Finally, we can get that annoying Aqua song out of our heads and replace, “Life in plastic, it’s fantastic,” with “I Love Rock and Roll.”

Mattel is unveiling a new line of Barbie dolls in their Barbie Ladies of the 80s collection this winter.

Vegetarian rocker Joan Jett can be purchased now online and will be available in December of this year.

Barbie has been criticized for having a negative affect on girls’ self esteem, but we can’t think of a better role model than Barbie Joan Jett.

Not only does she practice healthy eating habits by choosing to keep meat off her plate,  she’s given her face and time to pro vegetarian campaigns and animal welfare organizations like Farm Sanctuary.

Now all Barbie Joan Jett needs is a sports car that runs on veggie oil and solar panels on her dream home.

Inked Magazine, headquarters for all your tattooed news and needs, is featuring Joan Jett as part of their Inked For a Cause section.

Joan spills all the details on the social causes that are most important to her, and gives props to her favorite charity, Farm Sanctuary.

“There is a personal tie because I love animals, and feel a connection with them. I became aware of Farm Sanctuary’s work and wanted to help. Farm Sanctuary has 2 farms where they bring the animals they rescue. One is in upstate New York and one is in California. I just went to visit overnight in New York, and it was an incredible experience! I met my namesake, Joan the pig! I really enjoyed meeting all the animals. I highly recommend the experience!”

When asked what particular way she wants to encourage Inked readers to live, Joan responded:

“To become vegetarian, or vegan. I am vegetarian, I have fluctuated between the two, but my goal is to be vegan. It helps the animals and the earth.”

Since when has the world experienced a new female rock phenomena?

Chrissie Hynde? Poly Styrene? Joan Jett and the Blackhearts? Kathleen Hanna and Bikini Kill?

Girl in a Coma may be the next grrrls to rock our world!

The all vegetarian rock band from San Antonio, Texas is signed to Joan Jett’s record label, Blackheart Records, and has toured with both Joan and Morrissey.

Bet the catering situation for both tours wasn’t too hard to figure out!

You can catch Girl in a Coma in San Fransisco tonight at 9PM at Bottom of the Hill.

In the meantime, here’s a bit from a chat they had with San Fransisco Music Examiner Jamie Freedman.

On touring with Morrissey:
Other than super awesome? It was surreal. We idolize Moz (Morrissey’s nickname from the fans). The tour taught us a lot about how to open for a larger band, it was like Moz boot camp. We were really intimidated since his fans tend to be really intelligent about music. We also got to eat some really kickass vegetarian food.

On politics:
It just so happens that we have a lot to stand for: we are vegetarians, we are a band with two lesbians, we stand up for things, we are happy to help out and we are happy to ask for help when we need it.

Farm Sanctuary

Joan Jett recently made a field trip to Farm Sanctuary where she not only cuddled with the famous Joan Jett pig, but rubbed elbows (or maybe snouts?) with other animals like Jerry Lee pictured here.

Joan’s not only a supporter of Farm Sanctuary and animal activist, but a longtime vegetarian as well.

The folks of Farm Sanctuary know a picture’s worth a thousand words, and they’ve included several illustrating Joan’s compassion and ability to bond with animals.

“During her visit, Joan got to meet her namesake, the fabulous Joan Jett pig and pitch in with farm tasks like moving the main cattle herd to a different pasture so they could enjoy grazing on new lush green grass, and feeding scratch mix out to flocks of super excited chickens. She also, of course, got to just hang out and play with all the animals, and I was thrilled to see how very comfortable she was with all of them – no matter how big or how small. Joan was an absolute natural with the animals and, of course, extremely cool to hang out with too.”

Joan Jett was spotted sporting her Farm Sanctuary T-shirt!

Noticeably missing from Joan’s side was her pig companion, but still, he was with her in spirit!

Farm Sanctuary strives to reduce or eliminate everything uncool about animal welfare,  and campaigns cover such issues as promoting and getting Prop 2 passed, ending the production of foie gras, and getting people to stop having dairy hookups.

Kristen Stewart will portray veggie singer and musician Joan Jett in the upcoming film, The Runaways, which portrays Joan’s life and the 70s band she fronted.

And you thought the dark mullet was just a fashion change for the actress who’ll be starring in New Moon, the sequel to Twilight this fall.

Looks like Kristen will be playing a vegetarian again.

Although technically Joan became a vegetarian after the Runaways, she’s been quite active with promoting the lifestyle, whether it’s recording PSAs, visiting farm sanctuaries, or casually mentioning her diet in interviews.

In Twilight, Kristen played vegetarian Bella, the love interest of vegetarian vampire Edward Cullen, who was seen enjoying Garden Burgers with her dad at the local diner in Forks, Washington. She even once told  him he should try one sometime instead of his usual steak.

Coincidence? A “Twilight” moment?
