In what will hopefully set a precedent to what will take place in states with similar pending legislation, a bill that would criminalize undercover investigators who obtain photographic evidence of animal cruelty on farms was not passed before the Florida legislative session ended.

Dubbed “gag-ag” bills, these attempts to silence what goes on in farms across the U.S. could cost human lives in addition to allowing animals to continue to be harmed.

Kaley Cuoco

Kaley Cuoco

“The Big Bang Theory” actress Kaley Cuoco turned a painful experience into one that benefits the Humane Society of the United States.

Cuoco fell off her horse, which resulted in her being hospitalized with an open compound leg fracture. Ouch!

While her boyfriend, Christopher French of the group Annie Automatic, was at her bedside, she asked him to play a song to cheer her up. The two later recorded “Somewhere Over The Rainbow” together as a duet.

“Kaley and I are happy to be able to help draw attention to the important issue of animal adoption and rescue and raise a little money, 99¢ at a time,” said French.

The song is available from both iTunes and Amazon.com’s MP3 downloads and all proceeds benefit the HSUS. You can also view the two singing below.

Duff Goldman

Duff Goldman, star of Food Network’s “Ace of Cakes,” has made the announcement that he’s switching to cage-free eggs for his company, Charm City Cakes.

Goldman joins fellow celebrity chef Guy Fieri and dozens of national retailers and franchises like Quizno’s and Denny’s to source eggs from farms that don’t confine hens in cages so small, they aren’t even able to spread their wings. Cage-free hens have 2-3 times more space than caged hens.

“Charm City Cakes is pleased to have switched to only using cage-free eggs, which is a great way to improve animal welfare and meet our customers’ expectations for being socially responsible,” said Duff.

Just days after banning crush videos, President Obama has signed the Truth in Fur Labeling Act (H.R. 2480), which made its final route through Congress in the Senate earlier this month.

The new law closes the loophole in an already existing law that allows real fur to go unlabelled as such if the garment is worth $150 or less.
