Moby Stays Out Late, Wakes Up In Time To Blast Greedy Musicians

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, August 14th, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

2002 MTV Video Music Awards - Rehearsals

While a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle can dramatically improve your health, you still won’t be able to party all night and get away with it forever, according to Moby anyway.

“My lifestyle isn’t quite as healthy as people might imagine it to be,” he said in an interview with The Daily Record.

“I am a vegan, but I also tend to go out too much and stay out too late, especially as I live in New York.”

“I’m certainly not getting up at six in the morning to do yoga – I’m usually just getting home at that time.”

The interview centered on Moby’s thoughts of the music industry’s greediness and why musicians really should be making records.

He said: “A lot of my friends in the music industry have conversations about how to distribute music – and it tends to centre on how to make money.”

“I think the focus should be on the artistry and creativity, not focusing on the commercial side of things. Musicians should concentrate on making records and not be too concerned about how people listen. The point of producing music isn’t whether audiences will buy it or listen to it for free. I might be naive, but I think, if you make a good record, people will want to listen regardless of the medium it’s delivered by.”

Marcus Patrick Reduces Gym Time With Vegan Diet

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, August 14th, 2008 in Actors, Male Musicians, Male Singers, Models.

Marcus Patrick sat down with Skope magazine and gave the lowdown on many things including his diet, Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse, and how someone who doesn’t exactly have his six pack looks can get a wonderful woman.

Stoli: You keep yourself in great shape. Can you offer a glimpse into your gym & diet routine?

Marcus: I am a vegan. I don’t eat flesh or Dairy. This has helped me so much with staying lean. There is So little saturated fat in a vegan Diet that I can afford to only hit the gym Once a Week. But I do run track twice a week.

Stoli: In America, it seems as though the public thrives off of negative behavior displayed by Britney, Amy Winehouse, or Bobby Brown. How do you look at all that and does that influence you at all?

Marcus: I live My life free, I dance, I train people, I act, I sing. I simply treat others with respect and hope they do the same to me. It’s odd that society rewards all the disfunctional behavior with attention and contracts.

Stoli: For the average joe out there with not much game, can you offer some advice how he can get a hot chick to go out with him?

Marcus: Get his shit together! Work out, eat healthy, get a job, get educated. Bring something to the table for a woman. Let her know you can be there for her if she’s in need. A lazy guy has nothing to offer.

Russell Simmons Demanding Risotto Everywhere In New York

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, August 14th, 2008 in Authors, Business, Food & Drink, Restaurants.

Lokah Music Presents The Release Of

Not long ago, we brought you the news of Russell Simmons asking the chef at Nick and Tony’s Restaurant in New York to make his risotto vegan.

We are guessing risotto is one of this yoga loving hip hop mogul’s favorites as we have read that another New York restaurant made changes to their menu in order to please him.

The Waverly Inn’s chef John DeLucie makes quinoa risotto with green curry sauce as a result of a request from Mr. Simmons.

We’ve never had the pleasure of spotting Mr. Simmons live in action (yet), but we definitely are taking notes in case we’re ever awarded the prize of having lunch or dinner with him.

Carl Lewis Among Olympic Vegetarian Stars

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, August 13th, 2008 in Athletes-Games-Sports.

UT: Gibson Guitar And Entertainment Tonight Celebrity Hospitality Lodge Wednesday

We hope everyone is enjoying the Olympics. Or maybe you are just waiting for them to finish so all of your other television programs can return to normal. Whatever your personal case is, you have to at least enjoy our little history lesson on former Olympic athletes who were vegetarian and vegan.

There have been many Olympic athletes who didn’t use meat to get there, including sprinter Leroy Burrell, hurdler Edwin Moses, figure skater Charlene Wong, wrestler Chris Campbell, runner Paavo Nurmi, figure skater Surya Bonaly, race walker Debbie Lawrence, discus thrower Al Oerter, and sprinting champion Carl Lewis. Lewis won 10 Olympic medals in his career from 1979-1996, 9 of which were gold.

Lewis’ inspiration to become vegan was partially from a meet and greet with famous veggie doctor, Dr. John McDougall.

“The first was Jay Cordich, the Juice Man, whom I met at the Houston radio station where I worked in the early morning. He was there to talk about his juicer, which makes fresh juice from fruits and vegetables. He said that drinking at least sixteen ounces of freshly squeezed juice each day will increase a person’s energy, strengthen the immune system, and reduce the risk of disease. A few weeks later while doing publicity for a meet in Minneapolis, I met Dr. John McDougall, a medical doctor who teaches about the link between good nutrition and good health and was promoting his latest book. Dr. McDougall challenged me to make a commitment to eating a vegetarian diet and then to just do it.”

Bridgitte Bardot Travels to Romania to Save Street Dogs

Brigitte Bardot has held a long career as an actress and former fashion model in addition to being a champion of animal rights.

She recently wrote a letter to Mr. Hubert Heiss, Ambassador of Austria in France, in response to the imprisonment of Austrian animal rights activist. Here are a few excerpts:

“You are aware of the great emotion, even indignation, of European citizens after the arbitrary arrest on May 21, when 10 Austrian animal advocates were imprisoned in an opacity worthy of a totalitarian regime.”

“Austrian organizations were scandalized by the violence of the police intervention and the seizure, in private apartments and offices, of many work files and computers.”

“These methods, unworthy of a democratic country, made Amnesty International react, and today I make a point of adding my voice to the many protests.”

“It is true that for a few months already animals advocates have been presented like dangerous terrorists, even criminals. This manipulation of public opinion is shocking, outrageous and more than misplaced.”

“Yes, our actions do disturb some economic interests, but is that a reason to soil and muzzle those who are committed to help beings without defense?”

“Violence is not our reality, on the contrary, we fight it with determination. Violence is in the blind, cruel and daily exploitation of millions of animals degraded to consumer goods, to research tools, and being denied their sensitive nature.”

Kevin Nealon’s Chickpea Vegetarian Taco Recipe

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 in Actors, Comedians, Recipes.

Premiere Of Showtimes

Rachel Ray and Emeril better be watching their backs. Kevin Nealon might be waiting for them, ready to attack with his carrot sticks as he apparently knows how to cook a mean chickpea taco. There’s a recipe on Nutrition MD attributed to the Saturday Night Live and Weeds actor.

He once made fun of meat eaters by saying:

“I can’t wait for meal time when I can chow down on the decomposing corpse of a tortured animal. I like knowing that eating meat makes me four times more likely to have a heart attack or stroke.”

Kevin Nealon’s Chickpea Tacos

1 small onion, chopped
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 celery stalk, chopped
1 green bell pepper, seeded and chopped
1 15-ounce can chickpeas, drained
3 – 5 tablespoons salsa
1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1 dash cayenne pepper, or to taste
8 – 10 taco shells

In large saute pan, heat oil over medium heat.

Cook onion, celery, and green pepper until softened. Add chickpeas, salsa, cumin, and chili powder. Stir and cook until warmed. Mash chickpeas slightly with a fork for better texture.

Fill shells evenly with mixture from saute pan. If desired, top with any of the following: chopped tomatoes, shredded soy or rice cheese, low-fat guacamole, shredded lettuce, hot sauce, or salsa.

Stella McCartney Not Into Furry Breasts At All

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, August 12th, 2008 in Fashion, Fur.

British Fashion Awards - Arrivals

She may be smiling here, but that wasn’t case when she saw a very offensive ad containing one of her designer bras.

Stella McCartney, designer of vegan fashion and daughter of Beatles great Sir Paul McCartney, was absolutely horrified to see an ad for Hockley with a model wearing one of her bras and a mink coat.

Strict vegetarian just like dear old dad, she designs cruelty free clothing and is also helping with the revitalization of her late mother, Linda McCartney’s food line.

Stella was obviously furious.

“It goes against everything I stand for,” she told a source.

A little bit of anger and a little bit of threatening with legal action resulted in the ad being pulled.

And who wears their bra showing underneath their coat anyway? Sigh…
