Actor Ernest Borgnine has the secret to living into your nineties.

Twice a day you can bet he’s beating the meat or choking the chicken, but this vegetarian isn’t tenderizing steak or being cruel to animals. Borgnine says the secret to staying healthy is staying away from meat and masturbating.

Borgnine told WENN, “I answered that question one time on Fox News. This fella kept bothering me all morning: ‘What do you do to keep yourself so worked up?’ Finally, I got sick and got tired and I forgot that I was miked. I reached over and replied, ‘I masturbate a lot!'”

“I also gave up meat about 35 years ago.”

Does Borgnine really have the secret to living a long, disease-free life? We already know a vegetarian diet is good for beating the main nasties in health like cancer, diabetes, high blood pressure and heart disease. But should masturbation be on the doctor’s recommendation list for wellness? Turns out beating the meat but not eating it has fantastic benefits for men and women.

Bob Harper Gives PSA For Broccoli (Video)

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, October 13th, 2010 in Food & Drink, Nutrition-Health-Fitness, Videos.

During this week’s episode of The Biggest Loser, trainer Bob Harper‘s trainer tip was to consume broccoli! Practicing what he preaches, Harper fed the contestants chopped broccoli with pine nuts this week as well.

“Whether it’s steamed, baked or even over a salad,” Harper says. “A little broccoli goes a long way.”

Broccoli has been hailed as the champion vegetable by researchers, citing it has more health benefits, contains more nutrients and is a strong potential cancer fighter.

Broccoli is also an all-in-one Vitamin D supplement. To benefit from Vitamin D, one also needs Vitamin K and Vitamin A to keep Vitamin D metabolism functioning properly.  Broccoli naturally contains a good combination of K and A (through beta-carotene) and may be a good food to consume when trying to rebuild D stores.

“I don’t miss any of the foods I ate before becoming vegan. At first I would crave certain things, but as my body became more and more accustomed to getting whole food, plant-based fuel, I stopped wanting to eat unhealthy foods. In fact, something I really appreciate about my diet now is that I don’t have cravings for any specific foods.”

As reported earlier, this week’s episode of The Biggest Loser featured Bob Harper taking some contestants back to his home and serving them vegan food.

As always, Bob gives some tips for creating a healthier kitchen, including staying away from processed foods.

Harper insists he doesn’t keep a lot of food in the house, because food that will store longer means more processed ingredients. It’s a safe bet he’s not harboring a McDonald’s burger that will not decompose after six months.

“I think the food you should have in your house should have a shelf life of two weeks,” Harper said.

The contestants enjoyed a completely vegan meal of roasted wild mushroom with shaved fennel salad, an heirloom tomato and basil leaf salad, chopped broccoli with pine nuts, roasted sweet corn and roasted cauliflower.

Watch the clip below to hear the contestants’ reaction to their first vegan meal.

Herschel Walker, former Heisman Trophy winner who’s decided to pursue a career in Mixed Martial Arts at the age of almost 50. A vegetarian, Walker told CNN he trains for 6-7 hours a day, waking up at 5:30 AM to do 750 to 1,500 push-ups and about 2,000 sit-ups.

We really don’t need as much protein as some meat eaters will try to convince us. Experts recommend about 0.8 grams of protein per 2.2 lbs. of body weight for men and women. And too much protein may put you at risk of disorders of the kidney, liver and/or osteoporosis.

Walker is training for his second MMA fight, which is scheduled to take place December 4th. Watch the video below to hear him discuss his new sport.

Taking a risk with a vegetarian or vegan dish on a mainstream reality TV cooking competition isn’t as frightful as it used to be. Chefs are smarter, judges are open and almost no one faints to hear there’s no four or two legged flesh as the main centerpiece.

On a recent The Next Iron Chef, the competitors were given the task of turning classic diner food into something head turning (but not stomach turning). Chef Maneet Chauhan didn’t just give burgers a twist, she made the veggie burger a classic! Although the judges weren’t thrilled with the patty, Chauhan’s okra and squash blossom french fries were a hit.
