Paul McCartney has voiced his support for a campaign to end the sale of cosmetics in the European Union that have been tested on animals.

The EU has already banned cosmetic testing on animals. And the ban to sale such cosmetics was originally scheduled to take place in 2013, but some officials want the ban delayed.

McCartney and other celebrities are using the British Union for the Abolition of Vivisection’s (BUAV) campaign in hopes of convincing officials to adhere to the timeline.

“Animals should not suffer in the name of beauty,” McCartney said. “Testing toiletries and cosmetics on animals is cruel and unnecessary. Join me in signing the BUAV’s petition to ensure the sale of cruel products in the EU is outlawed by 2013. Say NO to Cruel Cosmetics.”

Travis Fran Healy

“Trying to change the world is a one-way ticket to a sore head. You just need to try to be a good human being. And if by dong that, you inadvertently change the world, then great. Try to be a decent person, it’s the easiest thing you can do. If everyone did that, we’d all be cool. We’d feel like we were living in a utopia.”

Fran Healy, singer and song-writer for the Britpop band Travis. In late 2010, Healy released a solo album, Wreckorder, which featured Paul McCartney. As a thank you to McCartney for collaborating with him on the album, Healy went vegetarian. An interview with Healy on his new veg lifestyle and music career can be found in the March 2011 issue of Vegetarian Times.

Actress Emma Stone had Paul McCartney design a matching tattoo for her and her mother to celebrate her mother’s recovery from breast cancer.

While she and Woody Harrelson were at McCartney’s home dining on veggie burgers, Stone asked McCartney to draw a tiny Blackbird, symbolizing the famous McCartney song that’s a favorite by both Emma and her mother.

The Easy A actress, who described the veggie burgers as “so good,” recently appeared on The Late Show and told David Letterman the decision to decorate her body was the first–and probably the last.

“We’ve never gotten tattoos before and probably never will again. Two years ago tomorrow she got diagnosed with breast cancer, and she’s out of the woods now, which is amazing. I wrote a letter to Paul McCartney asking him if he would draw two little bird feet – because he wrote the song – and yesterday he sent them to me.”

Just a reminder that continuing to eat those veggie burgers and soy products, as opposed to animal fat laden real ones, may one day spur your recovery from breast cancer. A study recently published in the Canadian Medical Journal found women who suffered from hormone sensitive cancers and were post-menopausal had a significantly lower risk of breast cancer recurrence if they consumed lots of soy isoflavones.

The clip of Stone with Letterman can be viewed below.
