Blair River "Heart Attack Grill"

Blair River, the spokesman for Heart Attack Grill, a restaurant known for its unhealthy, super-sized fatty meals like the Quadruple Bypass Burger and Flatliner Fries, has died at the age of 29.

Besides promoting dishes with names to match the medical conditions one might develop if they ate there regularly, Heart Attack Grill offered anyone who weighed over 350 pounds free food.

Some are pointing a finger to flu or pneumonia as the reason for River’s death.

According to some experts, his weight–575 pounds–may have played a factor in him succumbing to the virus. Yes, along with high blood pressure and heart disease, washing down fries cooked in pure lard with the butterfat shake may prevent some from fighting off what simply throws everyone else in bed for a week or two.

Robert Pattinson Adopts Homeless Dog. Team Edward: 1. Team Jacob: 0

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, February 25th, 2011 in Actors, Animal Issues.

Robert Pattinson

A Cullen vampire adopting a descendant of wolves?

What would Jacob and his relatives think?!

Robert Pattinson has elevated his guy hunk/animal lover/hot dude status among women by adopting a homeless dog from a shelter that’s so overrun with strays, it has to euthanize faster than the Volturi show up when stupid vampires make a scene and risk everyone’s identities.

“It’s from a shelter and he was going to be put down,” Pattinson told the Daily Record. “I only got him two or three days ago and they only keep them for 10 days.”

The shelter is located in Louisiana, where Pattinson has been filming the final movie in the Twilight series, The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn.

The dog is sure to keep Pattinson company while he’s away filming. And although it’s hard to believe, it is the only mammal that wants to see him while he’s shooting at a remote location.

Edward Norton

Edward Norton is supporting a bill introduced to the California State Assembly by members Paul Fong and Jared Huffman that would ban the sale of shark fins in California.

Norton has been active with WildAid, a group that’s been tracking the shark fin trade for years and is trying to reduce the demand for shark fins internationally.

“As a life-long diver, I have seen the depletion of sharks caused by the shark fin trade first-hand all over the world from Indonesia to the Galapagos Islands,” Norton said. “The Fong/Huffman bill is a vital step towards reducing demand and protecting these important animals and has my full support.”

Parvesh Cheena Of “Outsourced” Can’t Give Up Dairy

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, February 15th, 2011 in Actors, Food & Drink, pescatarian.

Parvesh Cheena

Parvesh Cheena plays Gupta, an employee everybody loves to avoid on NBC’s “Outsourced,” a sitcom about an Indian call center located in Mumbai for an American-based catalog ordering company.

Cheena is a pescatarian who will add more “almond milk, brown rice and stir fry” to his diet when trying to eat healthier. He’s also got a weakness for cauliflower. However, he admits he is a cheese-aholic and it’s the only thing standing between him and veganism. Or maybe one of those weird vegans who eat fish occasionally.

“My big downfall is deep-dish pizza from Chicago,” Cheena told CNN’s Eatocracy. “That is why I can’t go vegan – I can’t give up cheese. I can’t give up dairy.”

Ricky Gervais

Three British stars are backing a campaign against all forms of hunting as a sport.

Ricky Gervais, Morrissey and Johnny Marr support the League Against Cruel Sports. The league is involved in bringing attention to a variety of hunting involving animals, including bullfighting, dog fighting, greyhound racing and the snaring of animals like foxes and rabbits.

The league is often involved with investigating illegal hunts, campaigning on the legislative level and running sanctuaries designed to protect wildlife in heavily hunted areas.

“Animals are not around just for people to abuse and kill in the name of so-called entertainment and sport, Gervais said. “It’s beyond belief that it actually happens and that certain deluded people get enjoyment from it. I support the League and its campaigns to try and stop cruel sports.”

James Cromwell Narrates “Farm To Fridge” (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, February 10th, 2011 in Actors, Animal Issues, Food & Drink, Videos.

James Cromwell

Actor James Cromwell has lent his voice to a new film produced by animal rights group Mercy For Animals, Farm To Fridge.

The film gives viewers an inside look at farms where animals are raised for food. Although brief–only 12 minutes in length–Farm To Fridge is able to examine the cruelty involved in a variety of animal agriculture, including beef, pork, egg, dairy, poultry and seafood.

MFA used footage it obtained from undercover investigations. This is the same group that uncovered the cruelty that took place at the Ohio dairy farm, Conklin, where a worker was charged with 12 counts of animal cruelty after seen punching, stomping and beating cows on tape.

“James was our first choice to narrate the film,” MFA Founder and Executive Director Nathan Runkle told VegNews in an interview. “In addition to being an Academy Award-nominee and seasoned actor, he is an ethical vegan, a dedicated, sincere, and passionate animal-rights advocate, and has an incredibly impactful voice. We approached James about this project and he eagerly jumped on board. We are so thrilled and grateful to be partnering with him.”

Eric Roberts Stars In Joanne Rose “Vegan 101” Series

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 7th, 2011 in Actors, Film & TV, Food & Drink.

Eric Roberts

Actor Eric Roberts (The Dark Knight, The Expendables) will star in the second season of a comedy series created by vegan and animal rights activist Joanne Rose that is meant to poke fun of the ups and downs of the lifestyle, Vegan 101.

Like a comical veg version of “The Dr. Oz Show,” Roberts will play Dr. Eaton Wright, a physician who goes vegan and promotes it on his television show, “Eating Right,” using “risque and oddball antics.”

Rose said of Roberts, “[He] is an incredibly talented actor whose passion for the vegan lifestyle and animal rights was the ultimate choice for the second season. I am very excited to have Eric on board.”

“People love to laugh and be entertained. It’s a way of educating others about veganism through unconventional ways. I hope the word “vegan” becomes a strong part of global vocabulary, which will inspire others to learn about the lifestyle through curiosity and fascination. With entertainment, people won’t shun away.”
