NY Jets Vs Philadelphia Eagles - Michael Vick plays and Jeremy Piven watches from the stands

In another attempt to redeem his image, Michael Vick will be in a reality TV show on BET, tentatively called The Michael Vick Project.

“I just want people to really get to know me as an individual,” Vick said. “What I want to do is change the perception of me. I am a human being. I’ve made some mistakes in the past, and I wish it had never happened. But it’s not about how you fall, but about how you pick yourself up.”

A great way for Vick to show he’s changed is to continually feature animal issues on the show.

Maybe give a different animal charity a shout out weekly, letting viewers know how they can support it?

Or an adopt an animal clip, with a different four legged “star” each episode.

How do you think Vick can use his reality TV show prove he’s worthy of the public’s praise?

“Dancing With The Stars” Chimp Unemployed Like Paul Abdul

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, October 8th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Reality TV.

Chimpanzee in grass, close-up

This week’s Dancing With The Stars was supposed to feature a chimpanzee as a guest judge.

However, after some efforts from Chimpanzee Sanctuary Northwest, International Primate Protection League and PETA that included writing to executive producer Conrad Green, Dancing officials decided against airing the segment.

Like Paul Abdul, the chimp judge is out of a job.

But we hear he’ll be okay.

One piece of material sent to Green was a video about Great Apes in showbusiness made by Anjelica Huston.

Anjelica was also quick to speak out after Travis the Chimp died earlier this year when law officials had to kill him as he would not stop attacking and mutilating a friend of his owner.

“I sincerely hope that this tragedy will make people realize that great apes should never be kept as pets or exploited for films, television, or advertising,” Huston said of Travis’ incident. “Their lives are miserable from the day that they are taken from their mothers: They endure abusive training—usually beatings—until they are cast off to roadside zoos or meet a violent end, as Travis did in this tragic case.”

Best of luck to the unemployed chimp judge. We know he’ll find something better than show business.

“Amazing Race” Terence Gerchberg Vegan: Walk For Farm Animals

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, October 5th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Reality TV.

Terence Gerchberg was the poor vegetarian soul on The Amazing Race who ate sheep rear during an eating challenge-only to throw it up moments later and be disgusted with the whole ordeal.

Since his stint on Amazing Race, he’s become vegan, according to The “V” Word, and made an appearance at this weekend’s Farm Sanctuary Walk For Animals.

“There was a surprise visit from Terence Gerchberg who competed on The Amazing Race last season. Gerchberg was a vegetarian who faced a challenge to eat meat for money. Today Terence is a vegan who says if ever faced with such a challenge again, he would never go against his ethics and values. Inspiring!”

Way to go Terence!

Besides Terence, Jane Velez-Mitchell gave a speech on her rescue dogs, New York State Assembly member Linda Rosenthal spoke on pets and domestic violence situations, and Shawn Sweeney from the Jane Goodall Institute shared his experiences from the Institute.

Gordon Ramsay, the man who joked he put his kids on a fence and electrocute them if they ever became vegetarian, is featuring a vegetarian challenge during one of the final episodes of Hell’s Kitchen.

This Tuesday, October 6 2009, the final four chefs will compete in a challenge to please hungry, finicky vegetarian children. The orders will come from Felix Light, a child who has portrayed the foul mouthed chef in comical videos.

From Fox:

“The final four chefs get a pep talk by a pint-sized version of Gordon Ramsay,Felix Light, and are then given the unique challenge of preparing 80 vegetarian entrees to serve to 80 hungry guests. The surprise twist is that the guests are 80 screaming and hungry kids, who don’t necessarily love vegetables! The kids get to choose the challenge winner, who will be rewarded with a fancy makeover from a Beverly Hills salon and a lunch date with Gordon at the world-famous Nobu. When dinner service begins, two contestants are pushed to the limit and fall apart on an all-new episode of Hell’s Kitchen airing Tuesday, Oct. 6 (8:00-9:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. (HK-613) (TV-14 D, L).”

Felix Light does a good job of playing “Mini Ramsay.” Watch the clip below to see Felix protest a sausage that, in his words, tastes like “dogsh*t.”

Maybe Felix would find veggie sausages more satisfying?

“The Biggest Loser” Bob Harper Loves Barbecue Popchips

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, September 30th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Reality TV.

The NBC Universal Experience

The Biggest Loser coach Bob Harper interviewed with Never Say Diet, where he revealed what a typical day of his vegetarian diet consisted of.

Bob used to have a craving for chocolate, but since saying good-bye to the artificial sweeteners, it’s all about the Popchips now.

“I freakin’ love Pop Chips!” Bob said. “They come to my house and I’m like, Nicole [his assistant] get them out of my house! The barbecue flavor is my favorite.”

“They all know that I’m a vegetarian now. I tried to keep that under wraps for a while. It’s different for everyone, but I always try to hit three basic food groups and protein is number four in my book. I’m wanting people to get their fruits, vegetables and their grains and that to me is a well-balanced diet. Yes, your body needs protein, but it doesn’t need as much protein as everybody thinks it needs. I’m just trying to get people to eat their vegetables again. I’m like everybody’s father in America right now going “eat your vegetables.” It’s so sad that in 2009, people are still scared of carbohydrates. It’s sad that people are still thinking that you’re getting fat from eating carbs.”

Kerry Katona Got No Puppy Dog Love From Us

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, September 28th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Reality TV.

Kery Katona and Mark Croft leaving home with their small puppy

Really, some people should be required to take puppy parenting classes when adopting.

British reality star Kerry Katona took her brown puppy dog back to the shop because she reportedly didn’t like the color of its fur, according to Now magazine.

Katona traded it for a black and white version of the same breed.

But wait, Katona’s had puppy commitments in the past.

During her MTV reality TV show What’s the Problem, Kerry also evicted her bulldog because it relieved itself on the floor.

Dogs require patience, persistence, and most importantly research prior to getting one to determine if its personality will click with your lifestyle.

Don’t get us started on that chihuahua fad that most likely sent hundred of dogs back to the shelter or worse, kennel, when unsuspecting owners weren’t as thrilled when their dog didn’t appear as cute because it never asked for Mexican in Spanish.
