“Dear Prudence” Slams Grandma’s Beef With Vegans

What advice would you give to an overly concerned grandmother who, against mom’s wishes, feeds her grandchild a Happy Meal and thinks tofu over ground beef is cause for a call to the Child Protection authorities?

“Dear Prudence”, a regular feature at Slate, is suggesting granny take her Centrum Silver and any other supplements that help the elderly think because “lack of ham and Swiss doesn’t rise to the same level of concern as beating and molestation” and “probably half the children in Berkeley, Calif. would be removed from their homes if this constituted child abuse.”

A video of Bill Gates praising the efforts of companies that create plant-based alternatives to animal products has been uploaded to YouTube.

According to Gates, the rise of faux meat and dairy products is “quite a phenomenal thing.”

“So all these companies that are taking these animal products — the milk, the eggs, the chicken, the beef — and actually coming up with a way using largely plant-based material to make these things that are both cheaper, probably more healthy, less cruelty involved, less greenhouse gas emissions.”

Mary Whipple is a champion coxswain who’s scored both a Gold and Silver medal in previous Olympic games. Dotsie Bausch is a seven-time U.S. National bike racer who says, “It makes no sense to me that anything would have to undergo one second of suffering so that I could enjoy it.”

The Olympic team hopefuls shared a pre and post workout snack they might enjoy as part of preparing for the July 2012 games.
