What evidence exists that more and more people are reducing their meat intake?

At least 18% of Americans are implementing Meatless Mondays in their diets.

More corporations are putting vegetarians entrees in the cafeteria.

Even the Facebook guy won’t “Like” anything he didn’t kill himself.

And when Emeril Lagasse‘s fans pick a portobello mushroom veggie burger as the second best burger in the Viewer’s Choice Burger Bonanza, you know less beef is going in America’s shopping baskets.

Emeril stopped by Good Morning America to discuss his winning burgers and provided the recipe for his Portobella Mushroom Burgers with Garlic Mayonnaise.

The best thing about homemade veggie burgers is they can easily be made vegan if needed. Emeril’s original recipe calls for 1 egg in the garlic mayonnaise, but it can easily be omitted from your vegan version of garlic mayonnaise, made with an egg-free whipped mayo like Nasoya or Vegenaise.

These mushroom burgers are heavy on the avocado, onions, peppers and spinach but light on the carbon footprint, saturated fat and animal cruelty.

Grab the recipe here and watch the video below for a super delicious looking sneak preview of what your next veggie burger experience could be.
