Quantcast Vegetarian Starvegetarian singers (12)

“Stolen for Fashion”—Learn More at PETA.org.
It’s almost blasphemous to say it’s a “cute” ad, because obviously there’s nothing cute about killing an animal for its pelt.

But in this new cute PETA ad starring Ricky Gervais and singer Pink, at least the animals lived through it to fight back.

Gervais plays the rabbit who snatches his fur coat back from a man, and Pink the alligator who claims a purse a woman is holding made from her skin. No word if she gave the cash back inside it or not.

Pink is already a vegetarian and Ricky has been toying with the idea of it, feeling uncomfortable eating meat that still looks like an animal. What do you think? Is this video a step towards Ricky living the vida vega?

Paul McCartney is giving the thumbs up to the Vegetarian Society for using his late wife Linda’s recipes in its new cooking classes.

“It’s fabulous to see a course inspired by Linda and her recipes, which will in turn, hopefully, inspire cooks of the future,” McCartney said. “Those of us in her family are very proud that the Vegetarian Society has chosen to honour Linda in this way.”

The Cordon Vert School is located in the headquarters of the Vegetarian Society in London.

The curriculum will be officially launched later this month, and the actual courses will be offered in May, August, and October.

Linda McCartney was a longtime vegetarian and activist who inspired Paul to become one. She published vegetarian cookbooks and started her own line of frozen vegetarian foods, which was recently revamped with help from the McCartney family.

What Would Beth Ditto Do? Go Vegetarian!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, March 6th, 2009 in Female Singers.

Incheon Pentaport Rock Festival 2008 - Day 2

Beth Ditto wrote an advice column for The Guardian, What Would Beth Ditto Do, when she wasn’t busy singing and rocking on stage with her band The Gossip.

Last year, she gave advice to someone who had just gone vegetarian and was running into obstacles:

“Congratulations on your decision. It is really admirable and, in the difficult world we live in, anything that takes us towards a higher consciousness helps. When my younger sister became a vegetarian, she ran into obstacles too, so you’re definitely not alone. If you practise some willpower and use the tips below to assert yourself clearly, I have no doubt that you will succeed.”

Looks like Beth may be taking her own advice, as she went veg a couple of weeks ago, according to WWD.com.

“For the Ricci show, the singer wore one of her favorite frocks by Charles Anastase. “It’s a sketch of a snake being eaten by a weasel,” said Ditto – who turned vegetarian two weeks ago – of its illustration.”

Is the sisterly love for animals taking over her or is it just in the genes?

Congrats to Beth on her decision and we can’t wait to hear how it goes!

Michael Jackson Requested Vegetarian Sandwiches At O2 In London

Michael Jackson Announces Plans For Summer Residency At The O2 Arena

The King of Pop, Michael Jackson, was in London recently to announce his comeback to music.

The  singer who produced some of the world’s best selling records, such as Off The Wall, Thriller, and Bad requested vegetarian sandwiches and mineral water backstage

While the 50-year old said, “I’ve still got what it takes. I’ll prove everyone wrong,” he hinted at a near retirement as he also added, “These will be my final show performances in London. This will be it. When I say, ‘This is it’, I really mean, ‘This is it’.”

“I’ll be performing the songs my fans want to hear, this is it, I mean that this is the final curtain call, OK?”

Fifty years old is like 80 for some in the performing industry due to the grueling lifestyle, but could a vegetarian diet be what kept Jacko so youthful all these years? (Okay, okay, and a good deal of plastic surgery).

Still, going under the knife doesn’t do anything for your energy levels like munching on lean, plant based protein and cramming the plate with complex carbs from veggies.

Ah, yeah. Who’s Bad!

Brigitte Bardot Wants Obama’s Seal Of Approval

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 23rd, 2009 in Actresses, Animal Issues.

Bridgitte Bardot Travels to Romania to Save Street Dogs

Brigitte Bardot, longtime vegetarian and animal activist and actress, is asking for U.S. President Barack Obama’s help in preventing the death of seals every season during Canada’s annual seal hunt.

Bardot said she has “immense hope” in Obama, “even if I know that he is in demand from all directions and he already has a lot to do in his own country.”

The timing of her letter writing coincided with Obama’s recent visit to Canada.

Several other celebrities have spoken in opposition to the hunt, such as Canadian natives Pamela Anderson and Bryan Adams, and most recently Nigel Barker documenting the lives of the animals before they are clubbed, in his film, A Sealed Fate.

Last year, the quota for clubbed seals was 275,000. After being killed, the seals are skinned for their pelts, which are later sold.

The United States has banned all Canadian seal products since 1972 and the European Union is considering a similar ban.
