The Broadway play Looped has come to an end after six weeks.

Producers closed the show early, citing low ticket sales as a factor.

Animal rights activists are at least happy to hear the fur coat worn by Valerie will retire, along with the show.

Valerie played the role of Tallulah Bankhead, an actress who wore a mink for 40 years and when PETA got word Valerie wore a real fur on stage, they sent her a letter, reminding her of faux options.

According to Contact Music, the actress told BlogTalkRadio.com, “They did send a letter and I’m very respectful of animals but I’m not a vegetarian. I did wear fur years ago but I never wear it now. They just wanted to make the point that the animals suffer and they die horribly.”

You don’t have to be a vegetarian to be turned off by killing animals in the name of fashion. There are plenty of celebrities who still eat meat, but graciously say no to real fur.

“I passed the letter onto William Ivey Long (costume designer) because that’s his work and it’s Tallulah’s signature. She wore a full-length mink coat for 40 years.”

Valerie said she didn’t have a problem wearing the coat, because it was several decades old and no animals were recently killed for it.

“It happens to be a vintage coat from the 60s. This coat was from so long ago that we didn’t kill animals for this production.”

Gwyneth Paltrow Shares Vegetarian Children’s Book On Goop

Sundance Film Festival '07 - Gwyneth Paltrow and Keri Russell Read To Local Children

Gwyneth Paltrow has a couple of tykes of her own, so she knows firsthand the joy of reading children’s books, both classic and modern.

In a recent edition of her online newsletter, Goop.com, Paltrow has included several of her favorite children’s books and for parents who wish to combine bed time stories with education, Hubert the Pudge: A Vegetarian Tale by Henrik Drescher, is one she recommends picking up during your next trip to the library or bookstore.

Hubert is a pig-elephant hybrid with horns (could this be a result of some terrible big farm GMO project?) who narrowly escapes his fate as bacon and ham when he slides through a hole at Farmer Jake’s Processing Plant.

After meeting up with some other animals with freedom, the team devise a plan to rescue the others and persuade the farmer to open a tofu dog factory instead.

“This book is a great way to teach kids about vegetarianism plus the brightly colored ink illustrations make each page fun to get lost in,” writes Gwyneth.

Broadway Opening Of RED - Arrivals And Curtain Call

Alicia Silverstone may be a vegan, but she may add some butter to her life soon.

The actress is rumored to be cast in the film starring Modern Family‘s Ty Burrell featuring a butter carving champion in a small town.

According to Access Hollywood, Production Weekly says Silverstone is currently in negotiation for the comedy that has already cast Jennifer Garner and Ashley Greene.

If Silverstone were competing in a butter carving contest herself, she’d pick her favorite vegan butter, Earth Balance, as she’s blogged about it on her website, The Kind Life.

Available in tubs and traditional butter sticks, Earth Balance comes in several varieties that include soy, no soy, canola oil or without, and contain all the buttery flavor minus the cholesterol and dairy farms.

Angelina Jolie Investigates Horsehair Handbag

Angelina Jolie looks stunning while riding in the back of a water taxi, filming scenes for her upcoming film The Tourist

Angelina Jolie bought a $5,000 horse hair bag, but investigated before saying “yay,” to neigh.

Before she was caught carrying the Akris ecru horsehair handbag, Jolie had her stylist call the company to see if they treated the horses well.

“We told her horses get haircuts just like we do,” Akris designers Albert Kriemler said.

As a spokesperson for the company, nothing but positive responses would be expected.

Girliegirlarmy has a suggestion for the next time Jolie buys a purse:

“A word to the wise Ms. Jolie: Anytime you are buying an animal product, you can be sure as heck it wasn’t just a “haircut.” Next time, choose compassion. Stella McCartney bags are always entirely cruelty free!”

Time now to share your thoughts.

Can an animal derived product ever be cruelty-free?
