Leona Lewis chose chef Aldo Zilli to cater 4 dates at the O2 arena on her current tour where all employees are banned from eating meat.

The chef who’s worked with stars like Freddie Mercury, Paul McCartney and George Michael says he’s introducing foods like spelt, barley and quinoa to give Leona energy on stage.

Zilli is a chef who has not only embraced the concept of Meat-Free Mondays, but has decided to make every day vegetarian in one of his restaurants he converted to veggie, Zilli Green, in the Soho district of London. Zilli Green offers vegetarian breakfasts, main courses like Cous Cous & Soya Burger with Pickled Cucumber, Avocado, Mustard Dressed Mixed Leaves, Homemade Mayo & Ketchup, Thin Chips and vegan desserts like the dairy free Tiramasu or the Organic Tofu & Limoncello Cheesecake.

Aldo Zilli’s Vegetarian “Zilli Green” Best Green Restaurant

Shrove Tuesday At Capital Gold

Aldo Zilli has taken best restaurant in The Independent‘s Best of Green awards.

Signor Zilli was converted into a vegetarian Italian restaurant in London, Zilli Green, a few months ago.

Although the UK Metro came up short with nice things to say about it, The Independent says Zilli Green wins for featuring multi-cultural seasonal dishes and avoiding the stereotypical vegetarian entrees like veggie burgers.

Bonus: The head chef at Zilli Green, Enzo di Marino, has been a vegan for 12 years, so he’s had plenty of experience sampling anything served to you.

Aldo Zilli‘s vegetarian Italian restaurant, Zilli Green, open a couple of months ago and after Metro sampled the food, atmosphere and service, it came up a little less than satisfied.

Zilli Green was given a (ouch) 1 out of 5 stars for everything from cold tempura and portabello mushroom to ignorant service.

Metro hints that you can get vegetarian Italian food anywhere that serves Italian, presumably by leaving the meatballs off.

“Some of the best meat-free cooking in the world is Italian; you can easily eat an entirely vegetarian meal in a conventional Italian restaurant without even being aware of it.”

Zilli Green may be a little shaker in its infancy, but it is only two months old, and like any business, there’s probably several details to work out.

Not only is Zilli Green giving London a vegetarian Italian option, but there are several items on the menu listed as vegan, such as ice cream.

And despite having pasta shops on every corner, some specifically vegetarian and even vegan Italian eateries have worked, as the case with Chrissie Hynde‘s Vegiterranean in the U.S.

Might it be reasonable for more Soho vegetarians to give Zilli Green a try and let the staff politely know where improvements can be made?

Celebrity Chefs Launch Taste Of London 2007

Aldo Zilli is opening his new vegetarian Italian restaurant, Zilli Green, next weekend in Soho in London.

Zilli says it was none other than Meat-Free Monday man Paul McCartney himself who encouraged him to change the food on his menu and on his own plate.

From News Of The World:

“A few years ago, Paul wrote to me about the amount of meat I had on the menus at my London restaurants,” Zilli said. “He felt we didn’t need to offer exotic meats, such as ostrich. I had to agree.”

“Creating vegetarian Italian dishes was a challenge. But it’s a good move in a society where vegetarianism is now common place.”

Zilli Green is set to open this weekend on Valentine’s Day.

Take your sweetie there to celebrate love, good food and good health.

First chef Aldo Zilli warned about processed meat, now he’s throwing the entire rump roast out the door.

Hooray!

Zilli has announced he’s relaunching his Signor Zilli restaurant as a vegetarian concept restaurant, according to Catersearch.

Every item on the menu at the all new Zilli Green will be meat and sea-food free.

Zilli came up with the idea after he appeared in the reality TV show Celebrity Fit Club.

“The program inspired me to alter the focus of my cooking with new ingredients and different patterns of eating,” he said.

The menu will feature a blend of Asian and Italian cuisines with items such as seared tofu, miso soup and smoked mozzarella.

Paul McCartney has been caught enjoying dinner made especially to suit to his dietary needs at Signor Zilli.

Now he and other plant lovers can walk into Zilli Green and browse an entire menu made exclusively for them.

Zilli Green opens February 14.
