Classic Rock Roll Of Honour - Show

When on tour, Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders love to engage in some serious avocado snacking.

“We must be the only band that on our catering there’s a big bowl of avocados!” Hynde told stuff.co.nz.

But there’s no guacamole dip being passed between the band members.

Chrissie and her crew prefer the green goodness between slices of bread.

“Nick, my bass player, has this secret recipe for avocado sandwiches which we eat every night on tour,” Hynde explained.

An avocado a day may keep the bad cholesterol away for the band, as the fruit is rich in heart healthy monounsaturated fat, shown in several studies to lower both LDL “bad” cholesterol and triglycerides.

If you get the chance to ask Hynde for her autograph, see if she’ll scribble the sandwich recipe on the CD jacket as well.

Joan Jett Performs at Rally in Pittsburgh

Joan Jett and The Blackhearts latest album, Greatest Hits, is eco-friendly, much like the Blackhearts’ lead singer.

According to Tonic, the packaging is made from 100% recycled paper and biodegradable trays.

The CD is just a peek into Joan’s life of environmental friendliness, which includes not eating meat.

“I’ve always appreciated nature,” Joan was quoted as saying on a website biography. “Trees, grass, birds, sun, and even insects. I obsessively recycle. I almost never turn on lights; I pretty much live in the dark. I don’t use a lot of water. I am a vegetarian, so I avoid contributing to the major environmental damage that the meat industry creates. I hope that soon we can make sure that everything we do is earth-friendly.”

Zac Brown Band To PETA–Pickles Have Parents, Chicken New Tofu

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, February 10th, 2010 in Bands, Celebrity Tweets, Not So Vegetarian.

The 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards - Arrivals

After being sent a letter from PETA that suggested they consider a vegetarian lifestyle and encourage fans to do the same, the Zac Brown Band has fired off a response on Twitter.

And it’s not exactly “We’ll have to try that sometime.”

“Dear PETA – Plants are living creatures too… Bacon had a mother but so did Pickle. It takes life to support life – welcome to the planet.”

The band must not have gotten their point across in one Tweet, because the next day, another reply was posted.

“Chicken is the new tofu.”

Sure.

And heart disease is the new white meat.

Zac Brown Band Asked By PETA To Go Meatless

The 52nd Annual GRAMMY Awards - Press Room

Southern living may be stereotyped as buttered rolls and pork chops, but who says country music stars can’t have breaded tofu in place of chicken fried steak?

The CMT blog reports The Zac Brown Band has been asked by PETA to consider going vegetarian and think twice about the values their song Chicken Fried is portraying.

“Life on the farm isn’t what it used to be,” PETA’s representative Michelle Cho wrote. “Green pastures and idyllic barnyards have been replaced by windowless, cramped, filthy metal sheds. Animals are treated as nothing more than products, with little regard for their health, happiness, or basic needs.”

The group also sent Coy Bowles,  Zac Brown,  Clay Cook,  Jimmy De Martini,  Chris Fryar and John Driskell Hopkins fake meats and suggested they host “eat and greet” sessions serving veggie food.

Maybe the boys will pick up a copy of Ann Jackson’s Cookin Southern Vegetarian Style and serve homemade jambalaya at the next big gig.

The Cribs Add Johnny Marr Over Vegetarian Barbecue

Isle Of Wight Festival 2008 - Day 2

The story of boy meets band is always exciting to hear, and according to the Boston Herald, ex Smith’s musician Johnny Marr met with the other members of The Cribs over a vegetarian barbecue in Portland, Oregon.

“At first it was a little weird,” Gary Jarman, bassist and singer of The Cribs said. “I couldn’t figure out who this guy was. Why was another Englishman there? Then the penny dropped. It was Johnny Marr! He said how much of a fan of the band he was. That would have been enough for me because he was such an influence.”

Hopefully Jarman hadn’t drank a lot of soda at the barbecue, causing him to belch when Johnny extended his hand.

Johnny has been officially playing with brothers Gary, Ryan and Ross since 2008

Weezer “Raditude” Makes Us Wonder About Rivers Cuomo

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, November 11th, 2009 in Bands, Food & Drink.

Weezer "Raditude"

Weezer "Raditude"

Weezer has new album out, Raditude, and we think it sets a very bad example for the love sick vegetarian fool.

The song, (If You’re Wondering If I Want You To) I Want You To, (as if the long winded-ness of that title wasn’t enough), has some poor dude eating meat in hopes he’ll get to some base with his girl.

“I took you to Best Buy, you took me home to meet your Mom and Dad
Your Mom cooked meatloaf even though I don’t eat meat
I dug you so much, I took some for the team”

Ugh!

This we learn after reading a Tweet describing Rivers Cuomo‘s amazement at veggie burger technology.

We’re wondering if Cuomo sat quietly like a veggie pus and actually ate meat during a date with an omnivore before.

All we can hope for is during the next dinner date, the “If you’re wondering,” guy made an announcement he’d just turned vegetarian.

And that this flying dog voluntarily played hurdle track star for the cover.

Raditutde features a singing collaboration with Lil Wayne (Can’t Stop) and songwriting input from The All American Rejects, Jermaine Dupree and Jackknife Lee.
