Becki Newton Of “Ugly Betty” Smelled Real Ugly In Fur

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, September 18th, 2009 in Actresses, Fashion, Fur.

On location with Ugly Betty in NYC

Becki Newton plays the catty receptionist Amanda Tanen for MODE magazine on ABC’s Ugly Betty.

MODE is all about the fashion, and Becki has admitted to wearing some pretty ugly fashion, in our opinion.

Of her $14 vintage leather jacket with fur trim collar, Becki said, “After a few years of wearing it, I realized it didn’t smell that good. But I continued to wear it, because I loved it.”

Fur and leather don’t smell good?

Trust us, Becki, they don’t look good either.

Jennifer Aniston Wants Mexican Restaurant: We Suggest Sin Carne

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 17th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Videos.

So if you watched Late Night With Conan O’Brien Tuesday, you might have heard Jennifer Aniston mention she’s interested in starting her own Mexican Restaurant.

We think she should take the plunge and make a vegetarian Mexican restaurant.

Beans, rice and vegetables make up a good portion of the Mexican Diet.

And texturized vegetable protein, faux chicken or pork taste so similar to meat, customers would never miss the real thing.

Chrissie Hynde was able to build a successful Italian vegan eatery, The Vegiterranean, in a meat eating Midwestern town and says mostly meat eaters frequent it.

Jen would have no problem selling Mexican meatless.

Gwyneth Paltrow’s Night-Shady Elimination of Vegetables

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 17th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

Gwyneth Paltrow Attends The Children Of The City Champions of Hope Gala

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, so we’ll probably start seeing some turkey burger recipes pop up on Gwyneth Paltrow‘s website Goop.com.

The former vegetarian has been ripped by the community for “going back,” but she does try to refrain from some meat, if only for health reasons.

An Esquirer writer took on the task of following Gwyneth’s advice from Goop, which resulted in a hilarious piece of commentary.

The food plan followed called for eliminating several good for you vegetables, like tomatoes.

“Her meal plan cut out all dairy, gluten, meat, shellfish, condiments, sugar, alcohol, caffeine, and an entire class of food (tomatoes, eggplant, potatoes, and peppers) called nightshades. (Who knew?) Her menus were simple: For breakfast I consumed blueberry-and-almond-milk smoothies (fortified with protein and probiotic supplements), and for lunch and dinner I alternated among Paltrow’s recipes for light salads and thin soups. (The full seven-day menu is on goop.com.) Over the course of a single week I spent about $300 at a cluttered health-food market, and every night I spent about an hour preparing the next day’s meals. For those first few days, I felt terrible, and looking over my notes from that period, I’m kind of amazed I stuck with it.”

Kudos to Gwyneth for the almond milk suggestion, but to cut all Nightshade foods of peppers, potatoes, tomatoes, and eggplants?

Sounds night-shady.

Olivia Wilde GQ October 2009: A Vegan Perfect Picture

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, September 17th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink.

Vegan House actress Olivia Wilde is gracing the cover of the October 2009 issue of GQ magazine and she’s giving the vegs a darn good name.

Apparently before the interview, the reporter had this “fantasy” plan of how everything would be conducted, including Olivia eating veggie burgers at In and Out.

Um, In-n-Out has veggie burgers? Don’t see any on the menu.

“We’re going to shoot sloppy pool and play Galaga and persuade two burly Hells Angels on their Harleys to drive us to an In-N-Out Burger, where I’ll order the Double-Double and Olivia, a vegetarian, will have a veggie burger and maybe a few fries, because, you know, she’s drunk, and those fries are amazing. Then we’ll climb into the hills and scale the famous hollywood sign, where we’ll sit until sunrise on opposite sides of the giant H, and Olivia will grandly recall her adventures in show business before she throws up, as I hold her flowing brown hair.”

Daryl Hannah Grows Bigger Vegetarian Balls Than Al Gore

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 16th, 2009 in Actresses, Environment-Eco-Green, Food & Drink.

Daryl Hannah & Hilary Shepard Promote The Game Liebrary

Daryl Hannah recently spoke at the Project Green Summit that benefited the Texas Trees Foundation and the North Texas Clean Air Coalition.

Hannah, a longtime vegetarian and unlike Al Gore, is not afraid to bring up the subject of not eating meat to protect the planet.

Oooh. Did we just bust on Al Gore?

“The meat industry puts out more carbon emissions than the transportation industry,” Hannah said. “Even giving up meat for a weekend, helps.”

Hannah warned against getting off the hook with carbon offsets and offered ways people could green their life directly.

“It is less important to offset and more important to ask the question: Do I need so much stuff? We need re-evaluate our lifestyles…for our own health and our kids’ future. And we’ll save money in the long run. ”

Hannah added that you should “get the poisons out of your house,” and ensure your cleaning and cosmetic products are environmentally friendly and biodegradable.

Being a good looking environmentalist has its perks.

Daryl said that when she was recently arrested for protesting, cops asked to have their pictures taken with her.

Hope she made them promise to recycle and give up meat one day of the week.

Isabel Lucas Backs Out Like A Baby From “Rights Revoked”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009 in Actresses, Animal Issues, Film & TV.

The Cove Special New York Screening

Isabel Lucas has pulled out of an animal rights documentary titled Rights Revoked, after not being able to get along with her co-star Elissa Sursara.

Wow.

It’s like save the whales, but you can’t use my markers to make your poster.

According to bscreview.com:

“The 24-year-old booming actress cites brewing on-set tensions and personal discomfort for her decision, while Sursara remains on board for the project, something fans of Lucas’ congratulate her for. Said one comment on a News.com.au subsite, ‘I commend Elissa for sticking to her passion for animals and not backing out like a baby.’”

If there’s any reason to get up in the morning to look at someone you don’t like, it’s definitely a higher purpose like animal welfare.

The Transformers star insists she is ensuring the document will be successful, as having many “anger” and “messy emotions” will get in the way of the production.

Natalie Portman, Ghostface Killah Can Make Tunes, Tofu Together

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009 in Actresses, Male Singers, Offbeat.

Natalie Portmans MakingOf Project - New York City

Warning: This post gets somewhat graphic. But it’s also hilarious.

In a chat with Jake Gyllenhaal for Interview magazine, vegetarian Natalie Portman revealed she liked listening to dirty hip hop music.

“Really, really obscene hip-hop. I love it so much. It makes me laugh and then it makes me want to dance. Those are like my two favorite things, so combined … I’ve been listening a lot lately to ‘Wait (The Whisper Song)’ by the Ying Yang Twins, where the lyrics are like, ‘Wait ’til you see my dick’—which is just amazing because it’s whispered. [whispers] ‘Wait ’til you see my dick … ’ [laughs] Crazy. So I just listen to it like I’m a five-year-old, like, ‘Oh my god! I can’t believe he just said that!’”

Ghostface Killah of Wu Tang Clan, also a vegetarian heard of this and now is certain he and Natalie should make music together!

“When I read that, it was, like, ‘Oh, [bleep], she would love the [bleep] I got right here on this album!’ It was wild, ‘cause I remember her as the little girl in The Professional, and now she’s all about the wild [bleep].” Killah adds, “Yo, if you see her, give her my number. Tell her we gotta make some music together.”

A collaboration like this could get interesting.

At least the two will able to agree on snack food in the studio.

Lea Michele “Glee” Star: “Buck Cruelty” To Horse Drawn Carriages

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009 in Actresses, Animal Issues.

Lea_Michele_Spring_Awakening

Lea Michele is hitting all the right notes with this PSA for PETA against horse drawn carriages, Buck Cruelty.

You may recognize Lea from the new Fox hit television show, Glee, but she’s no stranger to acting, as she has several credits on Broadway, including the musical, Spring Awakening.

According to the Coalition To Ban Horse Drawn Carriages, these attractions aren’t good for public or animal safety, and have resulted in both people and horses getting injured.

And horses sustain joint injuries and other medical problems as a result of pounding the street pavement for long hours in adverse weather conditions.

Sounds like a Broadway show no one would want to attend.
