NPR Feature On Americans Eating Less Meat

Dr. Ray Fabius, chief medical officer for Truven Health Analytics, tells NPR’s The Salt, “American culture has been a meat-and-potatoes culture for a very long time.”

“Now we’re in a period of believing that intake of meat should be reduced in this country; we’re talking about a generational transition.”

Rob Thomas and Marisol Thomas

Rob Thomas and his wife Marisol have donated over a quarter of a million dollars to an animal shelter in Puerto Rico.

Pet’s Alive, received the donation in two parts: $125,000 from the Thomases personally and $225,000 from their charitable organization, the Sidewalk Angels Foundation.

“We were doing rescue there remotely,” said Marisol. “And we realized there was really a need there. I wanted to see a real change happen on the island.”

Michaels said he was inspired to create the collection out of love for his own pets.

“In life, they bring me a certain peace of mind,” Michaels said. “There’s a sense of unconditional love I get from my dogs – or, as crazy as it sounds, my rats – being around me.”

Woody Harrelson and Jessica Chastain have been named Sexiest Vegetarians of the Year by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals in an online poll where fans of the animal rights group voted.

According to PETA, the average vegetarian saves 100 animals a year and Harrelson and Chastain have saved at least 4,500 with their combined 45 years of living meatless.
