Morrissey Stella McCartney Shoe Line

Stella McCartney Switches On Store Christmas Lights

The gossip sites must have a shoe fetish this month.

Not long ago, a rumor was going around the web that Stella McCartney and Leona Lewis were collaborating to create a vegan shoe line.

The story smelled worse than sweaty feet and proved to be false.

Now, the word is that Morrissey and Stella are collaborating to create a leather free shoe.

“I’m working with Morrissey on a line of leather-free shoes which I’m really excited about,” McCartney told Mail Online. “We are still in the early stages, but the shoes could be launched next year.”

One would think if Morrissey were involved in this project, Stella would be designing men’s shoes, which would make vegan men around the world rejoice.

But judging from the track record of previous shoe stories from the tabloids…

We’ll believe it when we see it.

In the meantime, check out some athletic, casual and formal male vegan shoes available at alternativeoutfitters.com.

Alicia Silverstone was a guest speaker at the 2009 Boston Book Festival.

As expected, Alicia discussed her debut diet and cookbook, The Kind Diet.

Some might wonder how a vegan diet might change their life.

Alicia had a lot to say about what being vegan “doesn’t” do for you.

“You don’t wake up exhausted. And you don’t need coffee to get through the day. And you don’t keep getting sick and needing anti-biotics. And after a meal, you don’t feel like you needs Tums…”

Tobey Maguire “Brothers” Role Meant Eating Less Vegan

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, November 29th, 2009 in Actors, Food & Drink.

The Cinema Society Screening Of "Brothers" - Arrivals

This Friday, vegan Natalie Portman and almost vegan Tobey Maguire will star alongside each other in Brothers, a story about a woman who runs to the arms of her husband’s brother after she thinks he’s killed in Afghanistan.

Tobey, who plays Capt. Sam Cahill, had to prepare for the role by both learning what Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is from veterans and slimming down 25 pounds to look like an emaciated prisoner of war.

Director Jim Sheridan joked to sfgate.com that Maguire didn’t have any problem “dieting” for the role because, “He is a vegan, so as far as I am concerned he doesn’t eat anyway.”

Huh?

Sheridan must believe the old myth that vegans munch on granola and drink unsweetened papaya juice all day.

Tell that to the contestants and past winners of the Veggie Hot Dog Eating Contest, who put down approximately 1500 veg hot dogs in the name of pure indulgence.

The contest, created by iLoveMikeLitt, offers prizes to individuals and teams that can eat the most vegetarian hot dogs in 12 minutes.

As one competitor, Colin Kalmbacher said, “What is more Austin than a bunch of vegans, vegetarians, and omnivores, all alongside each other, gorging themselves on hundreds of soy dogs for the sheer insanity of it?”

“They’re a great group of people who are super passionate about animal welfare. From inhumane transportation to factory farming, there are many important issues people need to be educated about. I don’t understand why an animal’s spirit – its life – is so undervalued. There are other ways to do things.”

Abbie said she’s “passionate about animal welfare,” and has been a vegetarian since age 13.

Woody Harrelson 40 Day Detox

Written by Vegetarian Star on Sunday, November 29th, 2009 in Actors, Food & Drink, Nutrition-Health-Fitness.

Premiere of The Messenger

Woody Harrelson recently went on a 40 day detox that consisted of drinking only liquids.

“I went 22 days only having fruit juice, the rest of the time water,” Woody said.

“Also, I haven’t spoken a single word for most of the time. But it was totally worth it. Previously, I felt physically and spiritually blocked. Now I feel great.”

Skipping the heavy meal and going for a lighter snack of fruits and nuts is one thing, juicing for a day is another, but 40 days of detoxing?

Sounds faintish just thinking about it.

Original MTV Real World and VH1 Confessions of a Teen Idol star Eric Nies tried fasting to draw attention to world hunger, but did all the wrong things at first and ending up feeling dizzy and losing muscle before consulting with a friend who recommended energy drinks from fruit juice.

Guess the bottom line is, it’s always best to check with the doc before trying anything so drastic.

Have you fasted before and what were the results?

Still enjoying the leftovers from Thanksgiving?

Glee star Jenna Ushkowitz more than likely enjoyed a Tofurky loaf she told JustJared.com her mom planned to make.

Besides making homemade stuffing, Jenna said her family usually goes to Disney World and eats at the Grand Floridian.

Maybe she’ll pick up some of Minnie Mouse’s antibiotic and hormone free eggs.

As far as making the vegetarian switch, Jenna said, “I’d always wanted to do it. I am trying to have a smaller carbon footprint.”

It’s a small footprint after all. It’s a small footprint after all.

Celebrity chefs who show the vegan love are always welcome in the kitchen!

Wolfgang Puck and Ellen DeGeneres got together to make a vegan pizza piled high with local vegetables from a farmer’s market.

Puck is a regular at the farmer’s market and Ellen said that it’s “important to support farmer’s markets” while Puck added “local farmers are really the best,” while getting cheers from the crowd.

Besides supporting local economy and getting fresher ingredients, think of all the fuel you help save by not picking up produce that crosses more lines than rings in an onion.

Watch Ellen and Puck create pizza that’s not only vegetarian, but vegan.
