Method Man: Dis Iz 4 All My Vegan Smokers (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Male Singers, Videos.

Speaking of hip hop music that Natalie Portman enjoys…She’s sure to like this one cause it talks about not eating meat.

Remember when we told you about Method Man‘s song Dis Iz 4 All My Smokers that has the vegan reference to it?

Here’s a little video and the song.

The vegan verse begins around minute 2:20.

Catchy song, but hey, all that smoke can’t be good for you, regardless of your vegetarian diet. Chill, Method.

Carrie Underwood Sandwich: A Meaty Misspelling

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009 in Business, Female Singers, Food & Drink, Restaurants.

Carrie Underwood and her dog Ace at Los Angeles airport

There’s an eatery called Belles Cafe in Willinston, Vermont that has a sandwich named after Carrie Underwood.

There are two problems with this.

Her name is spelled “Carry” in the sandwich title and it is maheeeatay, as a fan on carriefans.com found out.

“I went to my local deli and bakery called Belles Cafe yesterday with my cousin and we were looking at the menu and she yells “omg I bet you are getting the Carrie Underwood.” i didn’t know what she was talking about so I look up at the menu and they have a sandwich called Carrie Underwood. And then my cousin yells “obviously they didn’t do any research before creating her sandwich.” They spelt her name “Carry” and her sandwich had meat on it. I was mad because I wanted to get it, but being a vegetarian myself I couldn’t. I was still excited though because it was so random.”

We’ve seen this before.

Natalie Portman‘s lobster salad.

Prince Fielder‘s meaty pizza made in honor of his accomplishments.

But hey, we won’t complain too much.

At least those guys got their names spelled right.

No harsh feelings to Cafe Belles, of course.

We’re just hoping they modify the Carrie sandwich.

Chris Noth “Sex And The City” Big Went Vegetarian To Get Small

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009 in Actors, Food & Drink.

Mr Big (AKA Chris Noth) on the set of Sex and the City 2 in NYC

Chris Noth, the actor who plays Sarah Jessica Parker‘s (Carrie Bradshaw) husband Big on Sex and the City, took a retreat to Brazil for a wholistic weight loss experience to slim down for Sex and the City 2.

“I went to a place called the Island Experience in Brazil on Ilha Grande. It’s two hours drive from Rio and 40 minutes by boat,” Noth told Usmagazine.com. “It was a total vegetarian diet. Basically, you spend all day doing yoga, hiking, kayaking, eating vegetarian food, no coffee, no alcohol, no meat.”

Awesome!

Great to see an actor promoting a healthy weight loss plan that includes a plant based diet versus pills.

Don’t even get us started on those Quick Trim Kardashians.

Maybe Chris will continue his veg diet now that he sees how great he can feel and look.

Besides, according to vegan chef Christina Pirello, vegetables make sex so much better.

Isabel Lucas Backs Out Like A Baby From “Rights Revoked”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009 in Actresses, Animal Issues, Film & TV.

The Cove Special New York Screening

Isabel Lucas has pulled out of an animal rights documentary titled Rights Revoked, after not being able to get along with her co-star Elissa Sursara.

Wow.

It’s like save the whales, but you can’t use my markers to make your poster.

According to bscreview.com:

“The 24-year-old booming actress cites brewing on-set tensions and personal discomfort for her decision, while Sursara remains on board for the project, something fans of Lucas’ congratulate her for. Said one comment on a News.com.au subsite, ‘I commend Elissa for sticking to her passion for animals and not backing out like a baby.’”

If there’s any reason to get up in the morning to look at someone you don’t like, it’s definitely a higher purpose like animal welfare.

The Transformers star insists she is ensuring the document will be successful, as having many “anger” and “messy emotions” will get in the way of the production.

Zooey Deschanel, Ben Gibbard Marrying In September

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009 in Couples, Food & Drink.

2009 Maui Film Festival - Day 2

We love veggie couples.

That’s why we’re overjoyed to hear that vegan Zooey Deschanel and vegetarian Ben Gibbard are expected to tie the knot this month.

From Page Six:

“A spy at the Bar Method ballet studio in Los Angeles says, “Zooey is in Belfast with James Franco and Natalie Portman” — filming Your Highness — “but will return at the end of September for her ceremony in Seattle.””

With Zooey and her sister Emily being vegan, and both Ben and his Death Cab For Cutie band mate Chris Walla being vegetarian, you know the reception will be filled with abundant veg food and may even be completely vegan.

Vegetarian and vegan weddings may be harder to plan if you have meat eating guests, but that’s no reason to back down. It’s your day, after all!

Lea Michele “Glee” Star: “Buck Cruelty” To Horse Drawn Carriages

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009 in Actresses, Animal Issues.

Lea_Michele_Spring_Awakening

Lea Michele is hitting all the right notes with this PSA for PETA against horse drawn carriages, Buck Cruelty.

You may recognize Lea from the new Fox hit television show, Glee, but she’s no stranger to acting, as she has several credits on Broadway, including the musical, Spring Awakening.

According to the Coalition To Ban Horse Drawn Carriages, these attractions aren’t good for public or animal safety, and have resulted in both people and horses getting injured.

And horses sustain joint injuries and other medical problems as a result of pounding the street pavement for long hours in adverse weather conditions.

Sounds like a Broadway show no one would want to attend.

Erykah Badu - Atlanta Concert

Celebrities are great for promoting your product.

Eh, as long as they don’t do anything too outrageous, or are caught by TMZ doing the outrageous act.

Celebrities are even better for giving food products the boost, and vegan food is no different.

A recent article at CNN touches on celebrity foodies and opens up with none other than vegan ice cream company Wheeler’s Frozen Ice Cream.

Owner of Wheeler’s, Chef Wheeler del Torro, discusses how shipping his goodies to Erykah Badu got him some exposure.

“Teaming up with someone like [Erykah] is something that is definitely good for outreach to vegans and non-vegans, because she has such mass appeal,” he said.

One of Wheeler’s custom ice creams, a $7,000 champagne flavor made with vintage Dom Perignon and sprinkled gold flakes has become popular among some rappers as well.

Vintage Dom Perignon and gold flakes?

That’s some serious vegan bling.

Wheeler is also the author of a vegan ice cream cookbook, The Vegan Scoop.

Audrey Kitching Can Still Roll With It: Vegan Sushi Ideas

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 15th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Models, Recipes.

Dita Von Teese Cointreau Teese Launch Party and Performance held at The Avalon in Hollywood, CA

Audrey Kitching revealed what foods she is crazy about in a recent interview.

“I am obsessed with Mexican food. I could eat it every single meal..oh and sushi! I am a Vegan right now. No dairy no meat no fish. It is hard but I feel great so it is well worth it.”

From her comment, it almost sounds as if Audrey had to give up one of her favorite foods to become vegan.

But anyone who rolls the Nori knows, there’s no raw fish (or cooked for that matter) required to get your sushi high.

Seasoned tempeh, tofu, or plain vegetables make the experience just as good and don’t deplete the oceans of marine wildlife.

The vegan punks in the kitchen have kindly offered their advice on making vegan sushi, along with a few recipes of vegan goodies to replace fish.

Let’s roll with it.
