President’s Day Red, White And Blue Vegan Smoothie

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, February 18th, 2011 in Food & Drink, Recipes.

President’s Day is one of those sorta Happy Holidays.

Not that it’s not fun to honor George Washington. But it can also be a time of inconvenience when important offices are closed (like banks) and non-important ones stay open (like yours that you still have to report to on Monday).

Now’s the time to make a trip to the important bank and withdraw enough cash to purchase a few ingredients for a vegan, President’s Day smoothie.

"Meat is for Pussies" John Joseph

“Really the thing is to understand that this lifestyle is not a sprint, it’s a marathon. You want to make the changes that you will stay with your whole life. You know, go to the Red Bamboos out there that give you the types of food where it’s transitioning you away from the meat and dairy. If you try to go from eating meat to straight up raw food you’re not gonna last. So little by little just phase out the poisonous foods and replace them with healthy substitutes.”

Nigella Lawson Valentine’s Day Tomato Curry With Coconut Milk Rice

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 14th, 2011 in Chefs, Food & Drink, Recipes.

Nigella Lawson

Update: A reader named Leslie was able to locate the recipe. Click on link here or see comment on post. Thanks Leslie!

Nigella Lawson gave an interview with NPR to discuss all things involving love and food.

Lawson makes two suggestions for V-day dinner, one of which is vegetarian.

Interestingly enough, this dinner can be viewed as a labor of love for your sweetie, or forced labor on him/her if you make them help you chop the tomatoes, the task she considers to be the hardest.

“This would also be a lovely recipe to do if you don’t want to serve up something as if you were working in the restaurant, but wanted to have your partner with you and chatting. He or she could be chopping some tomatoes as well,” Lawson said.

Guy Fieri grew up in a vegetarian, macrobiotic home that drove him nuts.

He told People his parents cooked, “vegetarian, nondairy, whole grains, no red meat. I started cooking when I was 10 because I just couldn’t eat that stuff.”

Luckily, he’s not so turned off by vegetarian food he can still whip up something meatless and delicious. At least for his own family.

Guy said the Morgan’s Vegetarian Patty Sliders are, “named after my sister Morgan, who is a vegetarian. I created them for her.”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, February 4th, 2011 in Food & Drink, Recipes, Research + Science.

Brian Greene
Theoretical physicist Brian Greene has been making the rounds in the pop culture world promoting his latest book, The Hidden Reality, which discusses the possibility of alternate universes and parallel dimensions.

Stephen Colbert recently took a jab at Greene and Taco Bell when he hosted Greene on “The Colbert Report” and asked him if there was a universe where Taco Bell actually served real beef.

Greene, a vegan, who’s also served as science consultant for Hollywood, used his vegan lifestyle to sarcastically respond to Colbert and now, he’s using non-dairy cheese to explain his theory of multiple universes.

Greene’s work is sometimes called string theory. Is this string cheese theory?
