**RESTRICTIONS APPLY** Moby at The Hangover premiere event at Vue cinema in London

Moby will kick off a set of concerts in Europe next month in efforts to raise climate change awareness in young people.

In a joint deal with MTV, the concerts are part of the European Commission’s “Play to stop – Europe for climate” campaign.

Moby will perform in Stockholm on August 20, with other musicians taking the stages in Budapest and Copenhagen during the following weeks.

Looks like the European Commission and MTV chose the right man for the job. Who better to represent climate change awareness than longtime vegan Moby?

There’s no greater way to reduce your impact on the planet than to choose a plant based diet, which can reduce livestock emissions, and clear land that would normally be used to feed farm animals for people.

The musician has also been active in supporting Paul McCartney’s Meat Free Monday campaign, aimed at getting people to just reduce their meat consumption by going vegetarian one day a week.

Sure hope he plasters a “Go Veg” sign on his stage set.

Ex-Beatle Paul McCartney rocks up a storm for the Late Show With David Lettermen in New York

Any entrepreneur or developer knows getting a successful product out is more than just putting in eight hours a day.

There are often late nights, weekends, and pounds of bacon to shove down your throat regularly.

Neil Gillis, former managing director of Linda McCartney foods, has told the UK Guardian just how dedicated Paul McCartney was to improving the vegetarian food range of his late wife.

“He took over after Linda died and it was very helpful, he was very interested in the products, like when we developed vegetarian bacon – he ate it for breakfast everyday so was keen to get it right.”

Now veggie bacon is delish and all, but everyday for breakfast? That’s dedication!

No Vegan Version Of Michael Jackson Butter Sculpture On The Ballot

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, July 16th, 2009 in Male Singers.

Michael Jackson wax unveiled at Madame Tussauds in London

Officials at the Iowa State Fair are giving people a chance to vote online to determine if the fair will feature a butter sculpture of the late King of Pop, Michael Jackson.

The sculptures are a regular part of the fair and celebrate various iconic people and events.

This year, to celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 11 moon mission and Neil Armstrong’s walk on the moon, the 2009 butter sculpture “masterpiece” (our word, not theirs), will feature an astronaut, an American Flag, and depending on the public vote, Michael Jackson in recognition for his “moonwalk”.

People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) has suggested a non-dairy version of the butter sculpture, made with Earth Balance vegan butter instead.

Same buttery taste, minus cholesterol and cramped cows on dairy farms? Yum, that’s lickable!

But given the fact the butter sculptures are a way to celebrate the dairy industry at the fair and historically speaking, were started to promote the Beatrice Creamery Company, a Nebraska dairy that once dominated the Midwest before the big boys at Con Agra took over, it’s unlikely PETA or any vegans will get their wish.

Voting is still taking place online today and the results will be made public on July 17.

Michael Jackson Ate So Many Carrots, His Skin Turned Orange

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, July 15th, 2009 in Male Singers.

2006 MTV Video Music Awards Japan - Arrivals

A lot of talk took place about Michael Jackson’s skin color, which gradually lightened over the years due to a condition he had known as vitiligo.

But not much was said about MJ turning orange!

Michael’s brother Tito says at one time Michael ate so many carrots, his skin turned orange.

Yep, a little condition known as Carotenemia happens when you ingest too many carotene containing vegetables like carrots and blood levels of carotene become elevated, making you look like, well, a carrot.

So how much do you have to eat to get that “carotene” glow?

We couldn’t find an exact answer, but it probably depends on body weight and the rest of your diet.

One seven incher (ahem, a carrot that is) contains 2025 RE of vitamin A, which is 203% of your Daily Value, according to dietitian.com. So you can imagine what munching on several carrots a day or eating a entire bag might do. One pound of carrots has 1276% of your RDA for vitamin A.

Since carrots contain so much vitamin A, you should go easy on them anyway and seek help if you’re a carrot-holic. Vitamin A is fat soluble, and unlike water soluble vitamins like C, your body can’t get rid of the excess just by tinkling, or urinating for you hard core “please use proper medical terminology” fans.

Jason Mraz Does Vitamineral Green For Breakfast

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, July 11th, 2009 in Business, Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Jason Mraz performs at Le Zenith, Paris

Vegan singer and musician Jason Mraz has recently revealed on his blog what he consumes for the most important meal of the day.

“The secret to a great day is how you start your day. And for the past year and a half I’ve avoided eating a heavy traditional breakfast. Instead, I merrily jumpstart my day with the ever-so-awesome Vitamineral Green from Healthforce Nutritionals”

“One heaping scoop of this stuff in the morning provides an insane amount of goodness for the body. The powdered greens (from dehydrated plants and algae among other things) taken by itself is enough to live on. It goes straight to the blood and straight to the brain and stays with you all day. I stir mine every morning with ONE-Brand Coconut Water, but I prefer to blend it also with some Flax Oil, Freelife Goji Juice, Avocados, Maca Spice (the Peruvian Viagra) and a few dates. I even do Cayenne pepper on mornings that I want something savory. The flavor options are unlimited and there’s no way you can overdose on the stuff.”

“Think about it for a second, would you rather start your day with something fattening and/or sugary that ends up around your waist or deep in your ass, or would you rather feel light and energized with a glow that people can recognize? Remember, you are what you eat.”

Healtforce Nutritionals is a 100% gluten-free product company that is probably anointing Jason’s feet with oil now that they’ve gotten such a big plug.

Ruben Studdard Shows All Vegs Don’t Have To Be Skinny

Written by Vegetarian Star on Saturday, July 11th, 2009 in Male Singers.

Radio Ones 25th Anniversary Awards Gala

The word is that American Idol season 2 winner Ruben Studdard is back on the veg wagon, after gossip that he had fallen off.

According to Ruben, he’s feeling better than ever and in great health, despite not having a 32 inch waistline.

“I am a vegetarian now and I think that’s the one thing that saved me from being over the top. I also work out every day and have a trainer on the road with me. I saw pictures of myself at the beginning of ‘Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Ruben Studdard CD and I look like a whole other person now. I’m down like five or six pants sizes. I’ve been a vegetarian for about two and a half years now. I probably miss fried chicken the most. I feel better. You can’t pay for the way you feel after you start. I’m not saying that people who eat meat don’t feel great because I’m sure they do, but it works for me. I don’t want people that sell meat to be knocking on my door saying, ‘You’re still fat. You ain’t lost that much weight.'”

Hey, who said going veg was about going thin?

Are you a “pleasantly plump” or “thick” veg who still has low cholesterol and a kick ass resting heart rate? Did dropping the hot dog bring you health benefits, even if it didn’t bring you six pack abs or a size 2 dress?

Should More Vegs Adopt The Mars Volta Straight Edge Lifestyle?

Written by Vegetarian Star on Friday, July 10th, 2009 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Omar Rodriguez-Lopez of The Mars Volta used to be a hard core partyer like the rest of his bandmates.

Then, when one ex member, Jeremy Ward, died of an overdose of drugs in 2003, Omar and the rest of Mars Volta were scared into straight edge vegans who won’t even drink coffee.

Now, you don’t have to be a coffee abstainer to be a vegan or a vegetarian. You can still have your beer.

But could the vegetarian and vegan community benefit its  members from promoting a substance free lifestyle that uses even legal substances sparingly?

The late River Phoenix was known as a hippie, easy go lucky vegan. But behind his clean diet was a drug habit that led to his death.

There is speculation that the late King of Pop Michael Jackson allegedly had problems with narcotics and prescription drugs, and that may have contributed to his death.

Vegans may be stereotyped as pot smoking people, but is it time for that to change? Should the abstinence of drugs and alcohol and the avoidance of heavy medications even if they are legal be pushed as much as not buying leather?
