Jose Andres “60 Minutes” With Anderson Cooper Reveals Meat Is Boring

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 5th, 2010 in Chefs, Food & Drink.

Bravo's First "A-List Awards" - Show

Jose Andres is not a breast man.

In fact, given the choice between a good chicken bosom and pineapple, he’d choose the fruit.

Anderson Cooper recently profiled Andres on 60 Minutes, where Andres revealed vegetables turn him on and meat is boring.

After all the erotic food talk, Cooper admitted even he was getting turned on.

“Come on, think about it for a second, okay?” Andres said. “Let’s compare a chicken breast, the best chicken breast from the best farm with a beautiful pineapple. Cut the pineapple, already the aromas are inundating the entire kitchen. Acidity. Sour after notes, touches of passion fruit.”

“Well, meat to me, it’s slightly boring. Hold on, I love meat too but only once in a while. You get a piece of meat and you put it in your mouth, you chew, the first five seconds, all the juices flow around your mouth, they’re gone, and then you are 20 more seconds chewing something that is tasteless at this point. Something like this doesn’t happen with a pineapple, an asparagus, or a green pea.”

Andres owns eight restaurants in the United States and is known for his exploration of molecular gastronomy, the physical and chemicals experiences that occur during cooking.

Katie Cleary “Iron Man 2” Star Gives Good Deal To Rescue Animals

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 5th, 2010 in Actresses, Animal Issues.

Iron Man 2 World Premiere

Katie Cleary is a Chicago raised, former “Deal or No Deal” model who went on to snag spots in “Entourage,” “CSI: NY” and her latest film, Iron Man 2.

When you’re a contestant on Deal or No Deal with two cases left and they’re both worth under $5, you’ve made a bad deal turning down $100,000 two commercials ago.

Cleary thinks getting a dog from a puppy mill is a really bad deal, and she told Bleacher Report about more of her activism, which includes volunteering at the Shambala Preserve for big cats ran by actress Tippi Hedren.

“I was the award presenter three years in a row for the Genesis Awards to support animals causes in the media. I recently showed my support for various causes by protesting with some of the crew from the TV Show “Whale Wars” and got the restaurant “The Hump” shut down because they were illegally serving whale meat and turtle blood. Really disgusting people! I have also protested against most of the pet stores in LA that buy their puppies from puppy-mills where the dogs are sick and malnourished. This will soon be illegal and myself and a bunch of volunteers fight to educate the owners to go humane or shut down in our “Adopt – don’t buy” campaigns.”

Cleary runs her own amateur sanctuary at home, with two rescue dogs, two rescue cats, one rescue parrot and three rescue turtles!

Jason Mraz Turning Avocado Farm Organic

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, May 5th, 2010 in Food & Drink, Gardening, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Jason Mraz performs at the 27th annual ASCAP Pop Music Awards in Hollywood

Jason Mraz is about to turn his famous avocado farm organic.

During an interview with Hitflix, Mraz said, “The grove company has been [harvesting the groves], but we’re about to take over because we noticed over the past few years the helicopter would come by and spray the area and we’re done with that. So we’re kind of taking control and it’s been a lot of fun.”

Glad to hear it won’t be raining chemicals on the green fruit anymore.

The process of officially certifying a farm organic in the United States requires three years of no application of synthetic fertilizers, pesticides and GMOs.

Interested farmers should also take steps to ensure there won’t be any contamination from the adjacent, non-organic farm that still uses the helicopter to kill bugs.

Other requirements include the use of commercially available organic seeds not treated with prohibited synthetic materials like fungicides, and not using sewage sludge or irradiation.

It was the sewage sludge used as fertilizer that got the White House Garden’s designation officially changed from “organic” to just a regular garden.

Of course, if Jason’s not interested in an “official” status, it’s still great he and his neighbors will be using more environmentally friendly methods to grow avocados.

Pamela Anderson Dancing Activism Ends On “Dancing With The Stars”

Actress Pamela Anderson presents at the 8th Annual TV Land Awards in Los Angeles

Pamela Anderson won’t be shaking her vegetarian hips to the Salsa anymore on Dancing with the Stars.

The actress and animal rights campaigner was voted off last night, after she and partner Damien Whitewood found themselves in the bottom two for the third time in a row.

Bummer!

Pamela highlighted the very important issue of bullfighting during one of her dances earlier in the season. Contestants were asked to tell a story through their dance and Pamela’s depicted a woman torn because she was in love with a matador even though she disagreed with him killing animals.

Pamela described bullfighting as a “dance with the devil.”

As for her future plans now that she’s put away her heels and DWTS sexy outfits, Pamela told UK Ok!, “I’m doing a lot of things. I’ve got my clothing line; I’ve got my fragrance, my body care, hair care, all this organic crazy stuff I’m doing. But performance wise, I don’t know what I’m doing to do next.”

Autograph Sessions At The Dragon Con Convention in Atlanta, GA

Dirk Benedict, former star of The A-Team television show, has announced he now follows a strict macrobiotic diet.

Macrobiotic  involves eating grains as the staple of the diet, with lots of beans and vegetables and avoiding processed or refined foods.

Usually vegetarian, some macrobiotic diets are pescatarian, as they allow certain types of fish.

Benedict’s co-star on The A Team, George Peppard’s character John “Hannibal” Smith, was famous for his saying, “I love it when a plan comes together.”

You can’t make a plan come together unless you have the instructions for it.

If your plan includes macrobiotic eating, investigate these recipes before you dive into the grains!

Jennifer Aniston films a one-on-one scene with co-star Nicole Kidman for their upcoming film Just Go With It in Maui

Ok! Magazine reports that Jennifer Aniston went on a raw food cleanse before heading to Hawaii to film her latest movie, Just Go With It.

Proponents of a raw food diet swear that it allows your body to absorb nutrients that are normally destroyed if the food is heated higher than 118 degrees Fahrenheit.

However, a dietitian from the American Dietetic Association says this is nothing but “nonsense” and that cooking makes foods easier to digest.

Another study suggests a long term raw foods diet may cause unhealthy amounts of weight loss.

Even if you’re a health nut, eating is still done for pleasure as much as it is nutrients, so enjoying raw foods sometimes can still be a tasty experience.

Try Ok!’s suggestions for smoothies with watermelon chunks and almond milk or a salad made from pureed “dandelion greens, spinach and arugula.”

Then heat  up some tomato soup the next day.

Like any eating experience, it’s all about the moderation!
