Heather Mills Hosts Healthy Meal Cook-A-Thon with students in The Bronx

Heather Mills has been racking up the frequent flier miles taking trips from London to the U.S. and back.

According to the UK Daily Mail, Heather is interested in building a vegan food factory in the Bronx to help bring jobs to the impoverished area in which she is promoting her vegan charity with Hunts Point Alliance.

Heather has already donated a million dollars worth of vegan food and given vegan cooking lessons to families in the area.

We’ve been hearing lots of rumors on Heather’s vegan food factory from where it might be located to the brand name of the products to what ingredients she’ll be using.

Nothing is definite yet, but one thing’s for sure: we’re tired of waiting!

James Cromwell Went The Whole Hog Going Vegetarian

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, February 19th, 2009 in Actors, Environment-Eco-Green, Food & Drink, Videos.

James Cromwell recently attended a screening of Fuel, a film about America’s dependency on oil and the need for alternative energy sources.

The Green Girls caught up with James during the screening to ask what lifestyle changes he had made to go “green.”

“I made a lifestyle change in 1975 when I became a vegetarian, and in ’94 when I became a vegan,” Cromwell said.

“If everybody would do that, we’d save a lot of water, a lot of land use, a lot wasted energy bringing protein to people through animals, a lot of suffering and a lot of greenhouse gases.”

“If people [would] just [cut out meat for] one meal a week, and then one day a week, and then maybe one week a year, they could make an incredible difference.”

Cromwell showed his humorous side when asked if he went “cold turkey” in going vegetarian.

“I went the whole hog,” he joked.

Cromwell sees going vegetarian as a “choice” rather than a “decision” because when you make decisions, it becomes an either/or situation and you “leave things out that are important,” rather than educating yourself on what makes a balanced veg diet and how to incorporate different foods into it.

Watch the video to hear the rest of the interview with James.

Warning: there is a creepy flashback of the early 90s Wayne’s World movie when The Green Girls play their musical slogan at the end of the video.

Tropic Thunder premiere

Vegan actress Alicia Silverstone is starring in “Time Stands Still,” a play by Pulitzer Prize winning playwright, Donald Margulies that’s playing at the Geffen Playhouse

“Time Stands Still” is about a photographer and reporter couple trying to regain a sense of normalcy after the photographer is injured in Iraq. Silverstone plays a friend of the couple.

The Geffen Playhouse in Los Angeles is surrounded by many vegetarian restaurants in the Westwood Village, like Native Foods

In addition, it has teamed up with California organic, sustainable vineyards for wine-tasting on Sundays, beginning on February 15.

Good thing, since Alicia is a committed vegan who most definitely needs to grab something delicious during the intermission.

Farm Sanctuary Gala 2004

“It was because of my wife. I was a guy who was compassionate to animals but not particularly involved in anything. I never wanted to be a vegetarian – I always thought vegetarians were hippies with too much free time. And then when I met my now wife and we started dating, she just opened my eyes to factory farming and a lot of stuff I’d never heard of.”

Chrissie Hynde And McDonald’s: She’s Not Lovin’ It!

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, February 18th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Female Musicians, Female Singers.

McDonalds-PETA

Perhaps one of the most vocal celebrity activist, singer Chrissie Hynde, joined in a protest against McDonald’s this week as part of PETA’s relaunching of their McCruelty campaign.

It’s been almost a decade since PETA spoke with McDonald’s, the fast food establishment that promised to treat its chickens better before slaughter. Since nothing has changed, PETA is going after them again.

Unlike modern methods of killing, which involved giving chickens a gas to put them to sleep, McDonald’s still slaughters chickens while being conscious and able to feel pain.

Chrissie held up her “McCruelty: I’m Hatin’ It” sign while PETA’s vice president Dan Matthew held her up.

“What happens if you fall and [hurt] yourself?” a security guard asked.

“Then I won’t be able to do my show tomorrow,” The Pretenders singer replied.

Hynde once said she pledged to remain on the earth until all McDonald’s had burned to the ground.
