Daryl Hannah “Good” Interview Describes “The Garden” Protest

Premiere Of Exit Through The Gift Shop A Banksy Film - Arrivals

Daryl Hannah is no stranger to activism, even the kind that gets her arrested and asked for an autograph by the police.

During a recent interview with Good, Hannah described a tree sit in she accomplished when an urban community garden in downtown Los Angeles was threatened with the construction of an incinerator.

Fourteen acres of land was used by families in the neighborhood to grow over 500 fruit trees in a plot that was set aside after the riots in 1992.

“Situated in an extremely industrial and polluted area, the farm became a living, breathing, green space, acting as the lungs of South Central by reducing global warming emissions, and sucking up tons of nasty carbon dioxide from the Alameda corridor,” Hannah said. “And to top it all off, the land became a habitat for birds, butterflies, lizards, honeybees, and a safe haven for children living in a virtual warzone.”

“We used the tree as a lookout perch. Two of the greatest tree sitters, Julia Butterfly Hill, who spent over two years living in a redwood to bring attention to and stop their destruction, and John Quigley, known for saving the ancient oak “Old Glory,” lived in the tree.”

Despite Hannah’s and others’ protests, the South Central Los Angeles Community Garden was razed, and a documentary on its history was made into a film.

True Stevenson, Kirstie Alley Son–Fur Real Or Fur Fake

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 15th, 2010 in Actresses, Fur, Fur Real Or Fur Fake.

Kirstie Alley Takes Her Kids To NYC Premiere Of 'The Runaways'

Kirstie Alley spent some time with the furry fam when she attended a preview of The Runaways.

Her son, True Stevenson, just put a ring on it and asked his girlfriend of one year to marry.

This kid is only 17 years old!

Anyway, besides taking things slow and figuring out who he is, he might want to learn about how animals are killed for fashion in the fur industry cause only the bride of Frankenstein would want to snuggle up with something that looks so dead.

But his coat could be fake…

Take a look and decide for yourself.

Is True for real?

Or is he (hopefully) faking it?

Pamela Anderson was recently on Larry King Live when Larry King asked Pamela what she thought about the SeaWorld tragedy several weeks ago where a trainer was killed by an animal.

King: Do you think there should be SeaWorlds?

Anderson: I don’t think there should be SeaWorlds. Of course not. They should not be in captivity at all.

A viewer from Facebook told King to ask Pamela what she eats to stay looking so great and Pamela got into her discussion on what a vegetarian and vegan is.

She also talked about her new celebrity signature vegan milkshake at Millions of Milkshakes in Santa Monica, California.

The SeaWorld conversation begins around minute 2:20.

Kate Winslet Narrates Anti Foie Gras Video

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 15th, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues, Food & Drink.

82nd Annual Academy Awards - Arrivals

Kate Winslet has lent her voice to narrate a new video on the cruelty of foie gras.

“Foie gras is sold as an expensive delicacy in some restaurants and shops, but no one pays a higher price for foie gras than the ducks and geese who are abused and killed to make it,” Winslet says in a video for PETA.

“Please join us in helping ducks and geese by pledging never to eat foie gras.”

Foie gras is a delicacy produced by force feeding geese to a point where their livers swell tremendously, up to ten times their normal size.

As a result, the animals become sick and unable to move naturally.

The birds’ throats often bleed from the tubes placed in them for feeding and according to The Daily Latest News, the bodies of the birds who have died show heavy internal bleeding, fungal and bacterial infections and hepatic encephalopathy – a brain ailment caused by liver failure.

Winslet joins several other British celebrities who’ve spoken against the industry, including Sir Roger Moore.

Tiffani Thiessen “Eat Humane” WSPA Campaign (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 15th, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues, Food & Drink, Videos.

Tiffani Thiessen has partnered with the World Society for the Protection of Animals to spread the word about the organization’s Eat Humane Campaign.

The campaign is meant to educate the public to read food labels to determine if meat, poultry, and dairy was produced humanely.

“Look for cage-free eggs, free-range poultry or grass fed meat,” Thiessen says in the PSA above.

The White Collar actress feels that by doing so, everyone can make a difference in the lives of animals, whether they eat meat or not.

“Eating doesn’t have to be black and white – eat meat or be a vegetarian,” she said in a press release. “The more important thing is that you should make educated choices when buying your food, which can be confusing and misleading with the food labeling system. It is hard to know what you are really purchasing and that is why I filmed this PSA – I wanted to help WSPA inform people about what the labels really mean.”

Olivia Wilde Adds “Butter” To Her Vegan Life Too

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 14th, 2010 in Actresses, Film & TV, Food & Drink.

24th Annual American Cinematheque Honors Matt Damon - Arrivals

Joining the cast of Butter with Alicia Silverstone will be vegan actress Olivia Wilde.

The film is a political satire of the 2008 Democratic election, in which butter carving is the competition, instead of an election.

Here’s a synopsis from MTV, which includes the roles for Jennifer Garner and Ty Burrell:

“Jennifer is the leading lady Laura — the Hillary Clinton of this scenario who is poised to win the butter-carving competition. Her husband, played by Ty Burrell, is a term-limited butter carving champ who picks up a stripper mistress along the way. While that is developing, Laura finds her plans to win the competition thwarted by a young African American upstart, played by Yara Shahidi.”

Wilde will be playing the stripper who seduces the former butter carving champion.

Previous reports said the Silverstone would play the character of the stripper, but it is now known she will play the adoptive mother of the African American upstart butter carver.

Whether the producers will be using real butter, margarine or something completely inedible isn’t known, but let’s hope if it’s real, they source if from small local farms that treat their cows more kindly, as opposed to alleged conditions uncovered at a Land O’Lakes supplier, which included filthy conditions and downer cows not being treated by veterinarians.

Pamela Anderson A*Muse Clothing Lawsuit From Maggy London

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, April 14th, 2010 in Actresses, Fashion.

Pamela Anderson and Richie Rich step out on to the runway in the A*MUSE by Richie Rich fall fashion show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Bryant Park in New York

Pamela Anderson may be facing a legal battle over the name of her eco friendly clothing line.

The line created by both she and Richie Rich, Muse, was later changed to A*Muse, a move Maggy London International claims was “a disingenuous effort to disguise their infringing activities.”

Executives at Maggy London filed a lawsuit on Monday claiming they trademarked the name “Muse” in 2002.

Maggy London claims they contacted Pamela and asked her to drop the name, but she refused.

Well, technically she’s put an “A” and a “*” in front of it, so it’s not “Muse” anymore so what’s the complaint?

Oh, yeah. Here it is.

From Contact Music:

“The suit seeks an order barring the designing duo from using any “colorable imitation” of the trademark and forcing them to hand over all profits and remaining clothing, for “impoundment or destruction”, according to the New York Post.”
