Amber Tamblyn Had Calling For Pork Chops, Bacon

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, April 7th, 2009 in Actresses, Food & Drink, Not So Vegetarian.

God Of Carnage Broadway Opening - Arrivals And Curtain Call

What if God were one of us? Just a slob like one of us? Eating too many pork chops like one of us?

Remember Joan of Arcadia? The television series starring Amber Tamblyn, in which God regularly spoke to a teenage girl in person, sending her on adventures that seemed ridiculous, but in the end served a good purpose?

God took on the form of some pretty interesting people, including janitors and a Goth teenage boy with black lipstick and multiple piercings.

Perhaps to get more in touch with a “purer” side, Tamblyn tried going vegan while filming episodes of Joan. Like Joan of Arcadia, her vegan diet was later cancelled, as well as her vegetarian one.

From USAtoday.com:

“I was vegetarian for about three years. And then I wanted to try to be vegan when I was on Joan of Arcadia. I like pork chops, delicious pork chops! I love bacon. It’s delicious.”

What’s worst is that when the journalist questioned her ordering bacon and eggs during the interview, she rolled her eyes at the mention of reports that she was vegetarian.

We’re betting if Amber walked into the fake meat section of the grocery store, she’d find plenty of pork and bacon substitutes to satisfy her carnal urges.

Perhaps she’d even find a “special” stock boy working there explaining how she can change a life by buying the Lightlife Smart Bacon.

Missy Higgins’ fans know who she is!

During a recent conversation on the missyhiggins.org forum, one fan wanted to know where Missy got her wickedly delicious guitar strap shown here.

Much talk went on about the origins of the strap, including the theory it came from a vintage porn shop. Don’t ask us how they arrived at that one. We won’t go there.

One fan offers some insight into the materials in the strap:

“Based on what the strap looks like, I think your best bet is some sort of cotton/nylon strap with what normally would be leather or suede ends, but the vegan in her probably opposes any cow hide for the strap.”

Woohoo! Missy has taught her fans well, as they’re well schooled on her principles when it comes to animal products.

If you’re a guitar player, you can rock out vegan style with straps at couchguitarstraps.com.

Bob Barker Shares Priceless Memories With Animal Legal Defense Fund

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, April 7th, 2009 in Animal Issues, TV Hosts, Videos.

Bob Barker recently spoke with Director Stephen Wells of the Animal Legal Defense Fund about his new book, Priceless Memories, which is a memoir of his love of animals throughout his personal and professional career.

Bob brought along a friend, a rescue dog named Jessie. Jessie decides to take a snooze halfway into the conversation, but don’t let that fool ya. It’s not boring!

Bob discusses his DJ&T Foundation, which subsidizes the costs of spaying and neutering pets. The foundation was named after his wife and mother, Dorothy Jo and Tillie, two good women that helped turn him around to animal compassion.

KROQ Almost Acoustic Xmas - Day 1

We’re really, really bad about birthdays. Ditto for anniversaries.

So while we’re a little late welcoming AFI and their bassist Hunter Burgan to our family of Twitter followers, it’s better late than never.

And we didn’t have to offer him a vegan burrito to join us.

Hunter is the Vegan Ambassador for Macbeth Vegan shoes, which he has said includes duties of, “creating new and better vegan foreign policy.” Last we checked, he was off to convince the Turkish ambassador to Chile to make chili with tofu instead of turkey.

Hunter tweets a lot. So much he won a Shorty Award, which goes to high achievers who can express themselves in 140 characters of less.

So pay him a visit on his blog at  Tranquilmammoth.com or follow his tweets @Tranquilmammoth.

Robert Pattinson Can Bite PETA’s Microwave Vegan Cookbook

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, April 6th, 2009 in Actors, Recipes, Videos.

2009 Vanity Fair Oscar Party Hosted By Graydon Carter - Arrivals

The microwave has come a long way. It’s hard to imagine anyone not using one.

But Robert Pattinson has a fairly new relationship with the microwave and the passion between the two is more steamy than removing the plastic film from the frozen dinner tray after it’s cooked.

Pattinson recently mentioned in an interview with GQ that he’s never owned a microwave until he moved to LA. Now that he’s got one, his desires are in overdrive and he’s always looking for new things to nuke.

PETA caught wind of this and are sending him their very own cookbook,  PETA’s Vegan College Cookbook: 275 Easy, Cheap, and Delicious Recipes to Keep You Vegan at School

The cookbook doesn’t officially come out until May. But here’s a lovely infomercial that’ll have you whipping out your credit card at 3:00 AM after watching the one for the Time Life 80s collection.

Now, Rob should have no problem finding something to pop in the box every night. With recipes like Fake Blondes, Pimp My Ramen Noodles, Butt Ugly Sticky Blonds, and Campus Streaker Sausage Dip, we expect Rob and the microwave to be going strong for a while.

Spike TVs 2008 Scream Awards - Arrivals

Singer Billy Corgan and former drummer Jimmy Chamberlin of the Smashing Pumpkins have reunited. But only to speak out against Kentucky Fried Chicken.

The two musicians have become the latest celebrities to sign the petition against KFC due to the manner in which the company treats its chickens before and during slaughter.

Crammed cages with no room to move around, beaks cut off baby birds, and being held upside down with their throats slits are just a few of the ways PETA says KFC inhumanely raises and kills birds that later show up on the menu.

Jimmy recently announced his departure from the band, leaving Billy the last man standing.

The two follow the footsteps of many celebrities that have chosen to speak out against KFC, including Pamela Anderson, Rise Against, and Russell Simmons

Dimora Disses Dennis Kucinich Vegan Diet

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, April 6th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Not So Vegetarian, Politicians.

24th Annual Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony - Arrivals

Dimora disses Dennis diet…say it fast five times.

Dennis Kucinich attended a recent Democratic party fundraiser and dinner in Cayahoga County, Ohio where he became the target for a joke by County Commissioner and party chairman Jimmy Dimora.

When Dennis’ vegan food prepared for him at the dinner was brought up, Dimora advised him to “take it home with him” and joked, “I don’t want anyone getting sick from that.”

This isn’t the first time, Kucinich’s diet has been poked fun of. Ever heard of the tan moderate political party? They eat hummus, pasta, and other “tan” foods.

No hard feelings, as Kucinich still gave a speech which praised the local chairman.

Earlier we showed you the video of Paramore’s Hayley Williams and Twilight’s Robert Pattinson talking about veggie burgers, and Robert was taken aback when Hayley mentioned “Gardenburger.”

We wondered if Hayley was veg…

One really cool reader, Allie gave us a tip (thanks) on a video showing the Paramore band eating cheeseburgers, including Hayley. Another really cool reader, Chuck, mentioned that a Gardenburger with cheese looks like a real burger.

So you be the judge. Is Hayley eating the regular cow or is she chowing down on veggie goodness?

The band could very well be at a burger joint that offers the veggie variety, as many do.

What do you think? Speak now or she’ll forever remain in carnivore limbo!
