Everyone’s favorite vegan girl, Alicia Silverstone, recently sat down with Health magazine where she discussed her upcoming vegan diet book, A Kind Diet, as well as her vegan lifestyle in general.

Here are a few excerpts:

On The Kind Diet Book:
“I’m excited about presenting something that can make you feel amazing and look your best. Once you’re informed, then you can be really gentle and kind to yourself, by giving yourself all the gifts life has to offer—like mental clarity and vitality—all while making the planet better”

The Role A Vegan Diet Played in her weightloss:
“Diet first, exercise second. Exercise is fantastic, and when I need to be a certain way quickly, I amp up my exercise by walking the dogs and doing yoga.”

How The Right Foods Make You “Juicy”:
You can hear your needs and desires more clearly. You’re just more juicy—there’s just this lightness that happens.

Alicia Silverstone isn’t the only vegetarian lady who can design an eco-friendly makeup bag.

Lauren Bush, who gave us the pleasure of the lovely interview months ago, has teamed up with Bobbi Brown to bring you the FEED Makeup Bag.

In partnership with the United Nations World Food Program, the $50 organic makeup bag with be available in October from BobbiBrown.com and Bloomingdales.com.

Inside the bags will be three of Bobbi Brown’s best selling lip glosses, but here’s the catch: You might have to throw them out!

Bobbi Brown cosmetics does not test on animals, according to a call made to the company. However, they are not completely animal-free in every formula, although the company tries to avoid animal products and by-products whenever possible.

Keeping in her charitable spirit, Lauren ensured that each FEED bag sold supports 10 women in the U.N.’s Food for Work Program, which provides meals to disadvantaged women who participate in job-training programs.

Lauren, the niece of former U.S.  president George W. Bush, has been designing FEED bags since 2006, and the collection includes a reusable shopping bag.

2009 Annual Military Parade at the Champs Elysees - Paris

France’s first lady, Carla Bruni-Sarkozy, recently showed her compassionate side by revealing she refuses to wear fur.

Now hubby president Nicolas Sarkozy is appearing to show support for animals and the environment, supporting a ban on bluefin tuna fishing, wanting to add the fish to the Convention In International Trade on Endangered Species.

However, appearances can be deceiving.

It seems Sarkozy’s ban has more to do with helping people fish more in the future than it does to save the fishes.

At the national stakeholder consultation on the future of France’s fisheries, Sarkozy said, “Ours is the last generation with the ability to take action before it’s too late – we must protect marine resources now, in order to fish better in future. We owe this to fishermen, and we owe it to future generations.”

Several notable people, including vegan actress and activist Alicia Silverstone, as well as some British celebrities, have spoken against bluefin tuna being served in restaurants due to the fact it’s an endangered species.

They’ve had good work done by Los Angeles based celebrity makeup artist Kerry Malouf, who’ll be a regular contributor to beautynewsnyc.com.

Malouf is a vegetarian who uses beauty products not tested on animals and that contain natural and organic products whenever possible.

It’s a no brainer that vegan activists like Ginnifer Goodwin and Alicia Silverstone love an artist who practices good beauty ethos, but the fact Malouf’s CV includes stars who aren’t veg is incredible.

“I believe that true beauty comes from the inside out, so what you put inside your body reflects on the outside, with makeup and clothing enhancing the outside with color and fabrics making daily life a little more fun,” Malouf said.

Eddie Lama was a construction worker from New York who couldn’t have cared 2 cents about animals.

Then, he met a cat and fell in love.

Now, he’s a passionate advocate for animals and his story can be seen in The Witness, an award winning documentary that will air this Sunday, June 28 at 10 pm and July 26 at 8 pm on various Florida television stations, including WEDU+ Channel 3.4, Comcast Channel 203, Verizon Fios Channel 476, and Bright House Channel 605.

Vegan and animal rights activist Alicia Silverstone said, “Eddie’s story is about changing your life, taking a stand for those who can’t and being true to what is right—whether it’s on behalf of animals or any other cause. It’s a call to all of us to do something, to make a difference. In a cynical world, that is something we can’t be reminded of enough.”

Alicia Silverstone Vegetarian Ad Targets El Paso, Texas

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, June 24th, 2009 in Actresses.

After Men’s Fitness magazine named El Paso, Texas as one of the fattest cities, PETA decided to do some “target advertising” and is showing an Alicia Silverstone vegetarian PSA in a TV ad campaign in the city.

You know, the one where Alicia’s emerging from the swimming pool, au naturel.

“I’m Alicia Silverstone, and I’m a vegetarian,” Silverstone says and goes on to explain how the diet has changed her life and given her more energy.

The ad is currently airing in El Paso this week on KVIA-TV (ABC).

“The Sun City’s love affair with meat is making its residents fat — and could literally be killing them,” says PETA Executive Vice President Tracy Reiman. “If the good people of El Paso want to shed their ‘saddlebags’ and get on the road to good health, the best thing that they can do is go vegetarian.”

While El Paso is one of the fattest cities on the Men’s Fitness list, the number one spot went to Miami, Florida. Salt Lake City, Utah took the fittest.
