So all the vegetarians and vegans were enjoying what they thought were veg-friendly Frappacinos made with soy milk. But now news has surfaced that the Strawberries and Cream Frappucinos and Strawberry Smoothies they consumed were made to look pink with cochineal extract, a dye made from female cochineal insects.

Yummy.

Stephen Colbert poked fun of the fact Starbucks justified the use of this product by saying it wanted to get away from artificial ingredients. Colbert may be a slow-food activist after all, as he suggests people just trying grinding up a good old fruit with the same color in soy milk.

An actual fruit.

Fresh. Unprocessed. More nutrients. Zero bugs. Maybe Colbert is onto something.

LunchHour

A new documentary that examines the relationship behind childhood obesity and The National School Lunch Program features several individuals prominent in the vegan community.

Written and co-directed by James Costa, Lunch Hour will be screened at the Palm Beach Food Festival tomorrow, Wednesday April 18, from 12:00 to 1:30 PM.

Talk radio host Robin Quivers, vegan chef Alex Jamieson and Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine’s Dr. Neal Barnard and Elizabeth Kucinich all have clips in the film and give their input on making cafeteria food healthier.

Dr. Barnard demonstrated with graduated cylinders how much fat can be eliminated from a child’s diet for each day the school serves veggie burgers.

“At most schools in America, the only choice the child gets is that and nothing else,” Dr. Barnard said, holding up the cylinder with the greatest amount of fat in it.

Courtney Stodden became an overnight teen sensation when (after obtaining mother’s permission), married a man old enough to be her grandpa.

Stodden (then 16) and actor Doug Hutchinson (51) are through shocking the world with this bizarre and perhaps gross news, so the Mrs. has decided to make more waves by filming a very seductive pro-vegetarian ad of herself and posting it on YouTube.

Now Veg Star doesn’t necessarily condone marrying someone who’s diaper you’ll be changing at the same time you change your child’s, but it’s now legal and the couple seems happy, so best of wishes to them. And as Hutchinson continues to approach the nursing home years, he’s bound to have some, um, medical problems that might affect the happy union so someone needs to inform him that veggies work as well as Viagra.

Craig Ferguson Comedian Has Vegetarian Compromise Plan (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, April 12th, 2012 in Comedians, Food & Drink, Videos.

Craig Ferguson hosted Minnesota comedian Bryan Miller who took the opportunity to make a few jokes about the vegetarian lifestyle. Miller’s wife is vegetarian. He is not. Cue the outrageous stories.

Vegetarians who live with/have close relationships with carnivores should consider Miller’s plan to open a “vegetarian compromise restaurant.”

“We’re still going to serve meat,” Miller said. “But only the parts the animals can afford to live without.”

Although he is still allowed to cook meat at home, Miller says wife insists they shop at the local co-op, paving the way for jokes about the price of goods that come with labels like fair trade.
