There were at least two publicly acknowledging vegans in the 2010 Miss USA pageant.

Neither won, but the fact that two of the ladies were open about their diet and lifestyle to the public still made a good impact on the movement.

MacKenzie Green, who represented as Miss District of Columbia, is a University of Miami senior that loves dining at Miami’s Lifefood Gourmet between her classes for her double major of sports administration and broadcast journalism.

“I love, love, love, love, love, love Lifefood Gourmet,” Green told NBC Miami. “It is an amazing place. It’s all raw vegan, and it’s right off of Calle Ocho. I love the raw vegan pizza. You never feel bad when all you’re eating is nuts, grains, avocado and diced tomatoes.”

“It’s my primo go-to place.”

Guess it’s safe to say Lifefood Gourmet is an option way before the dining hall or student commons.

For good old fashioned college junk food without the freshman 15, opt for the Mediterranean nachos, tortilla chips with Brazil Nut Hummus, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, cilantro, parsley, olives and onions.

Larry Birkhead, the partner of the late Anna Nicole Smith and father of their daughter, Dannielynn, is auctioning off Anna Nicole’s items to raise money for Dannielynn and Anna Nicole’s charity created to help underprivileged children, the Anna Nicole and Daniel Wayne Smith foundation.

One exception to the charity and Birkhead’s daughter is the dress worn by Anna Nicole for a PETA anti-fur ad, the proceeds of which will go to the animal rights organization, according to Reuters.

Anna Nicole starred in several ads for the organization, one which included the “Gentlemen Prefer Fur-Free Blondes,”  that cited an article from Marie Claire stating 8 out of 10 men are turned off by women wearing fur.

Miss New York USA Davina Reeves will have some competition for the Miss USA pageant that will crown the winner later this month if there’s a category of best vegan recipe.

MacKenzie Green, Miss District of Columbia USA, also stays away from meat and dairy, as she wrote in the bio of her Twitter page.

“I’m Miss DC USA 2010, a vegan, an aspiring sports reporter and a lot more…stay tuned for what’s to come.”

Green has been taking to Twitter to share her diet preference, making Tweets that are anti-cheese, anti-egg and making suggestions for vegetable tempura.

"Earthlings" Barbi Twins

"Earthlings" Barbi Twins

The Barbi Twins appear on the new poster for the documentary Earthlings, which examines human dependence on animals for food, fashion, entertainment and more.

The twins, Shane and Sia, are U.S. spokespersons for the film which is set for international release and DVD distribution worldwide in August.

The poster plays on the Got Milk? campaigns with a vegan twist.

According to Go Veg, although a cow’s natural lifespan is about 25 years old, a dairy cow is usually sent to slaughter after 5 years once she can no longer produce milk.

Male cows get less life, as they are taken away from their mothers immediately and fed a diet low in nutrients that will result in the light flesh color found in veal.

Is this why Shane and Sia feel milk is murder?

The former Playboy magazine cover girls have a history of activism for animal rights, including a facebook page against the Canadian Seal Hunt.

RAFW S/S 2010/11 - Nookie Catwalk

Louise Van De Vorst made a creative scene at Australian Fashion Week on Wednesday when she arrived in a Volcano dress by designers Romance Was Born.

Van De Vorst is a successful model who is branching out and starting her own clothing line.

This vegan, much like her boyfriend, Silverchair’s front man Daniel Johns, is quite ethical in her food and fashion, and won’t be putting any real fur on the catwalk.

“With myself I do use fake fur and it’s really important to do that kind of stuff,” she said.

With the rise in real fur at so many fashion weeks during the past few months, Van De Vorst’s ethics are a refreshing change.
