Quantcast Vegetarian StarAnthony Bourdain

Vegetarian loathing Anthony Bourdain may have found plant-based mecca.

The chef and host of Parts Unknown traveled to Punjab, India for the show’s premiere and sampled fare that is considered standard for the majority of the population.

And much of it did not contain meat.

Anthony Bourdain took his CNN food show Parts Unknown to the Middle East to take part in the dishes that have made up the rich culture for centuries.

He spoke with food writer and cookbook author Yotam Ottolenghi about the origins of Middle Eastern falafel.

Anthony Bourdain Wolf Blitzer

Anthony Bourdain chatted with CNN’s Wolf Blitzer before giving his final appearance on his North American “Guts and Glory” tour.

Over the years the chef who once said vegetarians and vegans were a “persistent irritant” to any chef worth a damn has proved to be an ally to those of us who at least want to see less processed food and big farm meat.

Hey, even his wife became a vegan for a few days.

During his interview, Bourdain made a few (albeit still sarcastic) comments dennouncing several practices that suggest he could even join Ottavia for a vegan meal or two.

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, February 5th, 2013 in Chefs, Film & TV, Food & Drink, Reality TV.

The Taste

After it’s premiere last week, it appears that The Taste is treating vegans like many other reality cooking shows–avoiding them like vegetarians avoid the vegetable soup with chicken broth.

LA Weekly discussed whether or not veganism will have a strong place in this season’s episodes.

The judges may have their reservations, but the show’s producer is hopeful.

Here are a few quotes made on the influence of the vegan chefs:

After being served a dish from one contestant:
Anthony Bourdain: “I suspect vegetarianism.”
Ludo Lefebvre: “Oh uh oh.”
Brian Malarkey: “I need meat cooked on my team.”
Nigella Lawson: “I’m confused.”

Meatless Mouthful–Anthony Bourdain On Disagreeing Fans

Anthony Bourdain "Medium Raw"

“I have a lot of fans in predominantly Muslim countries like Malaysia, where my preoccupation with pork surely did not go down well. I have a lot of vegetarian fans, and it’s a constant surprise and delight to me that they find me entertaining, considering my dubious view of their lifestyles.”

Anthony Bourdain, on fans that do not necessarily agree with him. Yes, most vegans can forgive the comment that they are a “persistent irritant to any chef worth a damn” after learning that he actually believes meat isn’t necessary, some of Paula Deen‘s food isn’t fit for even a rodent, and places like McDonald’s are some of the scariest around.

Anthony Bourdain “Get Jiro” Puts Vegans In Sushi Crime World

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, June 27th, 2012 in Books, Chefs, Food & Drink.

Get Jiro Anthoony Bourdain

Anthony Bourdain has teamed up with novelist Joel Rose and illustrator Langdon Foss to create a graphic comic that tells the story of sushi chefs gone bad.

If the idea of those who chop seaweed and tofu being violent crime lords makes you laugh, you will roll on the floor after reading this line from the publisher’s description.

“In a not-too-distant future L.A. where master chefs rule the town like crime lords and people literally kill for a seat at the best restaurants, a bloody culinary war is raging.”

Get Jiro pits two teams, The Internationalists–known for preparing foods from all over the world, against Vertical Farm–a team of chefs who only prepare vegetarian, macrobiotic dishes.

Since Bourdain is known for his animosity towards vegetarians, Get Jiro is sure to piss them off, especially given the fact that Jiro is a “ruthless sushi chef” known to “decapitate patrons who dare request a California Roll, or who stir wasabi into their soy sauce.”
