A recent study has estimated that 1 in 200 children are vegetarians. The kid who brings the tofu sandwich that no one wants to trade with is getting company and there’s a good chance he’ll have someone to swap for seitan at school.

There are many children of celebrities who have made news because of their diet, or perhaps more so because of their parents strongly insisting on their vegetarian diet.

Heather Mills made headlines last year when she reportedly gave an eight page letter of requirements for her daughter Bea’s food regime while vacationing with ex Paul McCartney.

Mills’ strong spirit to instill the veg lifestyle in her own child has been extended to her helping other children, donating time and money to impoverished kids and their families, helping them access and learn to cook meatless dishes.

Madonna put it in writing as well, but legally, when she required ex husband Guy to only serve the children organic, macrobiotic vegan food.

With news such as the U.S. Government’s estimate and high profile celebrities making their children’s diet public, more parents may consider sending more carrots and yogurt to school with their child, versus a Lunchable and fruit roll ups.

When Will Smith’s Seven Pounds came out, there was a lot of talk about the vegan themes present throughout the movie, leading you to believe someone involved with the production was a vegetarian or vegan.

There’s no guessing vegetarians were at the center of one British drama that aired for almost a decade. Judge John Deed was the longest running BBC legal drama, debuting in 2001 and concluding in 2007, when actor Martin Shaw became involved with another television program.

“Judge John Deed” is a vegetarian, played by a vegetarian-Martin Shaw. The show was written by G.F. Newman, a vegan writer and producer who also had a hand in the Law and Order Dramas.

Newman, like Shaw, has been outspoken about his beliefs and insists that no meat is eaten on the sets when he is producing or directing shows.

Joan Rivers recently took a charity trip to China where she fears she may have eaten canine meat.

“You say to them, ‘Is this dog? Just tell me,’ and they say, ‘No, no, no…’ (but) I know I ate dog.”

“I love dogs; I have three rescue dogs – you hate to eat what you love.”

The easiest way to avoid eating what you love is to avoid eating meat altogether. She was in China, after all, where she could have easily asked for a platter of tofu, rice, and veggies.

Health fads come and go, some healthy, some dangerous. And some downright disgusting.

Luke Cummo, Ultimate Fighting Competitor, practices “urine recycling.”

If you’ve already had lunch, you might want to read this post later. If you haven’t had lunch yet, hey, we might save you some money today.

Urine recycling is simply drinking one’s own urine. It supposedly brings out the champion better than any Wheaties could.

In L. Jon Werthem’s new book, Blood in the Cage: Mixed Martial Arts, Pat Miletich, and the Furious Rise of the UFC, Cummo is quoted as saying:

“I drink my own urine. I had my last meal last night and then I continually drink my urine. Eventually when I poop—you know, when I do No.2—all that comes out is urine. Then I know my digestive system is completely empty.”

In the old days, Luke would fancy up his urine a bit, giving it a Starbucks speciality drink quality by adding condiments.

“At first I used to put some honey in it, heat it up and drink it like a tea. But now I just drink it fresh. That’s when it’s most delicious.”

Cummo, who has been experimenting with a raw vegan diet for almost a decade, like others who practice the alternative medicinal therapy, does so because he believes it provides health benefits.

No one said anything about breath benefits.

When non veg celebs have word wars with veg ones, things can get ugly.

The latest heated debate is between Liam Neeson and several celebrities often involved with animal rights causes, like Chrissie Hynde and Alec Baldwin.

Hynde, Baldwin, and others have launched a protest against the horse-drawn carriage industry in New York, claiming the horses are mistreated, due to the long trips they make pulling heavy loads, cold and frigid weather conditions, and everyday spooks that are encountered from traffic.

Liam thinks all this is nonsense and equates the horse stables to the Hilton, in more or less words.

“Seriously. If you’ve ever seen these stables… I’d move in tomorrow,” he said.

A comment like this obviously angered PETA officials, who responded by saying:

“Liam, maybe you’re right, let me ponder this for a moment… It does seem like horses would prefer to endure the freezing cold and the panicky booms, noisy traffic, and exhaust fumes of the city over living in a lush pasture.”

“And you’re right, they probably much prefer the whips, shouting, heavy gear, traces, and lack of water in the troughs as well as the long shifts trudging for hours and pulling strangers in a half-mile circle all day without rest over living a natural life. Makes sense, right?”

There are documented cases of accidents and injury, both to the horse and human, in the industry. Has anyone out there had extensive experience with the horse drawn carriage industry? Back to the whole vegetarian thing. Between him and Oh, Joe who did, that leaves only two veg men standing-Patrick Stump and Andy Hurley.

Sigh…It would have been fun watching little Bronx grow up loving his seitan and veggies.
