Michael Jackson’s Bubbles The Chimp Living Happily Ever After

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, July 10th, 2009 in Animal Issues, Male Singers, Videos.

Whatever happened to Bubbles the Chimp?

No, this isn’t a Child Stars of the 80s episode, it’s just a report on Michael Jackson’s beloved pet chimp, Bubbles.

Bubbles is living large at the Florida sanctuary, Center For Great Apes, getting the star treatment of cucumbers and banannas delivered to him daily as he schmoozes with 14 orangutans and 27 other chimps.

The Center For Great Apes was founded in 1993, by Patti Ragan, to provide “a permanent sanctuary for orangutans and chimpanzees who have been retired from the entertainment industry, from research, or who are no longer wanted as pets.”

Bubbles became a little aggressive as he grew older (you know how Hollywood divas are) and Michael was forced to give him up.

Sadly, many people like Jackson don’t realize chimps are wild animals and are not suitable for living among humans. Fortunately, the Bubbles story ended happily, unlike the one with Travis the chimp.

Watch the video to see Bubbles perform some sort of slicky slide maneuver around his cage.

Gabe Saporta, vegetarian and frontman for the band Cobra Starship, has a lifesize cardboard cut-out of himself on the Vans Warp Tour.

It’s located under the PETA tent, and will be present at every performance on the entire tour.

Cardboard Gabe is sporting a “Glamour Kills” t-shirt, which highlights the cruelty of animal testing in cosmetics.

Which is ironic, considering Gabe’s never been the “guyliner” type. We’re thinking it’s a more appropriate shirt for oh, let’s say, Davey Havok.

But it’s the message that counts.

Incidentally, do you know if your lipstick, lotion, or other makeup accessory is cruelty-free? Because it would be horrible to do an Ellen DeGeneres move and say you’re a vegetarian or vegan while fronting Cover Girl.

Check out leapbunny.org and find out. The “leaping bunny” can be found on all products where no new animal testing has been used in any phase of the product for the company, its laboratories, or its suppliers.

You will probably never attend a memorial service where the guests dress like this.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals made an appearance at Michael Jackson’s memorial service and took the opportunity to promote vegetarianism with a sign that read, “Go Vegetarian For The Man In The Mirror.”

The pop star was vegetarian, and the group is currently trying to get permission to use a song he sang for a movie, “Ben,” to educate people on the conditions of rodents in research laboratories.

“Ben” features Michael singing about a boy’s love for his pet rat.

Paul McCartney Chooses DoNUT Over DoNAIR

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, July 7th, 2009 in Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers, Recipes.

Sir Paul McCartney spotted in London

Paul McCartney had just finished up a chat with radio host Bobby Mac of Q104 in Halifax, Nova Scotia when Bobby recommended Paul check out some of the local food, including the donairs.

Donairs? Huh?

Donairs are delicacies prevalent on the Canadian East Coast. Donairs are to Halifax what Philly Cheesesteak is to Philadelphia.

There’s just one problem. Donairs are full of spicy beef.

“It’s got a lot of meat? Well, I’m not going to eat it then,” Paul said. “Save me a doNUT.”

Of course every optimistic vegetarian and vegan always tries their hand at plantifying any carnivorous dish and donairs shouldn’t be the exception.

Here’s a recipe for vegan donairs using Texturized Vegetable Protein.

Cause donuts really aren’t good substitutes for meals, you know?

Michael Jackson’s Last Vegetarian Meals Revealed

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, July 3rd, 2009 in Food & Drink, Male Singers.

MICHAEL JACKSON DEATH

AEG promoter Randy Phillips has revealed some of the last meals Michael Jackson ate while rehearsing for what would have been 50 sold out concert performances.

Apparently the vegetarian Jackson was so focused, he would forget to eat and Phillips and other members of the crew had to force him to.

“He used to forget to eat because he was so focused and Kenny Ortega and I used to cut up his food and physically feed him,” the UK Mirror quoted Phillips as saying.

Phillips said some of Jackson’s favorite dishes were vegetarian lasagna, steamed broccoli, nut loaf or tofu with chili sauce.

Fred Mascherino, ex Taking Back Sunday guitarist and singer who went on to form the band The Color Fred, is so green he’s “phat” off oil!

Vegan Fred has a car that runs on vegetable oil he gets from a Chinese restaurant. Luckily, they don’t fry in lard, otherwise raising the animal who’s fat will eventually run the car kinda cancels out any eco-friendliness.

Using our own fat? Well, that might reduce at least somebody’s footprint-literally.

“Being vegan is about the best thing a person can do to be “green,” Fred said. “Using less, buying less and eating less is the idea but even just eating a little less meat makes a difference.”

The next obvious question is how Fred pays for his oil. It would be COOL to walk into China Express and say, “I’ll take what I ate this week in fuel.”

Some sources even recommend, “Develop a relationship with the manager or owner of local establishments. Tell him or her that you’re interested in collecting their waste vegetable oil. Offer to do it for free.”

We smell and taste an All You Can Eat Oil Club program forming at businesses soon.
