Goldfinger’s John Feldmann Holds Lobster Liberation Parties

Written by Vegetarian Star on Wednesday, October 8th, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

goldfinger_live_2006 John Feldmann, also known as “Feldy,” of the band, Goldfinger, is an outspoken vegan and animal rights activist. In fact, he may have been too outspoken for the FBI once, as they raided his home on suspicions of his role with an incident involving Animal Liberation Front, an animal rights group known for making statements in a radical fashion. He later sued for them putting his home in disarray and snatching his possessions and won.

When he throws parties, they’re big. To the sum of 110 guest or more. Did we forget to mention most of the guests are lobsters?

“We’ve done a couple lobster liberations; one in Hawaii, two in Boston, and one in Maine. I saw a tank of lobsters and I said, “I could do something about this right now.” We took all the lobsters and put them back in the ocean. Because of shock, I’m sure a lot of them died. Even if only one or two of them lived, it’s a better chance of survival than in the tank at the grocery store. I saw the lobsters in there and what could I do?”

Read more about his “F*** Ted Nugent”, song, bashing Jennifer Lopez’s furry eyelashes, and his response on people thinking Goldfinger is a militant animal rights activist band.

Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump Stiffed On Veggie Options

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, October 7th, 2008 in Bands, Male Musicians, Male Singers.

He should have just brought a cooler and made the shake Andy Hurley recommends.

Fall Out Boys Pete Wentz and Patrick Stump decided to have lunch with editor-in-chief of Blender magazine Joe Levy. It took them a long time to make up their minds, but in the end, they chose Keens Steakhouse where Stump ended up getting completely cheated on a good meal. He’s vegetarian so he had to eat a salad.

Stump didn’t mention it before the two grabbed some grub. Maybe he didn’t want to sound like a pain. Here’s the thing, though. They all ate salads. There have been rumors of Wentz being an on again off again vegetarian, but it doesn’t appear that Levy is. Maybe they were trying to be polite?

One thing’s certain: Out of all the places in New York to eat, there were definitely better options where both carnivores and a veg rocker could agree upon than a steakhouse serving rabbit leaves.

Looks like everyone, including Stump, got stiffed!

Fall Out Boy’s Andy Hurley’s Recipe For Soy Protein Shake

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, October 6th, 2008 in Food & Drink, Male Musicians, Recipes.

So Andy Hurley gave Rolling Stone the secrets to a great vegetarian protein shake. But it still might be kind of hard to steal this recipe as he’s kind of vague about the formula:

“About this much vanilla soy milk, up to here with chocolate soy milk, then a scoop of peanut butter, some liquid amino acids to complete the protein.”

Maybe hard to follow, but sure sounds like a winner!

Republican Steak To Democratic Seitan: Nancy Shevell’s 180

Written by Vegetarian Star on Monday, October 6th, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Nancy Shevell, Paul McCartney's flame at work in Manhattan

Love makes you do a lot of things. Tommy Lee tried to do tofu for Pam, but in the end, he couldn’t control his roving eyes for burgers.

The latest carnivore to be struck by the herbivore love bug is Nancy Shevell, girlfriend of Paul McCartney. Apparently, she is trying to change a few of her ways to make him happier, including abstaining from meat and toning down her “super Republican views.”

A known lover of crocodile-skin bags, she reportedly lived off avocado sandwiches and tomato soup while traveling with Paul and loves to order off the veggie menu now.

Awesome for Shevell. Wonder what her favorite non-meat dish is? One thing is for sure: She’s a smart gal who won’t let another woman, like Mary the little lamb, get in the way of her and her man.

Weird Al Vegetarian: Yankovic Sings “Chicken Pot Pie”

Written by Vegetarian Star on Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 in Male Musicians, Male Singers.

Sony/BMG Grammy Party - Arrivals

Weird Al Yankovic is a vegetarian. No, really. He definitely makes tofu very white and nerdy.

The performer who is known for his parodies was once asked by Paul McCartney when he was going to make fun of him. That’s right. McCartney wondered when one of his songs would be remade by Yankovic.

A little later, Yankovic, a vegetarian, asked Paul for permission to use the song, “Live and Let Die,” for a song called, “Chicken Pot Pie.” Paul said no, because it dealt with eating meat, but Yankovic used it anyway because apparently he didn’t need Paul’s permission after all, he was just trying to be nice.

When we were young, Bernie’s Deli was down the block
(Ooh ooh ooh ooh)
He made a great liver pate
(You know he did, you know he did, you know he did)
But if there’s one thing in this world that I like better
Than a corned beef on rye

It’s Chicken Pot Pie
Chicken Pot Pie

[chorus of chicken-cluck imitations]

“Chicken Pot Pie,” by the strange man who turned vegan after a fan gave him the book, “Diet For A New America,” by John Robbins.

Moby, Tobey Maguire Give Props To Prop 2

YES! on Prop 2 Campaign to stop Animal Cruelty Event - Beverly Hills, CA

Several celebrities made an appearance at a fundraiser for Prop 2— a California state ballot measure that would outlaw confining crates and cages used in the factory farming of hens, veal calves and pregnant pigs. The measure is sponsored by the Humane Society of the U.S., Farm Sanctuary and other animal welfare groups.

Moby showed up to perform and Tobey Maguire put his two cents in as well.

“To me, it’s a no-brainer,” Maguire said. “I’m a near-vegan. I eat like a vegan.”

Ellen DeGeneres and her new wife Portia de Rossi were supporters as well, Ellen emphasizing that the move isn’t about taking care of animals, “It’s just making things a little better for them.” If you remember, the two of them provided their wedding guest with a completely vegan feast, including vegan red velvet cake.

Vegetarian Pot Roast, No Kegs For Queen Chancellor Brian May

Written by Vegetarian Star on Tuesday, September 30th, 2008 in Male Musicians.

Brian May Submits His Thesis To Imperial College London

We almost missed it. This month would have marked the 62nd birthday of Queen singer Freddie Mercury, who passed in the early 90s.

You don’t have to be a Queen fan or even old enough to have any memories of the band to recognize songs such as, “We will rock you,” at ball games or “Bohemian Rhapsody,” covers by various musical acts.

While most people think of Freddie as the frontman, guitarist and vegetarian Brian May also had a stake in songwriting, creating the lyrics to “39,” a song mixing space and time travel with science fiction.

“It’s a science fiction story. It’s the story about someone who goes away and leaves his family and… because of the time dilation effect, when you go away, the people on Earth have aged a lot more than he has when he comes home. He’s aged a year and they’ve aged 100 years. So, instead of coming back to his wife, he comes back to his daughter and he can see his wife in his daughter… a strange story.”

May has always had a love for science and not too long ago, went back to school to complete his thesis “A Survey of Radial Velocities in the Zodiacal Dust Cloud” at Liverpool John Moores University. The university was so impressed, they made him a chancellor and now he partakes in serious brainy duties such as graduation ceremonies and giving input on academic faculty positions.

He told NME of his accomplishment:
“It really doesn’t matter how old you are or what stage of your life you are in, it is never, ever too late to start learning. I proved that by completing my PhD, 30 years after I started it. As Chancellor, I hope that my personal experiences will act as an inspiration for others.”

When he was awarded this position, he said he was going to celebrate “with a delicious vegetarian roast and a glass of choice dessert wine”.

Dessert wine, huh? C’mon. You really didn’t expect the chancellor of a university to kick it with a keg, did you?
