Moby, George Bush And Jesus Break Veggies Together

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, March 31st, 2010 in Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

24th Genesis Awards - Arrivals

So Moby, George Bush and Jesus are all over at Moby’s house sitting in the living room and George gets hungry.

There really is no punchline to this, just a fantasy of the bald vegan musician he told to Rachael Ray, when he revealed his kitchen is stocked full of condiments and vitamins.

“You know, I think it would be nice to have George Bush and Jesus over for dinner,” Moby said.

What would he serve for the two leaders?

“Well, George spent a lot of time in Texas, so I’d make some rice and beans and salsa, maybe some guacamole,” Moby said. “I’m not a particularly good cook, but I can make reasonably palatable bachelor food.”

Moby’s Mexican fare may need a few miracles before it’s palatable, but it would definitely answer some scholars question of whether Jesus was a vegetarian.

Moby Can’t Cook But Doesn’t Have To

3rd Annual Art Of Elysium Heaven Gala Event - Arrivals

Moby has been a vegan for 20 years, but is bashful about proclaiming himself as a great vegan chef.

He told the Milwaukee Wisconsin Sentinel Journal, “I’m a terrible cook, so I usually eat out with friends.”

Sounds like vegan men aren’t any different from meat eaters after all when it comes to the kitchen.

Could it be the only decent meal Moby can make is his vegan blueberry pancakes?

Thankfully, if you’re not a great cook either, there are dozens of ready made vegetarian and vegan meals that require the simple skill of manipulating the microwave buttons.

A visit to the frozen aisle of the grocery store can stock your freezer with simple vegetarian meals like burritos or old fashioned macaroni and cheese to ethnic dishes containing samosas and dahl to fake meat and potatoes.

Those ramen noodles you used to make with chicken during the after school hours?

They now come flavored with miso.

Of course, when you’re ready to become Julia Child (who at one point couldn’t understand why anyone would want to be vegetarian) these lists for the top 10 vegetarian and top 10 vegan cookbooks will help get you started.

The Cinema Society & Hugo Boss Screening of Inglourious Basterds - Arrivals

Audrey Kitching whipped up some vegan blueberry pancakes and washed them down with green tea.

It’s getting colder in some parts of the world, and a great to motivate yourself to get out of bed when it’s 13 degrees outside is to wake up to warm fluffy goodness.

Vegans can choose a dairyless butter like Earth Balance and use egg replacements like Ener-G.

Moby Balances Healthy And Junk Vegan Food

McCartney Family Launch Meat Free Monday - Photocall

Nothing like combining a cold glass of soy milk, fresh fruit, high protein nuts and a bag of potato chips.

Moby discussed the task of balancing eating healthy with eating junk food.

“When I’m on tour, I definitely eat a lot of comfort foods. Part of it is because you never know when you’re going to eat well again. So if you have the opportunity to eat well, you’re going to eat as much as possible.”

“At home, it’s that balance between vegan junk food and really healthy food. It’s like every now and then, lunch will consist of vegan tacos and then steamed broccoli and keen-wa (Quinoa) . I mean, they’re both relatively healthy, but…”

Moby’s favorite vegan junk foods are vegan tempura or onion rings.

What’s your favorite vegetarian junk to balance with an otherwise healthy diet of tempeh, brown rice and tomato soup?

Moby Easy Vegan In Mexico City: Mas Frijoles, Menos Manteca

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, October 7th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Premiere Of "Is Anybody There?" - After Party

Moby arrived in Mexico City as part of his recent tour and said la comida is bueno!

“just arrived in mexico city. and just had tortillas y frijoles negros y guacamole. see, it’s easy to be vegan in mexico. well, as long as they don’t get crazy with the manteca.”

Yes, when in Mexico, pile on the heart healthy and fiber filled black beans on the tortillas with plenty of salsa and good for you fat avocado.

Just say “no, gracias” to the manteca, which is fat, many times lard in Mexican dishes.

If you can’t make it to Mexico City, you can at least make it to your grocer’s freezer, where you’ll find several frozen Amy’s Mexican entrees like Burritos and Wraps, or Black Bean Enchilada and Black Bean Tamale Verde.

20th Anniversary Genesis Awards - Press Room

Awhile back, Moby wondered if zombies would eat vegans, after one was captured escaping a car.

Now, we know the answer, thanks to cartoonist Dan Piraro.

Zombies are vegans.

Dan tweeted this lovely little Haiku poem that explains zombies go for the grains.

The vegan zombie

Cares not for sweet grey matter

They cry out for “grains.””

Always nice to get things resolved.

Poetry is a beautiful gift to give someone for a birthday or anniversary.

Poetry about tacos…strange, but still beautiful.

Today is Moby‘s birthday, and he took to his journal to brag about what he received for his 44th, which included a vegan cassoulet (something normally made from sausages and pig fat) and a poem about tacos.

“everyone should receive a poem about tacos on their birthday. but then taco poems might not be so unique. and, for the record again, the poem was about literal tacos involving taco shells, beans, lettuce, hot sauce, and possibly seitan (wheat gluten, not the flesh of the devil).”

Vegan Cassoulet sounds savory-navy beans in a broth of mushrooms with added seasonings of parsley, rosemary and thyme, among others.

Check out the recipe we found for Vegan Cassoulet, after the jump.
