger. How can people not see that is wrong?”

—-Chrissie Hynde, in a recent interview with the Liverpool Daily Post. Chrissie likes to stay in the business of what she can get, and that’s owning her own vegan restaurant, The Vegiterranean, in her hometown of Akron, Ohio.

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, July 2nd, 2009 in Animal Issues, Female Musicians, Female Singers, Videos.

mclachlan

Sarah McLachlan was recently interviewed by Canada CTV news while she was scheduled to perform for the Canada Day festivities.

Sarah had a few choice words to say about the seal hunting industry.

“The commercial sealing industry in Canada is perverse and sick. … They club these seals as early as 12 days old, and half the time they hook them and they drag them across the ice. … It’s archaic, and it’s horrible, and I want it to stop.”

Fashion alert: Notice the baby seal on Sarah’s shirt. This woman knows how to make a statement.

When asked what she thought of Canada’s Governor General Michaelle Jean killing a seal and then eating its raw heart, she expressed interest in having a “talk” with her about it.

Cannot Buy My Soul The Songs of Kev Carmody

“For me, it’s more of a personal thing. I don’t judge any musician or nonmusician for living the sort of lifestyle that they do. I think it all comes down to conscience and making the decision for you and your life. Everyone’s at a different point of realization.”

“The first few tours I did, I was talking about [green issues] on stage. Then I just figured I probably shouldn’t talk about it every tour, so now I guess I’m just talking about it in interviews. It’s something I’ve been doing for quite a while now, so it doesn’t feel like news.”

—Singer, musician and songwriter Missy Higgins, in an interview with Mother Nature Network, on whether or not she considers herself an “elite” greenie.

Missy could count herself as being in the upper echelon of green musicians. Her biggest green move is being vegan. She also donated profits from her song, “Steer,” to the Sierra Club’s Two Percent Project, makes her tours carbon neutral, and performed at Live Earth Australia last year.
