And her recipe for cole slaw features luscious green cabbage smothered with the eggless, vegan mayonnaise.

Cole slaw can be traced to several ancient societies and different varieties were prepared by both Romans and Dutch.

When most of us think of bean dip, we usually think of pinto beans. But when Food Network’s Giada de Laurentiis makes bean dip, she uses an Italian kidney bean called cannellini.

These beans are whipped into a puree in the food processor to resemble thick mashed potatoes and then seasoned with salt and pepper.

After many years of rebellion, it looks like Padma Lakshmi may be returning to the vegetarian roots she grew up with. The Top Chef Masters judge has recently revealed she’s eating a lacto-vegetarian diet and intends to bring her baby up the same way.

If you have a love for Indian food, you don’t have to be a Top Chef to whip something up that meatless, and even dairy-free and egg-free, as much of the food in this cuisine is already based on many legumes like beans.

“Masterchef” Puts Vegetarian Chef Ahead Of Competition

Reality TV has a way of giving the vegetarian the shaft. And not the juicy, nutritious celery kind either.

Often, the contestant has to choose between continuing to compete or eating meat, cooking meat or gets lambasted by judges, competitors and blogs for cooking meatless dishes.

This season, BBC’s Masterchef tells a different story. One of the four finalists in the competition is known for her vegetarian dishes and Mastechef’s co-presenter Greg Wallace is impressed.
