In Defense of Food author Michael Pollan is outspoken improving health through better food.

He believes in less fast food, cooking at home more often, and everything in moderation.

He does not, however, believe in a vegan diet.

From isthmus.com:

That’s a very similar argument to what Karen Dawn makes, that if you’re too hardcore about a vegan diet you lose people.
“That’s right. I don’t want people to lose track of the fact that pleasure is a very important part of this, and being neurotic about eating is not good for your health. You know, there’s a great M.F.K. Fisher quote: “All things in moderation, including moderation.” I think she’s got the right idea.”

Granted, not everyone is gung ho about cutting all animal products from their lives.

But eating vegan isn’t pleasurable? Vegans are neurotic?

Pft!

Pollan’s starting to sound like Giles Coren.

Vogues 1 Year Anniversary Party For 3.1 Phillip Lims LA Store - Inside

Singer Eve is in need of a little schooling when it comes to eating vegetarian.

She was recently at the Blush Boutique Nightclub at the Wynn in Las Vegas when she asked for something vegetarian.

Like chicken fingers.

A source told the New York Post:

“She was in the VIP area and got hungry, so she asked if room service could be ordered to the club. They agreed to help her out, but when they took her order, she said she wanted ’something vegetarian, like grilled cheese or chicken fingers.’ The staff was pretty confused about it.”

The staff’s not the only one.

Perhaps Eve’s just trying to eat better and is cutting back on red meat.

Quite the chickentarian.

And they say vegetarians are hard to figure out because we ask so many strange questions about the menu. Ha!

Premiere Of Summit Entertainments Premiere Of Sorority Row - Arrivals

A few days ago we told you that Sorority Row, the new flick Rumer Willis is starring in, was filmed in an actual slaughterhouse and the whole experience creeped Rumer out.

Apparently, Rumer recovers quickly and she doesn’t think about the “drains on the floor” and “weird hooks on the ceiling” when grabbing a bite to eat.

From a recent Tweet:

“Really excited about Letterman tonight…and then I’m off to Chicago. I heard about some great burger places.”

Arrgh!

Don’t know about you, but spending time in a slaughterhouse is enough to make us cross the street when approaching Burger “Paradise.”

Aerosmith Joe Perry: Hunter Out Of Touch With Reality

24th Annual Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame Induction Ceremony - Press Room

Aerosmith‘s guitarist and vocalist Joe Perry thinks he’s quite the conservationist, according to an interview with Outdoor Living magazine.

Perry was quoted as saying:

“I don’t shoot anything that I don’t eat. Hunters are conservationists and their heads are in the right place. … (Hunting) really gives you a great opportunity to keep in touch with reality.”

Oh, Joe. How out of touch with reality you are!

Granted, hunting your food is less taxing on the environment than raising cattle which wastes precious resources of water and land that could be put to better use growing crops.

But Joe, unless you wear a loincloth (hubba, hubba? eh…maybe not so much), these aren’t the days where man (or a beefy Xena Warrior Princess type woman) chases after the beast before dinner time.

Try hunting down some vital wheat gluten flour at the grocery and whipping up a “taste like meat” seitan dish.

Put the rifle down, Joe.

Keeping the loincloth on is totally optional.

Madonna 110 Pound Meat Journey In Tel Aviv

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, September 4th, 2009 in Female Singers, Not So Vegetarian.

Madonna in concert in Tel Aviv

Madonna stopped by Tel Aviv recently to perform the last in the concert series for her Sticky and Sweet tour.

After Madge’s plane landed, her crew took no time at all hunting down food for the Material Girl and her dance troupe.

And when we say “hunt,” we almost mean that literally.

From wnd.com:

“A source at the hotel kitchen where Madonna’s food is being prepared told WND the menu for the singer and her crew today included about 110 pounds of meat, including rib-eye and T-bone steaks, as well as beef filet. Also, fish and poultry were on hand for dinner.”

One hundred ten pounds of meat? Plus, fish and poultry on the side?

We don’t even want to begin to count how many animals that makes.

Surely, Madge and her crew could get their stage energy from whole grain pasta, nuts, legumes, and other plant based proteins.

A very sticky and bittersweet ending to her tour.

One half of the delicious looking Good Charlotte twins, Joel Madden, recently engaged in some very dirty Twitter talk!

He corresponded with a fellow follower about Hamburger Helper and Tuna, stating it was one of his favorites!

But what about his vegetarianism?

Read the dialogue for yourself.

@JoelMadden “I just made some mean hamburger helper with my secret add on’s – wait grown ups can still eat hamburger helper right?”

@nerandhas “Hamburger and tuna helper are some of my favs, i plan on passing them on to my children.”

Gasp!

Not only is he saying that he likes the stuff, but he wants his kids to pick up on the bad habit?

Sure hope that Hamburger helper is made with Boca crumbles!

HOLLAND V ENGLAND, INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY

Strange events occur in the Beckham’s kitchen.

Victoria Beckham, has claimed to be a vegetarian who still cooks meat for her husband and kids.

“The only thing I can cook really is mince meat, which is ironic because I’m a vegetarian.”

Now, we’re learning that David is helping with the domestic chores as well-which include making one of Victoria’s favorite dishes of prawns.

According to splashnewsonline.celebuzz.com, David says:

“My signature dish for Victoria is grilled prawns or lobster and fresh vegetables.”

Unless Mrs. Posh Spice likes to look at the dead grilled prawns while eating her meatless pasta, she ain’t exactly vegetarian.

And after learning of all the half-assed vegetarian celebrities, we have little hope Victoria munches on Vegan King Prawns.

Sigh…

Another star who needs a vocabulary lesson.

It’s pescatarian, Victoria.

Julie And Julia Screening At The Paley Center For Media

Planning to see the blockbuster hit Julie & Julia?

Before you go, you should know, when it came to vegetarians, Julia Child was a little…well, just read this quote from a 1999 interview with PEOPLE magazine.

“Personally, I don’t think pure vegetarianism is a healthy lifestyle. It’s more fear of food—that whole thing that red meat is bad for you. And then there are people who don’t eat meat because it’s against their morals. Well, there’s nothing you can do with people like that. I’ve often wondered to myself: Does a vegetarian look forward to dinner, ever? “”

Well, then…we suppose a vegetarian never looked forward to any dinner Julia Child made.
