Kristin Bauer “Tails For Whales” PSA (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, April 16th, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues, Videos.

True Blood‘s Kristin Bauer has recorded a public service announcement for the International Fund for Animal Welfare’s campaign Tails for Whales.

The campaign was designed to show governments around the world how many people support protecting dolphins in Japan.

One way concerned activists can do this is by taking a photograph of themselves making a dolphin “tail” with their hands (for better pictorial explanation, visit the website), and uploading it to the Tailsforwhales.org site.

Besides being counted as an activist, you can also add your picture to your blog or personal web page or any other media source that gets people to take a second look and asks, “What’s this about?”

Sadie Frost Ideal Dinner Party Recipes

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, April 16th, 2010 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Recipes.

The Heavy - Premiere - Afterparty

Sadie Frost has four kids, so it’s hard for her to attend regular dinner parties on the weekends, but that doesn’t stop her from enjoy food at home.

Lucky enough to live in household full of vegetarians (both she and her sister and the children), there’s always dishes of noodles, tofu and vegetables being passed around the table.

So if all the children were grown and no longer needed attending to, what would Sadie make for an ideal dinner party with friends?

“I’d probably make an artichoke and goat’s cheese salad and quinoa with really nice, succulent, oven-roasted sun-dried tomatoes from Whole Foods in Camden, North London. We always get through pots of hoummos too, and I might do some roasted vegetables and lentil soup. My mum gave me her recipe when I left home at 16 and it’s a real staple in our family. It’s so simple, but everyone who comes round loves it.”

You can grab the recipe for Sadie’s Artichoke and Goat’s Cheese Salad, along with three others that include lentil soup and quinoa with sun dried tomatoes at the Times Online.

If this is what she eats before doing nude, unbrushed cover shoots, then every woman should serve these at dinner parties.

Teri Hatcher “Get Hatched” Website To Include Meat Free Recipes?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, April 16th, 2010 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Recipes.

24th Annual Genesis Awards

Teri Hatcher is in the process of launching a new website, Get Hatched, hosted by the Disney Channel and meant to give tips on health, beauty, and more.

We’re sure hoping Teri includes some fantastic vegetarian recipes, like the one she gave to Rachael Ray for vegetarian stuffing.

Since so many stuffing mixes on the shelves contain the very unnecessary ingredient of chicken stock, it’s not as easy to “eat the sides” during Thanksgiving dinner like every meat eating family member says.

Teri’s uses olive oil, fresh herbs like sage and apples that you can stuff into your homemade tofu turkey or eat plain.

You can grab the recipe, here.

Also an animal activist, Hatcher attended the recent Genesis Awards put on by the Humane Society of the United States and co-owns land with former NFL player Howie Long that she plans to turn into an animal sanctuary.

Kristin Bauer from HBO’s True Blood is so close to being vegetarian, we’re going to award her an Honorable Mention.

The actress recently attended the Physicians Committee For Responsible Medicine’s 25th Anniversary Gala where she revealed she only eats meat about twice a year.

“I find it hard to find the words on how much it pains me,” Kristin said regarding how some animals are abused or mistreated.

The two times she does eat meat are at Christmas gatherings with the family.

“But I buy the free range meat at least,” she added.

Looking forward to the day when Kristin announces she’s making a seitan loaf or Tofurky for the next family gathering.

Betty White likes her wieners naked.

So that’s why Pink’s Hot Dogs is serving a completely plain dog in honor of Betty at the grand opening of their new restaurant in Universal City.

The actress will appear at the restaurant on Monday at 10AM for the celebration, according to The Laist.

There are two fantastic parts to this story.

First, Pink’s Hot Dogs has a vegan dog available.

There are several celebrity signature versions of dogs and the “Patt Morrison Baja Veggie Dog” is a vegan hot dog topped w/fresh guacamole, chopped tomatoes and chopped onions.

Second, for every Betty “Naked in the City” hot dog ordered, a portion of the profits will go to support the Los Angeles Department of Animal Services’ animal shelters.

Do a double good deed and ask for a vegan Betty’s naked hot dog.

Lisa Edelstein is normally what she calls a “cook-at-home person,” but when she does go out, there are few places in Los Angeles you can bet a slice of tempeh bacon on she’ll be dining at.

The vegetarian House actress shared her favorite spots with the LA Times, along with what she’s likely to order when there.

“Gingergrass on Glendale Boulevard — amazing Vietnamese food. It’s much more casual than Blair’s, but the food is delicious. I get the vegetarian pho. Inaka on La Brea and M Cafe on Melrose are also good for vegetarians. Inaka is macrobiotic Japanese, and it’s very healthful, clean food and extremely consistent. I’ve been going there for 20 years. M Cafe is a slightly more spicy and flavorful version of macrobiotic food.”

That’s a mouthful of great vegetarian friendly places to eat, but there’s more.

Where’s the perfect place for brunch in downtown LA?
