Russell Brand To Have Hot, Veggie Date With Lisa Simpson?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, March 24th, 2009 in Actors, Comedians, Pop Culture.

Russell Brand Signs Copies Of Russell Brand: My Booky Wook

Executive producers of The Simpsons, James L Brooks and Al Jean, would like to write comedian and actor Russell Brand in the cartoon show.

Al Jean said Brand was “very funny”, and added, “I would definitely be interested in writing an episode around him.”

In addition to Brand, Brooks and Jean want President Obama too.

We’re thinking Brand could have a date with Lisa Simpson.

After all, they both follow the same diet, and Brand wouldn’t be the first vegetarian celebrity Lisa meets on the show while dodging Homer’s love for lamb chops.

It was the help of Paul and Linda McCartney that helped Lisa maintain her veggie lifestyle in carnivorous loving Springfield.

It’s high time Lisa found herself a veggie mate. We just can’t picture her having dinner every evening with Milhouse.

MTV Cannes Party 2003

Not long ago, we brought you the news that MTV would be airing a series of pro-vegetarian ads sponsored by animal rights group Compassion Over Killing (COK).

The group started airing such ads back in 2004, and recently launched their 2009 campaign, which feature the gruesome, behind the scenes look at factory farms.

So how has it been going?

For the most part, good, according to Erica Meier, executive director of COK, who was recently interviewed by QSR magazine. A few highlights from the interview:

Why air them almost exclusively on MTV?
Studies have shown that teen and young-adult audiences are most receptive to a message of vegetarian eating. They’re more willing to explore new foods and change their diets.

Why do the commercials focus so heavily on graphic images of animal cruelty?
Since most people will never visit a factory farm, and since the industry attempts to keep a lot of these practices well hidden behind closed doors, we are striving to bring the factory farms to the audiences to show them that this is the reality of where our food is coming from.

Hooray for Compassion Over Killing for reaching out to the younger crowd. And sure, the Jonas Brothers are cute and all, but you really need a break from them every once in awhile.

Visit QSR magazine for the entire interview.

Bluewater Comic Gals Bare All In Anti-Fur Ad

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, March 9th, 2009 in Fur, Misc Artists and Performers, Pop Culture.

petaadfinal1

Is PETA running out of famous ladies to take their clothes off? Now, comic book characters are being recruited.

A geek’s dream come true, the women of Bluewater Comics have volunteered to bare all against the fur industry.

You might be familiar with Bluewater comics for their sequels to some of Hollywood mythology like The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, Clash of the Titans, and Jason and the Argonauts or their monthly 10th Muse books.

Characters featured here are Emma Sonnet from 10th Muse, Diana Moore of JudoGirl, Scarlet of VSS: Nemesis Rising, and Isis from the Legend of Isis.

Oh, if only mom knew the comics her son read in this day and age. And she was only worried about dirty magazines under the bed.

MTV: Video Did Not Kill The Vegetarian Star

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, February 23rd, 2009 in Animal Issues, Misc Artists and Performers, Pop Culture.

MTV Cannes Party 2003

MTV will be showing a series of pro-vegetarian commercials running over the next five weeks.

The ads will give a behind the scenes view of what goes on in factory farms with the TryVeg.com web address displayed on the screen for those who want more information.

According to Vegan.com, this release was made by Compassion Over Killing member Erica Meier:

“Our 2009 MTV Pro-Veg Ad campaign launches tonight: viewers around the country will see, perhaps for their first time, a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the cruel world of factory farming—and they’ll be further directed to visit our website TryVeg.com for more information.”

MTV is becoming more known for its skits and shows than music, so who knows where this initial vegetarian campaign might lead to. We’re thinking a “30 Days of Veg” for the hardcore steak eater might make for some interesting Reality TV.

Cindy Guyer, Romance Novel Model, Prefers Beefcake In The Bedroom

Jamie Foxx's Album Launch And Birthday Celebration

If vegetarians do have better sex, as claimed by PETA’s rejected Super Bowl ad, then hot romance novel model Cindy Guyer is living proof.

She has appeared on the cover of steamy books like Hostage Heart, The Outlaw Viking and Deliciously Wicked.

Although Cindy is the picture of romance for others, the vegetarian once dubbed as the “female fabio” still hasn’t found the love of her life, but has been romantically linked to Corey Haim in the past. Her divorce to well known construction executive Andrew Catapano is also in the making.

The super sexy cover girl was recently featured in the New York Post  for the decor of her apartment, an 1,800-square-foot, two-bedroom, 2.5 bathroom pad on the city’s Upper East Side worth $2.5 million.

But is Minnie Mouse cage-free?

Disney has come up with its own brand of eggs. All your favorite cartoons from classic Mickey to Cars characters that will ultimately be indiscernible once crushed against the side of the stove top before frying appear on the eggs that are hormone and anti-biotic free.

Good to know at least Disney is using products from chickens who weren’t on steroids, but it’s not sure whether they’re from cage free animals. Or if the dyes contain any animal derivatives.

Hopefully, they were free-range and went on all the magic carpet rides with Aladdin they desired.

The cute marketing idea that probably comes with an extra price tag Ebeneezer Scrooge wouldn’t be interested in will have children dragging their parents to the dairy section of the grocery store, so let’s hope Minnie’s products are as egg-thical as they possibly can be.

Vegetarians Have Better Sex, Super Bowl Fans Won’t Know

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, January 27th, 2009 in Pop Culture, Videos.

‘Veggie Love’: PETA’s Banned Super Bowl Ad
PETA is claiming that vegetarians have better sex and want to spread the news. But football fans will have to get this information elsewhere.

Their ad was rejected by NBC for the Super Bowl because it was deemed too sexy.

Some reasons included, “rubbing pelvic region with pumpkin,” a woman “screwing herself with broccoli.”

Wow! That is softcore veggie porn.

If PETA would cut some additional clips from the scene, it might be more suitable, according to NBC officials:

licking pumpkin

touching her breast with her hand while eating broccoli

pumpkin from behind between legs

rubbing pelvic region with pumpkin

screwing herself with broccoli (fuzzy)

asparagus on her lap appearing as if it is ready to be inserted into vagina

licking eggplant

rubbing asparagus on breast

Sounds like if PETA makes all those edits, they’d only have 2 seconds of video left. The group is well known for its provocative attempts to promote vegetarianism and some say it only backfires as it turns people off to see woman treated as…well, meat.

PETA said the list made them blush. We’re just giggling like junior high kids that executives said “screw” in correspondence.

Watch the video and you call the shots. Is it too much for drunken, testosterone filled Super Bowl fans to endure?

Sorry Apu, 7-Eleven More Veggie Friendly Than Kwik-E-Mart

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, January 13th, 2009 in Actors, Food & Drink, Pop Culture.

Fictional Kwik-E-Mart Comes To Life Ahead Of 'Simpsons' Movie

Apu, the Kwik-E-Mart owner on the Simpsons, may sell tofu dogs in his store, but it’s still not enough to get his shop put on the Proggy Awards list of best convenience stores by PETA that are vegetarian friendly.

7-Elevens in Philadelphia will satisfy all your gas station buffet desires with veggie sandwiches- seitan steak, falafel, faux chicken, and tofu-egg. The stores also offer a variety of salads.

“While it is increasingly simple to find vegetarian offerings at many stores and restaurants, 7-Eleven is making it even easier for conscientious consumers to grab a bite on the go,” stated on PETA’s website.

View the list for the rest of the winners in the awards, including congressman Dennis Kucinich.
