Quantcast Johnny Marr

Ricky Gervais

Three British stars are backing a campaign against all forms of hunting as a sport.

Ricky Gervais, Morrissey and Johnny Marr support the League Against Cruel Sports. The league is involved in bringing attention to a variety of hunting involving animals, including bullfighting, dog fighting, greyhound racing and the snaring of animals like foxes and rabbits.

The league is often involved with investigating illegal hunts, campaigning on the legislative level and running sanctuaries designed to protect wildlife in heavily hunted areas.

“Animals are not around just for people to abuse and kill in the name of so-called entertainment and sport, Gervais said. “It’s beyond belief that it actually happens and that certain deluded people get enjoyment from it. I support the League and its campaigns to try and stop cruel sports.”

“I am very proud of the fact that 20 years on people tell me they became a vegetarian as a result of ‘Meat is Murder. I think that is quite literally rock music changing someone’s life – it’s certainly changing the life of animals. It is one of the things I am most proud of. I think it was quirky to call the album ‘Meat is Murder’ and it was way ahead of its time, but we were on a label that let us do that kind of thing.”

Johnny Marr may have sang along to “Meat is Murder” when he played with The Smiths and he still follows a vegan diet today. However, his plant counterpart has no problem trapping innocents bugs and gulping them down. Guess everyone has an evil twin.

The Cribs Add Johnny Marr Over Vegetarian Barbecue

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, January 15th, 2010 in Bands, Food & Drink.

Isle Of Wight Festival 2008 - Day 2

The story of boy meets band is always exciting to hear, and according to the Boston Herald, ex Smith’s musician Johnny Marr met with the other members of The Cribs over a vegetarian barbecue in Portland, Oregon.

“At first it was a little weird,” Gary Jarman, bassist and singer of The Cribs said. “I couldn’t figure out who this guy was. Why was another Englishman there? Then the penny dropped. It was Johnny Marr! He said how much of a fan of the band he was. That would have been enough for me because he was such an influence.”

Hopefully Jarman hadn’t drank a lot of soda at the barbecue, causing him to belch when Johnny extended his hand.

Johnny has been officially playing with brothers Gary, Ryan and Ross since 2008

The Smiths have a slim chance of getting back together, but Johnny Marr and Morrissey were great then and now.

Both vegetarians, Johnny was labeled the “bad boy” during the band’s stint, while Morrissey was the focused dude who never brought a groupie to his hotel room.

They complimented each other beautifully during the song Meat Is Murder.

So between the two former Smiths members, who would you rather…

Johnny Marr: Not The Tabloid Vegan Bad Boy Anymore

The MOJO Honours List 2009 - Arrivals

When Johnny Marr and Morrissey were together for The Smiths (something that will probably never happen again unless Morrissey eats his genitals), the media portrayed each of them as opposite stereotypes.

“That all started with the Smiths,” Marr told the Daily Mail. “Morrissey was meant to be all about vegetarianism, celibacy and Virginia Woolf. I was all about football, clothes and a bit of pot-smoking. That’s very reductive. If people bought into that, I don’t blame anyone but myself. If you’re in a successful band, you tend to fall into a role.”

“…I’m not remotely laddish. I’m a grown-up. I’m vegan and teetotal. I run 50 miles a week, listening to Franz Ferdinand and the Four Tops at top volume.”

With all the stories of celebrities falling to drugs recently, it’s great that Johnny is publicly talking about what a clean life he lives.

Eva Mendes Wants To Get Naked For Morrissey

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, December 15th, 2008 in Actresses.

Actress Eva Mendes (Hitch, Ghost Rider) has worn her birthday suit for PETA in the past and now she wants Morrissey to join her.

“I really want to do a PETA ad with Morrissey, I’d be happy to do it naked if need be.”

Although she is willing to show her buns for animal rights, she’s not sure if she should expect full frontal from the former singer of The Smiths.

“Whether Morrissey would want to get naked with me is another question. Maybe he could come up with something more creative than out-and-out nudity.”

Like maybe a fake chik’n patty covering up the essential parts?

Morrissey is an avid supporter of PETA as well as a vegan, so teaming up for the cause makes sense.

Mendes said she’s had a crush on Morrissey ever since she discovered The Smiths.

Morrissey, who is rumored to be talking to former Smiths member Johnny Marr about a reunion, is being presented with a lot of decisions lately. Reunionize with the boys, get naked with the girl…Tough choices, but someone’s gotta make them.

Morrissey Ready To Eat His, Um, You Know

Morrissey Plays Alexandra Palace

Gossip has been taking place over the internet for some time about the 80s English Rock band The Smiths reforming for a reunion. But Morrissey has in the past denied having a happily ever after renewal of vows with Johnny Marr and the others.

“I’d rather eat my own testicles than reform The Smiths – and that’s saying something coming from a vegetarian,” he was once quoted as saying.

Wonder if he likes barbecue or sweet and sour with those jewels?

Before we gross you out even more with our junior high school humor, we should tell you that a source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper:

“The very fact they are talking again is the most hopeful thing in years. The industry has been buoyant with talk of them getting back together.

“A lot of people think of them as the best thing since The Beatles. They’d fill stadiums many times over.”

Reforming could be a good thing for Morrissey, who is so strict about his diet he even prohibits his employees from eating meat while on tour.

There’s power in numbers. With Johnny and and his entire band backing him up singing Meat Is Murder, Morrissey might get his wish to have the beef and pork selling food booths turned into tofu kabob ones.
